If I could only have one pocket knife…..
มุมมอง 5K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I like to collect and carry traditional pocket knives. I have found over the years that the less I like a knife, the more likely I am to actually carry it and use it as intended. High end/ collectible brands are awesome, but have gotten $$$. I have been known to lose knives, chip bone handles, and find pesky rust spots… This is how I ended up with my current carry

Great Eastern Cutlery- Cuban Pen knife
มุมมอง 1.5K11 ปีที่แล้ว
My newest GEC knife- the Cuban Pen. This strikes me as more of a user than a knife to show off, however you could do either. Biggest complaint is the price of $88, somewhere in the high 60s or low 70s is more like it. Big fan of this pattern and i will surely buy more cuban/ cigar frames! Thanks for reading!
Great Eastern Cutlery Knives

These are my first three GEC patterns. Im new to knife reviews so hopefully you all enjoy
My mostly carried pocket knife is a Sheffield made large stockman. It is a very versetile design.
*Should I walk around with an overpriced $400 GEC or the $36 Feebay Find....Hmmms...Gosh what should I do??* 🙄🙄 *This might be the stupidest video I've watched in a long time*
I have been using my bear and sons stockman, like yours but a little bit different color, same size, carbon blades for a little over two years and I really like it. I just sharpen and lube it once in a while and it keeps going. I think you will learn to really like it. Stay safe, cheers. 😊
Nice I would choose the Stockman pattern to but in large like the bigger Case Stockman. I have the GEC Calf Roper it’s a medium stockman
I’m glad to hear that someone else loves the Dixie Stockman!!!
I like your video.🙂
Haven't thought about having just one pocket knife as I have some for different tasks even seasons but I have gotten away from the collecting so ask myself which of these knives would i replace (if possible) if it went missing.
Nothing wrong with sa bear and sons knife. Thank you for sharing.
I have a good size collection but if I could only keep one it would be the Victorinox Farmer
Enjoyed the video. 👍
Excellent, knife story.
Your arguments are sound. The 'one' knife must do everything you want it to do, be cheap to buy and easily replaced, easily sharpened and easily cleaned. In my case that is the Imperial Schrade Sodbuster Junior (Yellow). Slicey enough to cut through 3/4 inch nylon rope in one hit, excellent build quality, fantastically ergonomic in hard and repetitive use, cheap, scrubbed in the washing up bowl without worrying about spalting wood or shrinking bone, capable of shucking an Oyster at a push without developing blade play, a good pruner (develops a recurve over time), pinch opening so you don't have to remove gloves, and..........yellow because the wife hates it 🤣🤣🤣
I would choose a two bladed knife preferably 3.5"-4". Jack knives, Copperheads, Canoes, mini-Trappers, large Pens, maybe a one-bladed lockback. Something that is not to big to pocket but might still carry well in a belt sheath. Either way my preference would probably change after a time as I do get bored with the same features all the time. I did carry one knife for about 20 years but that was before I decided to collect a few more.
Use it! 😂
Gonna have to agree with wood..this knife would be nowhere near my collection
Nahhh that ain’t it
What’s wrong with this knife?
At a guess, probably the price
Rewatching this video. You’ve got some real gems there. Wish you would do some more content. Nice collection you have. Thank you much
Current production USA made Old Timer stockman? When did they go back to being made in the USA?
They did a run of several knives that were made here, though they still are making knives overseas. I think these were within the last 6 months or so
@@Cole45 thanks. I think Bear & Sons produced these for Old Timer.
Old Timer Generational Series - Middleman - 34 OTG
My Papa loved these knives until they moved the factory to china.
Agreed, have not owned a Chinese Old Timer, was very interested to see a USA made knife by them
I can see that your videos are a few years old but they are new to me. Very good presentation. Good speaking voice. Nice calm easy to understand demeanor. Awesome collection of cutlery. Most enjoyable and much appreciated. Thank you. Hope to see some new ones.
