      That's hard to say. Since I was making a video with this job, it took 4x as long as it should have. This could have easily been done in 2 hours, or even less. So at the most, 2 hours times your rate. The customer provided the new blade, so it was all labor. Torch cutting the bad part off was maybe 30 mins. I think it was around $300.

    Flame cutting steel is a chemical reaction process, you are burning the steel, not melting and blowing it away therefore once initiated very little pressure-heat is required to maintain the cut. Propane will produce a nicer cut than acetylene because acetylene is too hot of a flame . If you use your disk grinder with a cut off disk and mark your line with it the flame will “see” the line and try to follow it. Cut to the scrap side of the line and your good side will still have the nice sharp corner from the cut off disk and you will find that you don’t need the burn bar anymore. You will also be able to cut with a cooler flame which will produce a nicer cut. Pre-heating the plate is not necessary at all, and oxygen-propane is used to pierce and cut much thicker plates- 4 to 6 inches and cut up to the capacity of the torch- 14- 15 inches or more. Using the correct tip and pressure settings is very important. Great video, very few videos show anything outside of the regular textbook routine safely and basic techniques.

      Wow, thanks. Thata really cool info. Next time I get the chance, I will try marking my cut with the disc. Thanks for watching!

    Awesome , brother great video, happy fourth and wise words as usual! Appreciate all the work time and energy you put in to the vids !!! I currently run oxy / acetylene put have been tempted to save a few bucks with propane considering I don’t do heavy cutting seems like it would handle everything I would run into. @ 90 bucks vs 25-30. What is the run time with the propane?

    • @AllStarWeldingSC
      @AllStarWeldingSC 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the kind words. And yes, shooting the video takes time, then there is editing, and uploading. It does take a lot of time. So far, propane works good for the stuff I do. The only thing you can't do with oxy/propane, is you can't weld with it, which I don't do anyway. I get my propane filled at a local hardware store for $13. I do alot of heating with a rosebud, and that consumes a large amount of oxygen, and cutting. I would say I go through about 10-15 bottles of oxygen to one tank of propane, depending on how I use it. Oxygen costs me $35. So, in all, it's a very cheap setup.

  • @MrKotBonifacy
    @MrKotBonifacy 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I'd say it'd best to preheat that 1" plate WITHOUT that angle iron guide sitting on it, next to preheat area, as this piece being relatively thin (below 1/4" wall thickness, I reckon) may just heat too much from these hot gases bouncing off the plate - and warp "a little too much". And at any rate it may get tad too hot for comfortable handling anyway. Also, if you tack weld short section of a square rod about 1/4" - 3/8" thick to that angle iron guide every 3" or so (perpendicular to it, of course), the clearance created underneath the guide by these pieces would facilitate the escape of hot gases from the torch - which would then reduce greatly the heating of the guide - so the guide won't get too hot during the cutting. Means, no warping and easier to handle. Well, at least it's what I did some time ago when I had to do some cutting with my lousy oxy-propane setting (which is, basically, good only for cutting scrap), but then it's up to you whether to follow my advice - or "follow it not" ;-) Cheers anyway!

    • @AllStarWeldingSC
      @AllStarWeldingSC 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the comment. You are right. That's called a "burn bar". I have one somewhere around here, just could t find it. I guess it's time to make another one. Maybe that will be another video soon? Maybe this week. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment.

    • @MrKotBonifacy
      @MrKotBonifacy 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@AllStarWeldingSC Yeah, "burn bar". Of course, it is worth making one only if you'll be using it more than once or twice a year - otherwise, for one-off "every other blue moon (or so)" cutting job, a piece of any angle iron would do. Also, for clarification - that oxy-LPG setup of mine is not lousy "because of propane" - it's lousy because it is lousy by itself. I know acetylene (or MAPP) burns hotter and cuts better, but then it's pretty expensive too, and if all I need is to make couple of "separation cuts" (as opposed to "precision cuts"), each of these jobs couple of years apart, then why bother? So it's LPG and that torch that's probably as old as myself (if not older - and I'm just few weeks shy of sixty, eff it... ;-) Anyway, I'm not a fabricator and I use my oxy-propane torch occasionally only - for brazing stuff or heating things to be bent, forged or hardened - and that cutting torch sees action next to never, but since a lousy torch is better than no torch, I just keep it around "just in case". It still kinda-sorta works, and if it works, it works, period. Cheers!

