    Please be so kind and explain the purpose of the tail loop mentioned in 19:28 , I dont understand why it is there. Thanks

      @hanginghighhammocks 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's keeps tension on the bury to prevent you from accidentally loosening the bury and also prevent the tail from hanging down

  • @nomars4827

    Made it even with 6 inch bury on ends end 12 inch bury on constrictor part. Slips with my 70kg (( Made with 3mm (1/8 inch) Chinese UHMWPE. It's too slippy. Just think it is 100 diameters bury and it slips with human weight. Maybe the reason is that small ring doesn't hold

  • @nomars4827
    @nomars4827 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Is 4 inches enough for burring? It is recommended at least 50 and up to 100 diameters to bury after brummel lock. So it's probably o.k. if you use 2mm rope. But anything thicker should be burried longer. According to hownot2 video the strength of brummel with short bury can half. I advice to see it to everyone who want to make something with UHMWPE th-cam.com/video/lhIPeJNWtxE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oZ049C4q23Bw28ov

    Question for you on this. I received my REM hammock yesterday and it has a shock cord inside the bug net to hold it up. The SRL is on the outside. Is that the way you want it to be used? I'd like to ditch the shock cord and run the SRL inside, like I usually do. Can I do that, or is the SRL outside the net to make sure the net can't get stretched too far somehow. It's a nice piece of gear and I'm planning to get some good use out of it. Thank you.

    I like to have 5-6 diameters or the line for the noose size. I think yours is a bit too small. I think that the soft shackles that you sell have larger nooses than you are showing. A small crochet hook will work instead of the latch hook as well.

    Is the process similar for thicker 12 strand dyneema? I was following along, but the last steps of hiding the ends only seems to stop about an inch inside. Much harder to pull it, or even get a grip on it with the smaller latch hook.

  • @donmonnot6156
    @donmonnot6156 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Have you tried break testing your loops? After the initial part where you pulled each tail through the other side, it looked like you could easily pull the loop apart. Without actually locking the loop, it seems like the strength of the splice is based on the buried ends. Not even lockstitched? Hmm. I'm skeptical of the strength.

    • @hanginghighhammocks
      @hanginghighhammocks 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have, and they actually were stronger than a locking stich continuous loop. It wasn't much difference, though. The average for the locked brummel was 2928 pounds and 3044 for these.

    Im still not getting whoopie slings? You still need to have tree straps, right? So effectively adding more weight. Im thinking a paracord loop, a metre long with a reef knot, then clip your carabiner for the whoopie sling. Any suggestions?

    • @hanginghighhammocks

      Tree straps are indeed crucial to protect trees, so you'll want to keep using them. Amsteel, in contrast to paracord, has minimal stretch and offers easier adjustability. Why not hang your tarp over its ridgeline?

    • @hanginghighhammocks
      @hanginghighhammocks ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply. The reason I don't hang my tarp on my hammock ridgeline is because one you have your tarp taught and you get in your hammock, your tarp will not be tight anymore. This is because once you get in your hammock it will sag and pull in some. This will cause your tarp to come in on you and will not shed water properly. You also want your tarp a little higher in order to give you some room to move around under it. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Until then... Get Hanging!

    • @hanginghighhammocks
      @hanginghighhammocks ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah sorry about that. Honestly, that's personal preference. If you hang it over the ridgeline, the movement of the tarp on the ridgeline may cause premature wear on your tarp.

    • @citizenatlrge
      @citizenatlrge ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fishntools There is more than one way to hang a tarp obv.. If your tarp has been seam-taped on the underside for instance, laying the tarp over the ridgeline would potentially introduce wear on the ridgeline seam-taping and cause it to leak prematurely.. In which case, this example is the way to go. H3's newest Hideaway Tarp for example comes this way, seam-taped on the underside of the ridgeline and at the midpoint tie-outs on the walls. I'm going to be adding seam-sealing to the outside myself. ie- th-cam.com/video/3sv2Hhrn1Vg/w-d-xo.html Thinking about this some more, in a particularly windy situation, having the tarp over a stiff ridgeline and the tarp's ridgeline being 'rubbed' laterally across it, it could cause the seam to pop-over the stationary ridgeline and maybe cause premature ridgeline seam-threads failure?

  • @BooLee01
    @BooLee01 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just curious. Why do you attach the Larks Heads to soft material and not to the carabiner? I just bought a OneWind hammock that has an adjustable ridgeline already on it, and it is attached to the buckles on either end of the hammock. Now I am planning on buying a second, cheaper hammock without a ridgeline for friends who want to go camping with me. I plan on adding a ridgeline myself. So I am researching how to make them. I just noticed that you attach to webbing where mine is attached to buckles, and I thought I'd ask why.

    • @hanginghighhammocks
      @hanginghighhammocks ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question! It is really up to the hanger in my opinion. When you research how long does a ridgeline need to be, many people recommend starting with a length of 83% of the hammocks length. If you go by this formula, then you will want to attach it to the end of the hammock or as close as possible. If you use an attachment point farther from the hammock ends, you will need to do 83% of that length end to end. What I'm trying to say is that if you have a 11 foot hammock and you are attaching your ridgeline a foot up, away from the hammock end, on each side, then you will need to make your ridgeline 83% of 13 feet. In my experience, you want the ridgeline as close to the hammock ends as possible.

    • @hanginghighhammocks

      Honestly, I have never worked with 1/8" amsteel but may just need a size bigger to make the hole larger. For amsteel versus dyneema, I believe Samson purchases dyneema and then braids it into their own line, Amsteelblue.
