Spearfishing the Western Shores of Big Island Hawaii: Gone Spearing Episode 6
After sifting through some old computer files, I stumbled across a nearly finished spearfishing video that we shot in Spring 2021. This dive was with Kat Melheim, Founder of the Coffee People Zine (instagram: @coffeepeoplezine), who was visiting us for a few weeks while touring some of the local coffee scenes on the Big Island. It was her first time diving, and she did an amazing job helping us manage equipment while also enjoying the water and wildlife.
You can learn more about her amazing organization called Coffee People Zine here:

In the spring of 2021, I was almost finished producing this video when I accidentally deleted some key files from the introduction. Feeling dejected, I put the video on hold and now, just over a year later, finished the edit. I added a few voice overs and finished the video out so that the dive could be remembered by us and enjoyed by others! Huge shout out to Nainoa Calvo (Instagram: @nainoacalvo) for sharing his many years of diving experience with us when he goes fishing with our crew.
As always, these videos are made possible by Summation Athletics. Big thanks to them for supplying the video and computer equipment!

Hunting High and Low in Hawaii's High-Country: Pursuing Pigs and Sheep in Changing Weather
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
On this hunt, we're chasing pigs and sheep in the rugged high-country of Hawaii's Big-Island. While most folks think of warm and sunny beaches when they hear the word "Hawaii" this state offers a wide variety of climates, and weather can change on a minute-to-minute basis making spot-and-stalk hunting challenging to execute effectively. Aside from the beautiful scenery in this video, you'll als...

Hunting in Hawaii's High Country: Searching for Pigs, Sheep, and Goats!
มุมมอง 2.1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
It's getting to be late-summer in the northern hemisphere, and that means hunting season is firing up for many hunters! In Hawaii, we are fortunate to have a year-round hunting season for several species, including feral pigs, sheep, and goats. In this episode, I head into the high-country of Hawaii in search of some extra meat for our freezer. We talk about spot-and-stalk hunting strategies fo...
Hawaii Pua'a (wild-boar) sausage: Meat preparation and recipe!!!
มุมมอง 3.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
After spending some time out of the water and in the office, Nai and I managed to sneak out for some pig hunting on Mauna Kea. It was Nai's first hunting trip, so I was excited we were able to land a pig and provide some meat for both of our families to enjoy! This video shows how I breakdown some of the cuts of meat to prepare them for grinding and shares a great recipe for wild-boar breakfast...

Gone Spearing: Episode 3 Diving with dolphins, spearing a giant Pualu, and spearing my first Mu!
มุมมอง 6204 ปีที่แล้ว
Regaining access to a favorite dive spot, I decided to hit another gem on the west coast of Hawaii, this time with a three-pronged attack (literally). After seeing some dolphins beyond the breaks on our way out, we managed to have a bumper day spearing some of the more popular reef species and I even managed a bottom time long enough for a Mu! Full list of my dive equipment to come (see video)....
Midwest Spearo Tako Dive
มุมมอง 6394 ปีที่แล้ว
With restrictions easing, I decided to go diving with a good friend of mine who's got loads more time in the water than I do. We chose the same spot on the west coast of Hawaii as our last video and, while the fishing action was slow, we managed to get a decent size octopus (Tako) and a few other reef fish. Topics discussed include hunting invasive fish species, Tako hunting techniques, and the...
Noob spearo from Kansas fishes Hawaii's Kona coast
มุมมอง 1.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
What's it like to learn how to spearfish? After growing up in Kansas in the middle of the continental USA, I've spent the last year learning how to spearfish while living in Hawaii. This is our first video, and you can certainly tell I'm still learning how to spearfish and create video content. Constructive feedback is always appreciated! Huge shootouts to Team Fish and Dive Hawaii, Daniel Mann...
