As you know, we have been planning our power requirements and system for ages; with hybrid solar, radiant heating with heat pump and it’s in its final stages of construction. We can’t wait to start monitoring and measuring it’s effectiveness!
Climate change cult, eh. When you use your solar panels think of the little African boys who die mining your lithium and copper under dire circumstances and the Chinese who are virtually slaves building that heat pump in very non-green factories.
Looks like we need another reading done to see if anything is going to pop up in the future! Where did they go? Nice to see the boys are settled :) Have you sorted out what your ideal type of property and area? I don't mind spending hours on idealista and other site and you could try offering 50% of asking fee - you never know someone could snap up a cheeky offer especially if they have been hanging on waiting for some "rich" foreigner for years on the advice of their agent haha
Hi Louise thanks you for the numbers, very usefull💐💐You are so right, its depressing to see the prices on Idealista going up every month... Not only for foreigners, the young Portuguese are emigrating by larg numbers because they cant't afford to pay the rent; keep in mind that the income of the average Portugees is like half of our income! I am planning to buy my own property in Portugal and I am going to try and do it by word of mouth, forget the Idealistas and pay a fair price directly to the owners...
@marleenduc6582 You do understand that people like you all put a lot of negative pressure on the rental market as you've been showing up in droves with wads of cash, don't you? And then you wonder why people migrate to your expensive countries of origin thinking it'll be better living in one of them. If it were you all wouldn't be going South now would you. It's a ridiculous shuffling around of wealth and poverty.
Idealista!.. choose the area, go to a local estate agent the little ones not ERA, etc., .. central Portugal is cheaper and double chilled, 25/35 kilometres around Castelo Branco.. if you have a budget it is very cheap to buy, and as always word of mouth is the best. good luck, peace.
Louise, you have no idea how much you have inspired me! I am planning to explore Portugal from early next year, still searching for a small campervan. Fed up with work, looking into early retirement as a single 58 year old . Taking with me my 14 year old bordercollie. I've noticed that most long term rentals prohibit to keep pets. Do you know an area where lots of singles live? It would be nice to connect with people, share knowledge or look after each others pets when you want to make a visit back home. I own a house in the netherlands but want to experience Portugal first before selling it. A small rural house in a green area with a small plot of land 500-1000m2 to purchase would be my dream home. Have 2 cats also who join me here when i walk my dog. Want to grow my own food😊 i am a vegetarian for 35+ years, hope i can get by in Portugal. Have an allotment here but too little time to enjoy it fully, just when i am at my happiest among vegetables and flowers. Some kind of community would be nice where people can support and help each other but live individually most of the time! Preserve food/make wine/syrup etc.I leave a daughter behind who will look after my house/cats while i will explore Portugal for a few months. Maybe we can meet up sometime? So good to see the boys so happy, i remember that pippa used to pull all the fluff out of her bedding and toys too😂 when she was younger.
Not sure singles congregate in any particular area...they are everywhere! If you are vegetarian be prepared to never eat out, especially in the North! 😂
Thank you for sharing, very interesting info! What a lovely story for settling down to rescue your pups, much luck with them! Sounds like looking thru agents or via property sites lend itself to much higher rents mainly for foreigners in general... For those of you who found much better rents by word of mouth, I wonder what you would recommend for those of us completely new to Portugal, who do not have a local network yet, how to find these more reasonable rental options? Does your word of mouth include FB groups? or just friends? Would love any suggestions!
The other two I mentioned were brand new to the country. You build your networks, they did previous scouting visits and reached out in the flesh and online. I paid for a service to help me find my feet when I first arrived. Best euros I ever spent!

Hi @Luize, I have not managed to watch many of your videos, or anyone's really. Just a really random question - if you live in a rural property, do they deliver post or are you able to rent a PO Box or something? Also, when you first got to Portugal, did you do a longterm rental and were you able to use that address for opening a bank account etc? Love your upbeat videos!
I don't live in a rural place. Like any home I get post and mail order stuff here just fine. You don't need a Portuguese address to open a bank account or get a NIFF.
@@Solo50plus Really? I have applied for a NIFF through an agency and that has been processed. Surely you need an address if you wanted a resident bank account? I realise that you live in a town - I was just wondering for myself because I plan to buy in a rural-ish place.

