Ham radio is still going strong, although few Hams build their own radios anymore, and they are much smaller, many of us still like using the old ones and keeping them going too. Morse code (CW) is still used by some, but no longer required to get your license, just a simple 25 or 35 multi-choice test that's easy to study for to get the first entry level license.

    • @on7fd

this is indeed true, it remains a fantastic hobby. There are indeed fewer and fewer self-build projects because the cost of ready-made devices is becoming increasingly affordable. Still, DIY remains part of the ham radio experimentation. 73, ON7FD

QRZ, I got my novice license in June of 1960, KN5EYS, and my general one year later, K5EYS, the same call I still hold today, 04.2023. The ham fraternity was hoping to see a multi band beam on top of the White House when Barry Goldwater (R) K7UGA was running for POTUS. Unfortunately it did not happen. Some might have thought that Barry just had a ham license with very little activity, but you can go on line right now and read his story and the active bands and traffic handling that he was doing even back then, when he was a US Senator. He was also very technically minded and very talented, and could have advanced communication technology back in the 60s if he had gotten in the W H. He was still able to get a lot done as a Senator and was on very powerful committees on Capital hill. RIP Barry, K7UGA
