Great video! Makes a welcome change from many of the videos of GECs which their owners clearly aren't planning on using for their intended purpose. Like you, I use mine, including the Northfields - it's what they're made for!
Enjoyed the video. I happen to like the 2 bladed trappers. I've been carrying 2 bladed trappers since 1971. A lot of people DO have a use for a full second blade. If your ever out in the field doing a lot of cutting, they'll get you out of a pinch when ya start losing your edge on the main. I like a single blade too, but if given the choice of only having 1 knife, I'm going with 2 blades every time. You have to understand, not everyone has the same uses for a knife, and you'd be surprised at how much a knife is used by some folks like farmers & ranchers, or even someone who spends a lot of time outdoors. We used to stay out for a week at a time, and one blade would be dedicated to cleaning fish or game, while the other would be used for cutting everything else. Good to see you making more videos. I hope you make more. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! I used to own the 73 model that GEC did for Schrade. Excellent fit and finish-- it carried very well in the back pocket, kind of wish I held onto it. As soon as I tried that single bladed version I instantly fell in love with how it disappeared in my front pocket. However from what I understand the old Remington "bullet trapper" is THE go-to pocket knife dedicated to hard work (right up there with the Barlow I imagine). I appreciate your comment and would like to thank you for sharing your knife collection and knowledge with the TKA series with Rob. I really enjoy those videos and hope to see more in the future!
Nice. What do you think of the 81 2 blade pattern? Do you still carry those particular few most? I love the calf roper 66. I have one and feel like that size carries best. I like to front pocket carry my knives and the larger ones are super awkward.
I think the 81 is a great pattern, I really like the moose knives. I owned one in red linen for the longest time and sold it with the idea I would replace it with one in a bone handle material. Have yet to make that purchase. If you front carry and prefer the 3.5” of the calf roper it would probably be too big. I always had to let it sit beside my wallet in my back pocket to be comfortable. Of the knives shown in this video all are gone except for the 15 and 73. Those are my go-to carry knives. I regret getting rid of the 53 the most, but you know how that goes. Thanks for watching!
I agree on the blade etching thing. There are many Tidioute knives that I love the look of but just will not buy because of the gaudy blade etch. It really does make them look like a novelty or carnival knife to me. Love the cap lifter designs, hate the Cap lifter graphic on the blade.
What kind of knife storage roll do you use? I've built up quite a large knife collection and I've been looking for a good quality roll to keep them in. Thanks! -Jim
BCV Piper Evening! mine is a Hickory Hill knife roll. Cannot recommend it enough. You can usually find them on ebay or on SMKW's website for around $40. Take care!
+KnifeReviews60 That's quite a lot smaller than I'd anticipated given the 4+ inch handle - and that's a very good thing (legal carry here). Thank you very much
Collecting is a sickness and we will make up any lame excuse, like food preparation to purchase these high end knives ... Good video but we are all very broken toys lol
The Gec'73 single blade is probably the Perfect pocket knife,I dont know what would be better, the '72 and '74 are also really good also♥️
Very well presented, I like how you reviewed the knives in detail.

#47 and #72 are by far my favorites....just the perfect size IMHO.

Blade etch will disappear with use or constant whipping as a safe queen but i agree
What do you use to oil your 1095 blades?
Mineral oil is what I prefer to use, thanks!

What's the cutting edge length of the main blade on the Cuban pen?
I measure right around 2 and 11/16ths inches of cutting edge. Hope that helps you out!

Doomed!
I just tell my wife that they will increase in value and she can sell them all when I die.
That's the truth!🙂
