Gino’s Garage-1998 Newell- Trying to diagnose and repair pocket door air cylinder.

Pulling the air cylinder out for a air pocket door in a 1998 Newell 2000. Did not end up really repairing this, there is still more work to be done. Apparently Newell typically just replaces this whole device when they start to act up. I may end up going to that route. So many questions! Does the new inverter replace the transfer switch? What are all those relays and circuits you reinstalled for? What do they do? I’m looking at the victron quattro and wondering how its install compares to yours.

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So all the relays you see on top are factory in the original system. I did not change any of those, other than how they are controlled. The relays act as a sort of transfer switch system and a inverter transfer switch all in one. The inverter was also built into this system, so all I really did was replace the inverter/charger that was inside with a new inverter/charger. I posted more about this on the IRV2 American Coach forum: www.irv2.com/forums/f107/heart-source-manager-20-replacement-470989-8.html#post6559045

    You better sit down. It has been over six months and mechanic after mechanic said my cause for black smoke was one thing or another. But I going to change the fuel pump to the Blower. 2 questions is there a way to release the pressure in the fuel lines before taking everything apart? And it is a very tight space where the pump is. 2 is there a Easy way to replace the pump?;

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There should be very little pressure in the fuel system, it’s not a high pressure system. The fuel pump is not easy to get to, you just have to squeeze in there to get to it. The one bolt is always challenging, usually a wrench and some patience is the only way.

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re getting black smoke that means too much fuel and not enough air. Do you have a turbo? If it starts acting up after some time driving, then it might be the turbo. Need to inspect it and make sure that it spins freely and that it’s not moving around enough to make contact with the housing.

    • @patrickguida3979
      @patrickguida3979 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GinosGarageUSA The Turbo was ruled out 4months ago. It spins like free bird. Apparently the mechanics that looked at my Fire Truck only beleave a fuel pump is mounted on outside of a engine. One even said ( I know this engine and worked on them many times). Well a peace of dust or drop of oil stain or a bolt had been turned at the fuel pump. His anwser was it was the transmission. Its my turn. Thanks to you I have purchased and overnight shipped a new fuel pump from a company DIESEL PRO POWER. This is a mission to show those guys need a refresher course. • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@patrickguida3979 No problem. I am not aware of any fuel pressure or fuel temperature sensors. Is your engine an electronic engine or a mechanical engine? If it’s mechanical it does not have any engine computer at all. You will have sensors for dash gauges but that’s all.

    I'm trying to get that connector unplugged on mine. It seems like you just spin that outer ring 1/8 turn and then it should unplug right? I put free all on it, put a vice grip on that outer ring and a ratchet strap to the tag axle and it still won't budge. How on earth can it be so stuck?? I see you getting yours off by hand. That little oil leak probably helped it out...

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, they can get corroded. I would suspect it’s frozen itself together. I would gently tap on it to see if you can free up the corrosion. May also try a bit of gentle heat or maybe even try it after you have driven it so that it’s warm already from the drive.

    • @castirondude
      @castirondude 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GinosGarageUSA I ended up having to break that outer ring. I tried for literal hours and there's no other way it was going to come apart. I chiseled it in half and used a 36" crowbar to break it off. Even now half of the wiring harness is still stuck in the transmission connector, wedged in by lots of aluminum oxide. I can confirm that this connector is NOT delicate. I would recommend lubricating this connector with dielectric grease any time the transmission is serviced

      @@GinosGarageUSAthanks for the reply. I have a new to me dump truck that was originally a 6v92tt. I had to rebuild the blower and replace turbo, added mini bypass plate and aftercooler, and just found today that one of the injectors (9290’s) was stuck and beat up the plunger. The rack on that injector was stuck in full fuel position and the plunger was stuck in the down position so not sure if this was constantly letting some amount of fuel by or not. Just trying to figure which direction to go 9g95’s or 9a98’s or bigger. I know when loaded I’ll be up around that weight and maybe a bit heavier but I don’t have grades like you speak of to navigate.

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rfinn2506 A bypass blower is always good to have. I believe mine is an 80% bypass and I want to eventually change to the 100% bypass blower. A Detroit guru also told me about a smaller number of teeth on the blower drive helps as well. If the injector gets stuck down it will not fuel, it has to be pressed down to squirt the fuel, doubt you were getting any fuel from that injector. I would recommend a fuel additive like opti-lube to help with the lubrication of your injectors, low sulfur diesel is missing lubrication. Bigger injectors will only help to a point then you also need to get it more air with a turbo that moves more air, and the 100% bypass blower, otherwise the turbo will not do any good. The Detroit guy said also that if you really want more power you have to go to industrial injectors, they will be numbers only in the designation, any injector with a letter designation is for on road use and it limits the fuel to prevent excess smoking at take off.

    This is the wrong spec of oil, as per the manual it should be - SAE 5W-30 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5005, or WSS-M2C934-B. If unavailable, SAE 5W-30 meeting specification ACEA C2 may be used.

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, I am purposely running the ACEA C3, its only drawback is slightly increased fuel mileage. But due to this engine design I want as much lubrication as possible due to the weak design for the crankshaft.

    Done mine yesterday with a bottle jack and a 4x4 laying in rocks. Took me roughly 5hrs. Key to breaking the bolts is heat for about a min the slow and steady on backing them out. Wasn’t hard at all for me

    Question does the Detroit Diesel Engine TA92 Silver have a FUEL INJECTOR PUMP? If so where is it Located?

    • @GinosGarageUSA
      @GinosGarageUSA 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No they do not have an injection pump. They are multi unit injectors, the high pressure fuel is only in each injector. You have a low pressure fuel pump driven off the blower that supplies fuel to the injectors.

    • @patrickguida3979
      @patrickguida3979 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Reason why I have Exact engine. It runs text book normal. 2 1/2 miles then black smoke & speed from 40,50mph drops basic stall Changed air, fuel filters tank drained new fuel. You have idea to check?

      @@patrickguida3979 I would replace the fuel lines going to the fuel pump on the engine. They can suck air and cause this very problem. What is this engine in?

      I typically do it every oil change. And especially on this engine since it has a CP-4 pump on it.
