Hello! If you have watched any of my videos, I wanted to say thank you for listening! It truly means a lot to me! I am a very amateur pianist, but I feel that music is the best way to express myself.

Moments Musicaux Op. 94 No. 4 C Sharp Minor (D 780) - Franz Schubert

Hi. It's been a while. Just a personal note, this summer and fall haven't been the easiest in terms of my personal life and also my health. I am able to return to practicing regularly for the first time in a couple months. It might be a while until I post something again. Schubert offers so many reflective moments. A swirling tempestuous opening, interrupted by a stately syncopated dance, retur...

Chopin Op. 48 No. 1 - Nocturne in C minor

Opus 48 Number 1, Nocturne in C minor by Frederic Chopin. This is such a monster of a nocturne, but it is my favorite of the Chopin Nocturne's. The final section is especially difficult. "Doppio movimento" 😳😅 (WARNING: Not note perfect, and may not be played at the tempo you prefer!)

Thank you so much!
Who is the performer, please? Is it K.B.? It's interesting to see music by Edgar Barratt appear here, because this music recalls an earlier time of my life when I was frequently going to used book-shops that sold second-hand sheet music, and I would go in and look through it all, and buy anything that looked interesting, and Edgar Barratt was one of many, many composers whose music I got to know in this way. Most of these composers are long-forgotten, but I think they deserve to be remembered, even if they might seem to be second- or even third-tier composers, and I am glad that the Internet is proving to be perhaps the only way that these composers' music can be brought back again. There can never be too much music in the world, and there's room not only for the greats, but also the myriad of perhaps lesser composers who nevertheless have a lot of music to offer of considerable charm and colour.
Hi! It’s me performing. I agree there should be more exposure for these lesser known composers! I liked the Barratt pieces I was finding on IMSLP, but I haven’t had time to go back really try out the other pieces yet. The two fairytales set was my favorite. Both sets felt so evocative of a time and place, fantastic or otherwise. And they all fit really well under the hands. I’m glad you liked the video!
Great job! ⭐️
Thank you!
What a very lovely and elegant performance!! This is very much to please Mr. Beethoven 🥰
Thank you friend! Beethoven has such a way! To bring together 11 short unrelated pieces, and the one that sounds so much like an end as the final bagatelle!
Beautiful 🥲
Thank you friend! Big ups! 😎
Love this !
Sounds wonderful! Great playing🎶
This is amazing. Absolutely loved it. You did phenomenal work with this.
You’re awesome, my dear friend!! And you played this moment musically so wonderfully!!! Love your rendition!!! 🤩🤩 Big bravo 👏🏻 I hope you’re doing fine and wish you good health!
Impressive playing as always! Enjoyed this one very much.
You make the beauty in this piece come out! I actually initially dismissed this as just another simple romance, but somehow find myself coming back to this video-I guess the melody is too memorable, as well as some of the inner sounds. As a pianist myself, I appreciate your playing, and also wanted to offer my feedback on what I heard. At some places (e.g. 1:04, 1:14) it sounds like you clip the melody, unintentionally; there is a small gap. If you worked on your pedaling there, the melody could sound more continuous and singing. I love how you play the succession of the chords and rolling of the LH chord at 2:16, as well as your use of rubato throughout. Thank you for this rendition!
Thank you for the constructive feedback!
What a wonderful performance of this piece!✨I LOVE CHOPIN💕put👍👍
Thank you so much!😊I love Chopin too!
Wow, this was extremely beautiful! I didn’t know this piece, it’s so romantic, what a touching melody! Love your interpretation 🥰
Thank you so much friend for your kind words and support!😊 I did not know it either, but what a little treasure to find!
Old school phrasing !!!!!.
0:31 that's an F# not a Gb, the composer doesn't know what he's doing.
Why do you think it should be an F#? In terms of the chord, and the note resolving down in the following measure, the Gb is the proper note to use. Otherwise you would have an F# followed by an F with a courtesy natural sign which would be awkward.
