    God bless you. Sarno saved me from chronic pain years ago. I’ve been having fatigue lately as a symptom substitution due to stress in life. I know it’s Sarno and I must keep taking action and keep living. Thank you for your story!

    Agreed. EMDR / Hypnotherapy does help to process the emotions. The way Dr Sarno describes to do it in " homework" actually produces MORE fear.

    Sounds like you're doing it the right way my friend. I've started an online brain training course (re-origin) for my fibromyalgia/CFS and it's basically the stuff you're doing (based on Dr. Sarno and Norman Doidge's work) and I'm seeing vast improvements!

    I think Dr Sarno's on the suppression of emotions is fair, in that when you consider the work Dr Gabor Mate and his interpretation regarding 'when the body says no" we are discovering that if we do not 'stand up for ourselves' or 'stand our ground' in particular situation that is personally imposing and we have no boundary, and that can come from many contacts from our interpersonal relationships, work and connections, we have a subconscious reaction to this stressor. When we are in a given situation we may feel we are unfairly treated and maybe even dismissed, you will note that this is when we tend to suppress that emotional state and silently suffer, mental, physical and emotionally states and conditions - all interconnected and all have a major impact and effect upon our mental and physical health. I have experienced a great deal of the aspects of the human mental health states and conditions, and many times been disabled and been bed ridden for weeks at a time, because not once did I set a clear boundary and said no to over demanding individuals, work and life situations. So in the context of suppressing our emotions, I would say that we do suffer immensely, if we allow ourselves to be door mats and walked all over, so that part of Dr Sarno's understanding on witnessing many patients suppressing their own mental health for others I believe is very accurate. This may (or may not) relate to childhood conditioning and that in itself is what can lead us to be easily pushed aside and often ignored. It does go very deep into the subconscious and this is what drives the 'fight or flight' response and reaction to life events. When you related to being in your bedroom and with an eye covering, this was me 30 years ago, everything seemed to invade my world and I closed myself off into a room where I subconsciously felt safer even with the overall body pain, fatigue and depression. It took sometime for me to realize, from many books and psychotherapy, that I was running away from life and hiding behind my own symptoms, my subconscious was protecting me (all of us) from this exposure to perceived threats and danger. To fully recover, you must not fight on with yourself and you must not run away and hide behind symptoms, but face and accept them and surrender and don't be afraid. Then you begin to heal and get better, as the nervous system calms and settles down, which takes time you will recover - I guarantee you will return to your old self and heal. Your videos are great help to many and wish you all the best on your personal journey, maybe you could write a book? as your able to relate very effectively the body-mind-connection and we all need help at times. Good Luck!

  • @wonle22
    @wonle22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey nice video, I also felt unsure about the explanation of the symptoms as a distraction. Your explanation makes intuitively a little more sense. However I was thinking that humans do have a tendency to look for controlled pain when they are under a lot of stress. Think about self mutilation, or even thinks like very spicy food in a less harmful way. I guess, there could also be an unconscious wish for this which could result in symptoms. What do you think? When I think about my own symptoms, I do feel in a weird way a little attached to them. Somewhere they do feel like they prevent me from fully feeling and being in the world, and that brings a certain kind of safety. If I were to imagine myself fully feeling and being present, a certain fear comes up. For me it's mostly at the core a fear of feeling inferior. I think it's very valuable to think about whether we are psychologically attached to our symptoms. Anyway I do agree we shouldn't focus on finding that suppressed feeling, and start stressing out about it. Only if it were that this stress would become another distraction. But still it could be valuable to look for a feeling that we are being distracted from, not necessarily in the past from old trauma's, but in the present. For me right now I think it is the feeling of inferiority. The weird thing is that the symptoms also make me feel inferior, so they are not a perfect distraction, but rather a controlled simulation of inferiority felt from outside condemning. I wonder how this works. I guess there is always an attraction towards our fears. edit: probably it feels weird to say that the brain creates symptoms, because it feels like it is a rational guy that thinks it's handy to create symptoms. A more intuitive explanation could be that it just feels better to deal with controlled pain that couldn't cause much danger from outside, like people making you feel inferior. And so the symptoms just come up more naturally, as in cause and effect... without seeing the brain as some autonomous architect, like you get the feeling with Sarno's explanation

    It's a danger loop in the subcouncious brain... Defenitly TMS... If danger in the brain is the cause... Safety is the solotion... When the subcouncious brain believes your safe.. The fight/flight calms down and your nervous system too.... It's the way you respond to your symptoms.... Always react calm and safe with the accurate knowledge.