We live in the Algarve we have a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom place that was fully renovated before we moved in, we love it but it is 1000 a month. We have an amazing landlord this is our third year and the rent has stayed the same the whole time.
I live near Oliveira! We bought our quinta in 2008 for €25000. Our home is an off grid, renovated donkey stable, own wood, own water, solar electric. 3 gas bottles a year. Originally from UK , I've been here since 2015 full time.
A bit like you, my dogs ( rescues) come first. I’m living in a leaky old caravan because there are zero houses to rent in Australia that permit dogs and are affordable.
@@1Waarheidgood job then my Portuguese farm cost €25000 and I paid for it with the sale of my UK narrowboat. WIth no rent/mortgage, Portugal is way cheaper than the UK and much safer and sunnier. I love living here, would never go back to the UK
Hi, I 'm thinking of having a short break and love❤ to visit Portugal, do you have any recommendations on where to stay? That is reasonable? I' m woman in my fifty?
If you plan your trip for the winter months, from end November to May, all the accommodation prices will be lower, with less crowds. Or if you can get a Youth Hosteling Card where you are (very cheap and for everyone) you can then use it to stay in any of the many youth hostels in Portugal at really LOW PRICES. They have single rooms with private bathrooms, as well as shared rooms and kitchens. And you can easily move from one area to another, as there are hostels all over Portugal, good facilities, clean and modern, almost empty during school terms. Look up: Pousadas de Juventude Portugal, them change the language to English on top of page and have a look how good they are. All you need is a International Youth Hostel card from your country of residence, you cannot get it in Portugal if you are not resident here. Enjoy!
Maybe you should have your landlord check the radiators, since their lukewarm, I would think they should be warmer, your a great pet parent, to make sure your dogs live better than you do, you can see their loved! ❤️ 🐶🐕

I have been looking for a house for rent in Portugal, for me, my small dog and 3 cats. I could not find anything for a decent price, passed the spanish border and asked in the only bar of the first village I saw if there was a house for rent. And yes : I rent a tiny old house in the village, with patio for my animals, 165€, plus electricity and water. The house has good energy, nice surroundings for walks, but horrible mentality. As for now I stay here because of the low rent, but I would prefer going back to Portugal, in the region of Fundão.

However I’d forgotten I’d taken a bad fall , while carrying endless boxes … I had a bad black eye and side of head … I’d just rescued a very scared wee dog and I was moving so car a mess They took one look at the state of me , the dog and the state of the car…. They decided I needed woman’s rescue in CB …. So not an arrest …. But very thoughtful gesture …. But I need to learn Portuguese !,, 🙏☘️😘
Hello, i was wondering if you found a place to buy. You looking for a 3 month roommate? From US. Lived in the Azores for a while and relearning Portuguese. We could help each other. Just me and my suitcase. Can't use US linens there bc the bed sizes are different! We can DM if you like. I follow a lot of ppl you know.
I paid 450€, plus electricity, gas and water in the region of Alcobaça. My 2 small dogs and 3 cats were allowed inside. But the landlady kicked me out because I did not want to spray her fruitgarden with roundup...
One thing worth considering dont keep wood piles near the house it attracts mice and rats. keep it in a wood store away from the house. and grow mint around it.
That's a way too much to pay per a month in country where the income is twice lower than in the UK. So I'd rather stay in the UK, the weather is not as bad as you might think, especially now the summer season is on the way with all the events and parties....
Are you kidding?! The UK is an absolute rip off for everything. My electric has tripled from £44 per month to £130. Council tax £200 pcm.....just to have bins collected! Diesel £1.60 a litre & so far, 7 months of rain and grey skies. I'd rather live in Portugal!
New subscriber here.. Is there a reason you are staying around the Braga area. It’s very expensive compared to central Portugal which offers beautiful scenery and a peaceful way of life and seemingly tremendous value..
Thanks for subscribing to the channel. Nice to have you here 😊. Of my three and a half years in Portugal most of it has been in Central. I haven't found it to be cheaper - but maybe you are referring to buying. Also I could not find a single place available to rent in the areas I was looking!
thanks for the unnasty people here think people from oversees putting up the prices for rental and house prices and the Portugues people cant afford it all the owners are Portuguese i don't understand
People play that same old stuck record in every county, including my home country! There's always something to cause division amongst people and take the spotlight away from the real problem and culprits.
I thought Portugal had nice weather year round? How did you find your place. 3BD would be ideal for that price. I am really ready to move out of the USA if the idiot from Florida is reelected. Thanks for sharing, that sounds good for the Algarve. Nice landlord :)
Ahhh how horrible. Your welfare is important too! I hope things get better for you. Your dogs are lucky to have you 🤗
To buy would it not be cheaper? I pay as much as you do and it’s mine
As I explained I needed to find somewhere asap. You couldn't buy a place in that timescale.
The bank is the owner of the house until you payed off your loan.
@@Solo50plus Is there tax to pay as a renter in Portugal?
@@1Waarheidgood job then my Portuguese farm cost €25000 and I paid for it with the sale of my UK narrowboat. WIth no rent/mortgage, Portugal is way cheaper than the UK and much safer and sunnier. I love living here, would never go back to the UK
@@bonnroberts1722 What kind of visa are you on? Im resident in Sweden, but since Brexit, moving elsewhere in the EU is back to square one.
Hi, I 'm thinking of having a short break and love❤ to visit Portugal, do you have any recommendations on where to stay? That is reasonable? I' m woman in my fifty?
Depends what sort of break you want and where. It's a vast and varied country :)
Enjoy!
Thank you very much. Very interesting. How did you become a house sitter? What visa did you need or did you do say 3 month bookings then back to uk?
I have 5 year residency. There´s details in the description of who I use for house sitting :)
@@Solo50plus many thanks 👍
Maybe you should have your landlord check the radiators, since their lukewarm, I would think they should be warmer, your a great pet parent, to make sure your dogs live better than you do, you can see their loved! ❤️ 🐶🐕
I am very grateful for all your videos, they are very informative for me as I am planning to move to either Spain or Portugal when I retire next year. Watching your videos gave me insight what I can expect and made it easier for me to make my decision. I live in America over 30 years now, but am from the Netherlands. Is it possible to keep in touch?
Videos can give you a little bit of insight but you really need to experience Portugal for yourself. From your email I'm glad to learn that you plan to do just that! 👍🏽
Suggest you rent first and live in several areas to get a feel of the area before you buy.
Do you have to pay IMI/council tax plesse?
No, everything I pay was listed in the video.
@@Solo50plus thank you. Maybe the property owner has to pay it ?!
how much for a decent property?
Depends on what area, what size and (most objective) what you class as decent.
Wow that's cheap!

