Always been impressed with Holbien paints, very solid coverage with an insanely high pigmentation.
Love all your vids. Hey did you show all of YOUR paintings on the wall? Why not?
I just got the medium size yesterday!! I got the gray insert. Can I still use the wood for the palette? Im hoping the wood is still prepared the same, so I'll have the 2 options. Thanks
Yes, you can remove insert and use just the back of the easel!
@openstudiod thank you.
I really appreciate the side by side with your pallet as you go and the mixing process. Thats perfect and genius. Thank you for that.❤
I thought the video were about Casey Bough, haha.

Hello, I noticed your title and was curious about what you had to say regarding the danger of gels. I have been using gels in my paintings for years. Initially, I experimented with homemade mixtures of Cabosil fumed silica in either alkyd or linseed oil as a medium. For convenience, I’ve used Galkyd Gel, and more recently I’ve experimented with Gamblin’s solvent-free gel, using it sparingly, with colors negatively affected by yellowing. I have only experienced cracks like the ones you showed on a single occasion. It happened when I layered a faster-drying color over a thick layer of slow-drying paint that had not fully cured. I lacked patience and worked too fast. Contrary to my assumption, the gel in the impasto’s base layer didn’t set quickly enough. This broke the fat-over-lean rule. Aside from that single incident, I’ve only encountered issues with gels when I’ve overused fumed silica in my custom blends. Doing so can cause gels to crack if the mix contains too much solvent and insufficient binder. I find, if used properly, the gels work well for adding additional transparency. I have to agree with another commenter, the cracks in your painting actually look pretty cool. I would either accentuate them with a wash, or mix up a white filler paint and apply it with nitril gloves, wiping off the excess to make them less visible. Just a thought. The gels added transparency is also a potential problem since it accentuates binder yellowing with age. If you build that into your expectation of how the painting will look over time, it isn’t usually a problem.
I don't understand the white pallet?

Hey guys, As promised, here is an episode about building an art industry-approved website from scratch, with some of my philosophy of why it is so important. Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy!
I can definitely recommend you to Rublev. Natural Pigments offers incentives, and gifts as you keep doing business with them, and they have great support. Not that you need it- their products are awesome, well saturated, and so, so nice to use! I don't need to add much of anything to their paints, hardly adding any medium. oh- yeah, 11.00$ is par for the course on most good paint? But any cadmium or leaded or special colors that will always be upwards of 22-30$... that's just the way it is. Packaging? Come on, the bubble wrap isn't what saves the tube in mailing- its the high density cardboard box. If it crushes a box like that bubble wrap or foam won't save you.

I've had several scammers attempt to lure me in on Facebook. I'd also like to add, if they offer a huge amount of money up front, it's a scam .
Thank for sharing you’re a gem
This video was so very helpful! I really appreciate your effort in detailing all the ways to avoid being scammed.
Hello my friends, I thought this small tip on dealing with Art Scammers would be helpful to share with you. Let me know what you think... please :)
I’ve really been enjoying your reviews! Great channel and wonderful art too. I know this is a few years old (and you’re now a U.Go person!) but would you still recommend the Strada? It seems like both the U.Go and Strada have their niches (I imagine the Strada would be ideal for travel overseas or in overly wet conditions due to the simple fact it’s aluminum) but both seem quite nice.
@@centradragon thank you for your kind words. Each easel has its own niche and it is all depends what you are looking for. As of today I would definitely recommend three on the market: Strada U.go ArtProEasel (this one because I designed it :)
I had the same issue with another type of dryer. top coat dried faster than the one below, hence cracking.
Masterclass oil paintings have terrible quality, since they contain high amounts of dammar and beeswax.
I love Michael Harding and have almost all his colours but you’re right it’s impossible to use just one brand.
Get on with it !!
Quality is hard to find….thank you VASARI!💜💜💜💜💜💜

"Kindly" is not Indian English, it is a bit old-fashioned but is perfectly normal US or UK English. In the US at least, it is used now mostly in formal situations involving a request made to a stranger.
@@maletu but it is overused by scammers from India and Pakistan
Ive only had scam people use "kindly" also. Its a thing, its real.
I like the effect.
Stay away from gamblin Whites. They yellow in a very short time. I stay away from anything Gamblin. Check the labels. For instance I buy Old holland Raw umber Pbr7. Rembrandts Raw umber is a mix of colors to make it look like Raw umber.
If your white has Zinc in it, it might be the Zinc. That is proving a problem with cracking and loss.
this may be a silly question , but couldn't the issue have been the white paint ( rather than the gel?) .. since it only happened with the white areas?? thanks so much for sharing your experience with the scam .. sorry it happened ..
Zelle is a common scammer's favorite. You tell them what you use. You don't let them tell you. This scam is not new.
Gamblin clearly informs you not to add more than 25% of gel to your oil paint. Why blame the product for user error?
@@gingertunstall7739 if you can paint with the scale right next to you and every time you want to use the gel just scale it to make sure it is not more than 25%. I would recommend not to use it at all. Nothing is wrong to paint using just oil paint… it is actually dry fast
Vlad did say it was his own fault, that he used more than the recommended amount.
He said multiple times that it was his error, using too much! He is taking responsibility and has chosen not to recommend it, that is his right!
Hello Friends! I'm back in the studio and ready to rock-n-roll... working on a lot of ideas and will be posting soon. This episode was spontaneous just to share something that I just experienced. Let me know if you have any ideas or requests - will work on it. Currently, I'm in the process of finishing my business plan for 2025... which is very interesting - will share!
Vlad-how long do you think it took for your painting to crack?
@ this painting was done about year and half ago… and I. Pretty sure I look at this painting about six months ago… I was thinking to submit it to the show.. and the cracks were not there. So, I would say it started about 5 month ago.
@@openstudiod sorry that happened to you my friend! Good thing you had not sold it! I just finished a bunch of clouds and I used gel and Titanium White…I hope I did not use too much gel. Thanks for sharing and referencing your previous demo
Even though pigments are the same, some brands have different handling properties from gritty ,thick to smooth brushing. Also, poppy seed oil from blockx is 6 times more expensive than linseed and colours are less yellowing. Safflower oil paints are a different story as well plus their drying time is slower than linseed and poppyseed is slowest of all ...horses for courses. Not-so-oldHolland ( 1985) has a lot of hydrogenated castor oil which nothing like old masters paint. Neither Michael Harding's paint old master issue. If you want smack in your face colour intensity, try Langridge oils from Australia. There is Leroux from france to try for pigment- price ratio. With the economy tanking in europe now, you want to look at some european brands sales. Nikolai Fechin used mussini resin- oil paints for his layered mixing. If you do alla prima, just mix anything together. But if you glaze you better know what binding oil dries fast, mid and slow. You just can't chuck different brands together. Some brands like mussini and maimeri are formulated to dry evenly across the whole range of colours. This changes handling properties. Hence you had better know wtf you are doing...oils aint oils.Cheers
This was very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Is masterclass a single pigment viridian?
Most people overthink this stuff. Just get affordable artist grade paint. Those Old Holland, Michael Harding, etc. designer brands have highly diminishing returns. Many of the greatest painters use/used what by today's social media bubble is called 'mid tier artist grade'. Richard Schmid for example used Gamblin.
One of the best discourses on the excitement and personal satisfaction of plein air painting. Charlie has obviously thought a lot about why paint, and why paint plein air. EXCELLENT! Also, his commitment to sketching is outstanding. We all should do more sketching.
