    Hey Jake, when did you arrive in Japan and what was the date on your visa for entry in japan? I got my student visa and it says that I can enter anytime starting from 23 August. I want to arrive in Tokyo on 10 Sep and go to Fukuoka on 18 Sep. Can immigration deny entry at Tokyo because I come too early even though it is allowed by the visa? I can show reservations for the 1 week hotel stay in Tokyo, if needed? I will check into my Uni dorm on 18th Sep.

    Thank you so much for the video. Quick question: If we pass the secondary screening, will they also give us questions about math/physics/chem outside personal questions? Because I'm scared that I couldn't answer it.. (for engineering program)

      Fortunately, no subject related questions are asked! Just make sure you know what you wrote in your personal statement and what your motivations are and you'll be fine! Of course, this may change over the years, but I imagine the interview process will likely not change much. Best of luck to you!!

      @JakeyInJapan 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It makes me happy that I am able to help! Thank you so much for watching and supporting my videos! The weather is pretty interesting to be honest. The heat is super hot and the cold is super cold! I feel like I start sweating just thinking about going outside in the summer haha! The winter is a biting cold, so be careful to wear stuff that will block the wind. The wind in Fukuoka seems to always be absurdly strong. One of the best things I bought was heat tech undergarments from Uniqlo, so I would absolutely recommend either bringing some with you or buying some there for the winter. Also, another thing is that Japanese people don't really wear shorts, so if you're looking to fit in, make sure to bring lots of pants lol! Also, in the summer, shirts that can help wick sweat are a huge help. Copious amounts of sweat are practically inevitable, so make sure to prepare for that. Gatsby (or any other brand) wipes are my favorite thing for sweat. They're great to help you cool down, and they stop you from sweating for a few minutes too! Best of luck braving the elements there, and let me know if you have any more questions!!

    Hey Jake, how is it in terms of study pressure at kyushu? Do you have to be attending every single class or are you able to go away for a week? I want to go back home with christmas but probably will have classes to late december

    • @JakeyInJapan
      @JakeyInJapan 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You definitely will have a strict attendance policy, but so long as you attend your classes until Christmas and let your professor know before you leave, you won't have a problem! I actually did the same thing, leaving halfway through one of my classes to go to the airport to go home for Christmas! One of my classes actually agreed to have class on zoom so I could attend from the US. It was a Japanese language course, so we had a lot of flexibility with it. I did have to miss others, though. Depending on which courses you'll be missing, your experience may vary. A few absences are more than okay, though! I think three is generally the limit

      Hello! Yes, many many people, both Japanese and international students, have part-time jobs! The pay is roughly 1000 yen per hour, and I think it is quite simple to get a job as well! As for if it is enough, I would say probably so! The biggest expense for me is food, and I also made a video on how to save money on that too! As I have been over here, I have gotten better at saving/budgeting. I think you would be able to do the same and live decently off of your part-time wages!

      There are plenty of teaching jobs you can take where you don't need any Japanese at all! You will mostly teach younger kids, but if you're okay with that, then I think it's a great opportunity! Many many people have part time jobs in addition to clubs, but it will make you extremely busy, so think about whether that's something you're okay with. Honestly, the engineering courses aren't so bad until you get to exam week. You don't have much (if any) homework, so you have a crazy exam at the end of each quarter. I was this close to pressing unsubscribe after seeing the disrespect for the sandwich, but the telport transition kept me.

      I promise the sandwich was treated with respect; it's just tasty to try them all at once 😂😂 Glad you're sticking around, though! I'll keep up the teleportation magic to keep you here

    Feels bad man... Make my heart sank for you. I guess it makes sense that international students cannot integrate well in the clubs.

      Thanks, man, I appreciate that. It definitely was a difficult experience at the time, but it's the unfortunate reality of the difficulty of being integrated with Japanese culture, even at such a large international school. Alas, I was able to learn a lot from those experiences, so I am grateful to have gone through them :)

    How good is your Japanese nowadays? Did you take any language classes at Kyudai?

    • @JakeyInJapan
      @JakeyInJapan หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd like to say my Japanese is pretty okay! I am nowhere near native, but I can handle most conversations or situations. Also, my girlfriend doesn't speak English, so I have gotten WAY better at Japanese pretty quickly because of her! I took some language classes last semester, but I felt like I got more out of studying on my own. The classes had a LOT of homework, so that was really time-consuming

    Damn, they did you dirty with the football one :/ Really not fair considering you gave it your all. Good on you for not letting that affect you much! But i feel like it is one of the negatives of Japan that's really worth thinking about. I've experienced the same. That no matter how much Japanese you learn, or however much culture you take part in, you'll always feel like an outsider to them. Sure there are definitely people who'll accept you and can form really deep friendships with, but most of the time you just gotta be okay with not being fully integrated with the people. I don't know, it's not something you can do much about. You just gotta stick around until you DO become close with some Japanese people, or just hang around with the international folk.Most of the international kids I know mostly hang around with people from their own country/other countries, and only have a few Japanese people as friends. That's one of the things that make me think twice about uni in Japan. I don't know, it's complicated. What do you think?

    • @JakeyInJapan
      @JakeyInJapan หลายเดือนก่อน

      Man, I couldn't agree more. I feel like the international students are almost treated as a commodities sometimes. We aren't just students to them, we're INTERNATIONAL students! We tend to stick together as well, and most Japanese friends that folks make are friends, sure, but you can never get truly close to them. It's something I've talked with my girlfriend about. Of course, she is completely different and fully embraces every part of who I am, but I have absolutely expressed my concerns about it. My schools in the US have always been super diverse, so people of different races or backgrounds are so normal to me, I sometimes don't even realize until I actually think about it. In Japan, though, it's impossible. I am constantly thinking of myself not as a person, but as a foreigner. The people in the south, i.e. Fukuoka, are much more accepting, but there will always be that distance in my opinion. It'll always be foreigners and natives.