GNR I thought we’re trying to arrest me !
However I’d forgotten I’d taken a bad fall , while carrying endless boxes … I had a bad black eye and side of head … I’d just rescued a very scared wee dog and I was moving so car a mess
They took one look at the state of me , the dog and the state of the car…. They decided I needed woman’s rescue in CB ….
So not an arrest …. But very thoughtful gesture …. But I need to learn Portuguese !,,

😳
Hello, i was wondering if you found a place to buy. You looking for a 3 month roommate? From US. Lived in the Azores for a while and relearning Portuguese. We could help each other. Just me and my suitcase. Can't use US linens there bc the bed sizes are different! We can DM if you like. I follow a lot of ppl you know.
I haven't been looking! I have someone staying in June for a month.
I paid 450€, plus electricity, gas and water in the region of Alcobaça. My 2 small dogs and 3 cats were allowed inside. But the landlady kicked me out because I did not want to spray her fruitgarden with roundup...
Oh dear that's unfortunate 🙁
One thing worth considering dont keep wood piles near the house it attracts mice and rats. keep it in a wood store away from the house. and grow mint around it.
The wood was kept in a wood shed.
I know EXACTLY what the weather is like in the UK. Lived there for 52 years!
You got your phone sorted then, where is here! middle, top bottom,
Wow you do have some catching up to do! I'm in Vila Verde Braga
Are you still nomadic? Or are you looking to become permanent in Portugal?
I've always been permanent in Portugal.
The house prices are rising due to foreign interest. And Central Portugal is not easy to get around if you are dependent on public transport.
👍🏼
Tell us what/where you really want, so we can help manifest that.
☺️Don't think it quite works like that!
Enjoy your tea. And get yourself a bit of land and but a tent / caravan. Take care.
Missed the part when I became a Gypsy and said said good bye to civilised living!
Are you a resident of Portugal?
Yes I have 5 year residency
spottuh tae?
?
I thought you called Terry “Harry.” So then I thought his blanket should be called “Megan!”😁. You are so lovely.
😂
Mine is available if you know anyone looking to rent
I know many people looking to rent. You need to email me!!
I am looking! Where are you based please?
thanks for the unnasty people here think people from oversees putting up the prices for rental and house prices and the Portugues people cant afford it all the owners are Portuguese i don't understand
People play that same old stuck record in every county, including my home country! There's always something to cause division amongst people and take the spotlight away from the real problem and culprits.
Wow, 300 and 400 euros for an apartment is cheap even by latinamerican standards!!
Great Informative Video and pleased Doggies are doing well, beautiful fur babies. 🥰🦮🐕🦺
I thought Portugal had nice weather year round? How did you find your place. 3BD would be ideal for that price. I am really ready to move out of the USA if the idiot from Florida is reelected. I love dogs. You ever looking for a roommate to share cost I could be a wonderful roommate. I had to find a house in four days myself. I think you got a super bargain.
Not at all, they have winter!! 🥶Check out this how cold it was in this video... th-cam.com/video/ZQAAvrHPdJQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZSn8UggJjWxTphag
And the year before in Viseu we had -5°C at night.
Very expensive..!!!
