  • With restrictions easing, I decided to go diving with a good friend of mine who's got loads more time in the water than I do. We chose the same spot on the west coast of Hawaii as our last video and, while the fishing action was slow, we managed to get a decent size octopus (Tako) and a few other reef fish. Topics discussed include hunting invasive fish species, Tako hunting techniques, and the difficulties of learning to hunt and fish. The "tomorrow" dive discussed at the end of the video turned out to be a huge success, so make sure you subscribe to catch that video when it's released!!!

Nice vid, Scott! Can you list your gear in the description? Thanks! Do you use a Float Line on your speargun and attach it to your buoy? Just wondering.

Glad you liked the video! I'll have to get a proper list of my gear around and post it with every video. Maybe I can make a quick video of what I keep in my dive bag and experiences with various types of gear. I use a simple double wrap method on my speargun and will typically have the gun attached to my buoy with 50 ft of regular marine rope (available at wal-mart). It does a good job floating when I'm on the surface and I don't ever feel bad cutting parts of it when needed. My gun is rigged with a hefty mono-filiment, which serves me well for the reef fish we go after. I'll probably switch to a reel and different rigging once we start targeting pelagic or other larger species. My dive buddy, Nai, rocks a reel on his gun.