I’m carrying a Microtech stitch right now. I had to have it because it was so dang cool…but that thing is OFFENSIVE. I feel self conscious every time it’s opened unless I’m by myself because it’s so ridiculous. (Still love it tho)
Obviously this is an old video but still entertaining. Nice collection that no doubt continues to appreciate in value. I love GEC knives. It is a conundrum though. What I mean is, they are meant to be used but I find myself hesitant to do so because they are so wonderful and have investment value. I can’t see myself ever parting with any but anyhow you know what I mean. Kudos on your explanations and calm speaking voice. Would appreciate a new updated video on your collection. All of us GEC nuts would like to “geek” out on an update. Thank you sir and enjoy your 4 July 2022. ✝️✌🏼
#47 and #72 are by far my favorites....just the perfect size IMHO.
The Gec'73 single blade is probably the Perfect pocket knife,I dont know what would be better, the '72 and '74 are also really good also♥️
Personal opinion. I do not like blade etches.
Great video thanks. Love all GEC knives and the bowie knife looks good. Like my Boker Tree Brand premium knife from Sloligen Germany.
Very well presented, I like how you reviewed the knives in detail.
GEC#47 Viper run is next.
Really enjoyed seeing your GEC collection thank you! Some I recognise, others I don't, a few I have myself. Particularly pleased that you use your knives, as do I - it's what they're made for! I recently took my #23 Pioneer Trapper Liner Lock Beaver Tail fishing - awesome outdoor knife!
What do you use to oil your 1095 blades?
Mineral oil is what I prefer to use, thanks!
Want to sell that 79
GEC with be making a Trapper run in 2020. Stay tune !
Great video! Makes a welcome change from many of the videos of GECs which their owners clearly aren't planning on using for their intended purpose. Like you, I use mine, including the Northfields - it's what they're made for!
Nice. What do you think of the 81 2 blade pattern? Do you still carry those particular few most? I love the calf roper 66. I have one and feel like that size carries best. I like to front pocket carry my knives and the larger ones are super awkward.
I think the 81 is a great pattern, I really like the moose knives. I owned one in red linen for the longest time and sold it with the idea I would replace it with one in a bone handle material. Have yet to make that purchase. If you front carry and prefer the 3.5” of the calf roper it would probably be too big. I always had to let it sit beside my wallet in my back pocket to be comfortable. Of the knives shown in this video all are gone except for the 15 and 73. Those are my go-to carry knives. I regret getting rid of the 53 the most, but you know how that goes. Thanks for watching!
I enjoy your videos very much. They are extremely informative and you do a great job in the presentation. I too love the traditional knives, with a few modern (Spyderco and Benchmade). Thanks for sharing your expertise.
I wish knife companys would stop making spey blades I don't like them at all. Whose castrating animals with a pocket knife now a days.
Spey blades are good slicers in general, and are a continuance of a tradition.
Nice collection
Collecting is a sickness and we will make up any lame excuse, like food preparation to purchase these high end knives ... Good video but we are all very broken toys lol
Doomed!
I just tell my wife that they will increase in value and she can sell them all when I die.
That's the truth!🙂
Awesome knife do u still have the 78
I like blue knives. When it comes to blue knives , GEC is the "Dick Tease !" of American knife makers.
When it comes to most of their knives...
They only made 29 of the ebony 79 work horse knives. I got one too
The backsprings can't sit flush on the 48 pattern because the height of the knife isn't great enough to allow for then to remove enough material off of the tang to allow for flush fitment while maintaining the blades structural integrity.
Must have been dull as hell to push the blade open by the edge.
Get real Bro, you can say Will- am- ett. Willamette Whittler. It's easy. Go ahead, try it. Piece of cake.
May I ask what the blade length is on the main? Can't find it listed anywhere
real nice selection of quality knives. the old Case Stockman pattern is classic. thanks for posting
What kind of knife storage roll do you use? I've built up quite a large knife collection and I've been looking for a good quality roll to keep them in. Thanks! -Jim
BCV Piper Evening! mine is a Hickory Hill knife roll. Cannot recommend it enough. You can usually find them on ebay or on SMKW's website for around $40. Take care!
KnifeReviews60 Good deal! Thanks for the info! I really enjoy your videos. Take care. -Jim
I agree on the blade etching thing. There are many Tidioute knives that I love the look of but just will not buy because of the gaudy blade etch. It really does make them look like a novelty or carnival knife to me. Love the cap lifter designs, hate the Cap lifter graphic on the blade.
Blade etch will disappear with use or constant whipping as a safe queen but i agree
that is bone
