Will be checking this one out. Wasn't enthused with all the extra fees Phoenix was charging. Their splicing just seems to lower my liquidity when I make a big withdraw to an on-chain address then charge me more in sats if I deposit more BTC since splicing adds more liquidity. If swaps are the way to go and are custodial, think this is the route for me.

Hey, Ian did you read the BlackRock report where they say that the 21 million btc cap is not guaranteed? They are trying to co-opt developers and investing heavily in miners to gain control of the network.

I don't understand why developers are so eager to change Bitcoin? If you're being honest with yourself you know it's impossible for 8 billion people to transact on the base layer neither that is necessary. Often these proposals are buggy and scammy or bring more problems to be fixed later. We are better off wait till there is real market demand and not just pushing crazy stupid ideas on users who don't need them. Bitcoin works fine there no rush to change anything, and yes 8 billion people can use it as is today, they may not be all using on-chain but neither they want to. All my family prefer non-custodial because it's less risky than losing it all.

It's annoying that you have to create an invoice and specify an amount of sats, if you want to receive funds. Sometimes you just want to be able to give someone your lightning address and tell them to give them as much as they think is appropriate. Isn't there any wallet that allows just that?

I totally agree with this. We would need to upgrade bitcoin so it can make transaction size smaller, meaning we need to fit more transaction for the same 1MB blocksize. I have to agree segwit is definitely a gamechanger into how we make the data size of transaction smaller. I'm really looking forward to how we can capitalize on taproot (we definitely need a few softforks to fully take advantage of taproot). I don't want bitcoin to be just another financial asset for rich people to invest, and only leave the very rich people to be able to hold bitcoin in a non-custodial manner, and the rest of the world population are holding bitcoin through banks/ETF etc. I think if we even improve 4x the transaction throughput while keeping bitcoin at 1MB blocksize, it would be a gamechanger for the future adoption of bitcoin for the plebs in a non-custodial manner.

I was really interessted until I found out I have to share my geo location. A database with the geolocations of bitcoiner is a honeypot for sure. Privacy wise for a privacy oriented core community maybe not the best concept.

Thanks Ian. Built my Pi4 using your video. Would upgrading to Pi5 be worthwhile? I only run BTC core on mine. I also only have 1T SSD so thinking it may be worthwhile to double that which will mean a complete couple of days downloading.

For the second signature, the second address (friend's address) must upload the PSBT file that I send to him? that is an unsatisfactory solution for me, I find it impractical to export the file and send it to the other device. Is it possible to confirm the second signature without having a PBST file? If those wallets are shared, then the unsigned transaction should be visible there, or am I wrong?

I see no reason to burn coal to create a digital ledger system that mostly is just used for scamming anyways. I don't know a single productive person, that actually get's things done in life, that is hyped on btc. Just my thoughts. There is a weird common theme of people hating the government and USA institutional systems and also loving btc, which is hilarious imo.

The funny thing is, bsv never changed from the original Genesis block headers or white paper description of the protocol. Yeah, now BTC has dug itself in its own pit by claiming to be the real Bitcoin even after they added segwit and taproot. Consensus is not voting. It's simply what is described in the white paper and what proof of work solves. Small blockers think that they won the war because their coin went up in price but large blockers won because they have low transaction fees.

Plus there's the power requirement that is not addressed it seems if everyone went on board that's a lot of power being consumed just for a monetary system, yeah?

It is fine for Bitcoin to be a store of value and not an everyday currency for small purchases. Being a store of value is more important. Better to be slower and more secure. It allows you to more directly own and store your capital long term in a way that is safe without it getting melted by inflation with all the benefits of being digital over physical. Even if its not used for small every day purchases, its still far easier to take and use around the globe than a physical store of value.

Ministry of Nodes is a very good option as well. It uses Linux, which might turn some people off, but if you want to learn something new, is not that hard following the channel's 2024 videos.