    • @AllStarWeldingSC
      @AllStarWeldingSC 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree. 90% of my work is repair. Usually farm type stuff, or a mobile repair. So, must of my cuts are just to get something off that's bent. When I need something more precise, I will use the plasma.

    • @AllStarWeldingSC
      @AllStarWeldingSC หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment, and watching. The Rufian is a nice unit, and Esab puts out some great stuff no doubt. When I was choosing which machine to roll with, there were a few considerations that I had to think about... the Rufian wasn't out yet, but I was also looking at the 160a Miller and the 145a Hobart. I occasionally go up to 140amps, and I thought it would tax the Hobart too much to run it at full capacity. So the 195a Outlaw won that battle. But I routinely run 90a on a 3/32 7018. And, like you said, electric start was another bonus. Not a deal breaker, but I didn't want to be jumping up in the truck to pull start it every time. So, the Outlaw won again. The Outlaw is 6500w, which is good. I also like the throttle control dropping to idle when not used. I can't remember if the Hobart or the Miller has that feature. Does the Rufian have that? I don't remember. I do like the Kohler on the Rufian. It really doesn't matter what we use, as long as we get the job done, right? Miller has one now that you can plug into a 220v outlet to run instead of running off the engine. That's pretty sick. To me, the Outlaw met all my criteria better than other machines that were out at the time. So when I went to buy the Outlaw is when I found out it was discontinued. So I had to buy a used one I found on Marketplace. But, GOOD NEWS!! Its available again. They updated it with a CO2 monitor. You can order one at the store and it takes a few weeks to come in. Keep us updated on how you like your Rufian. Esab makes great stuff! And, not to mention that the Outlaw is only $1799.

      You and me both, brother. The good news is that these are available again to order from your HF store. I don't know yet if they have any actually in the store, but you can order one. And, I was prepared to order a new one. I might still order a new one, with warranty, and keep the old one for back up, for another truck, or just for parts.

So, I'm going to fix that Sunday, and I will make a video about it and post it Sunday night. Watch for it. It will be pretty interesting, because I have to separate the engine from the generator. Useful information. Then, I will make your video. I really appreciate you watching, subscribing, and commenting.

      Oxy-Propane is great for cutting and heating. Look at my video about torches. I think it's one of the Tailgate Talks. #2 I think. Especially for a mobile welder. You can just put the propane tank on your back seat. If you run out, grab the tank off your grill. Haha

    Could you mount the welder to one side of the truck?

    • @AllStarWeldingSC
      @AllStarWeldingSC 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well... one side has the fuel cut-off valve, the other side has the exhaust blowing out. I guess it could be moved over more towards the driver side. But since it weighs close to 400lbs with fuel, I wanted to keep it centered. I don't really carry much in the bed. So it still has plenty of room. I can still slide my oxygen tank down one side and strap it down.

    Another good one man! One suggestion ive got for an engine drive would be instead of the hobart 145, esab has the ruffian 150 for around the same price. Its a better welder and better engine than the hobart. The briggs motors they use on the hobart have gotten pretty cheap and i personally have had problems with it at only the 30 hr. Mark. Just trying to save someone else from the head ache 👍

    • @AllStarWeldingSC
      @AllStarWeldingSC 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! I had forgotten about the Esab. Also, Klutch made o e identical to the Vulcan. Miller makes a 160 and a 180 I think. The Hobart isn't a bad option. Look up Melting Metal Anthony. He made a video about one he got from Amazon for $1000. He shows himself repairing a huge excavator bucket with it. For someone that wants to get started on a budget, that's the ticket

      @scottfarrell1622 haha... they ha e already put their foot down on that and said absolutely not. Do you like the Klutch? Isn't it almost identical to the Outlaw? Did you see my video about the easy mod to the choke lever?

    • @scottfarrell1622
      @scottfarrell1622 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AllStarWeldingSC yes it is and when on sale its the same price as the outlaw. Its also the same design as the outlaw. My local harbor freight wouldn't order one for me so I went with the klutch. Infact the esab is the same design just less overall out put and an esab inverter. I saw your choke mod video but one difference is the klutch is pull start only so the choke lever is a Manuel style.

I've been having trouble with mine. 3 of the 7 bolts that hold down the crank case cover keep backing out, I assume from vibration, and the fact they don't have loctite or split washers. To fix it, I ha e to separate the generator from the engine. I'm doing it tomorrow and making a video about it. Hopefully, I will upload it tomorrow night so keep an eye out for it.