@@KB_piano because you hear it as an F#. It's poorly harmonized, and it's perfectly natural(no pun intended) to resolve a sharpened note downward. Enharmonic equivalence is a myth
@@KB_piano The harmony in question is a V7/V which is spelled A-flat, C, E-flat, G-flat, which then resolves as expected to a V chord. You did it right. Please ignore that dimwit.
A lovely floaty piece evocative of a summer's evening by the sea played with such a delicate touch. Amazing given that you say you are not an advanced pianist. Masterful playing.
Thank you so much! That is a lovely mental image for this piece! I could not think of one myself!😅 While I did study music for a while, and have worked on advanced repertoire, I just do this as a hobby now, and I consider myself amateur in that regard! Thank you so much for the kind words!😊
@@KB_piano Oh you're very welcome! 🙂
Congrats! You play so well, thank you for uploading, I didn't knew Blas María de Colomer!
Thank you so much! That’s very kind of you to say!😊 Glad you liked it!
Bello!! Qual è il livello di difficolta, a quale anno di studio del pianoforte è possibile impararla?
If I had to guess I would place this in late intermediate/early advance repertoire. What year depends on the student I suppose. This took me a few practice sessions to learn, I didn’t find it difficult. Good for practicing expression. Thanks for listening!
So tender...
Thank you!
My favorite Nocturne as well 🤩 Yes, the final section is the most difficult one - you played just wonderfully!! 👏🏻 Big bravo!!
Thank you so much for the kind words!!😊 I find there is just so much emotion in this nocturne, and imo has the most interesting “chorale” section of his nocturnes that have the chorales in the middle.
@@KB_piano very true!
1:18 - 2:00 just watching this segment gives me hand cramps. lol Great playing though!
Stuff like that is a lot easier than it looks!😅 what I found hard about this were those little quick loud outbursts in the first part. (0:12, 0:21, etc.) Thank you!
@@KB_piano I'll take your word for it. 🤣 I'm not sure if that has a technical term, but I do like when there's that continuous ascending/descending. I always thought it sounds really cool. I bet those quick transitions have to be extremely hard too. Lot's of control/practice
The continuous ascending/descending, those are called arpeggios. And yes the quick transitions take a lot of control and energy!
@@KB_piano Ah arpreggios. Very cool. What would you say is your favorite composer/piano piece to play? I've been trying to learn how to play Moonlight Sonata and Nocturne Op. 9, No. 2. Those are great pieces of music. I actually discovered Chopin from Muse sampling his song. 😂
That’s a tough question to answer! The composers I’ve enjoyed playing the most have been Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Philip Glass. I don’t think I have a favorite piece, though. Maybe the most fun piece I played was Ballade number 3 by Chopin. Those are challenging pieces! Especially the third movement of the moonlight sonata is intense. I only know maybe one or two Muse songs. Thanks Guitar Hero😂 That’s cool they sampled Chopin! I think it’s great when modern artists can introduce more people to classical music!
What a great piece of music
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Yes
Very pretty! New sub from me! 🙌

Can you do Coronach, also by Barratt?
Hi! Thanks for watching! I was having a hard time deciding what to record next. I’ll check this one out; thanks for the suggestion!
Wonderful composition, nicely done!
Thank you so much! It’s a lovely little piece!

Très jolie pièce
Merci beaucoup. C'est une valse très charmante!

Sounds gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this beautiful Berceuse ✨
Thank you so much for listening!
So short? No development …
Yes it is. Most of the preludes in that set are very brief. The preludes in the second set seem to be a little longer. I might go back to them in the future and see if I want to finish book 1 and put them in 1 video. Although, the score on IMSLP is missing a prelude in book 1, so only 11 out of 12 preludes! Wonder what happened to that missing prelude…
Do you have a link to the pdf island cave?

Hi! I really liked them too! Thank you so much! I am trying to find more time for practicing and recording, and I made it a new years goal to upload more. Piano is a passion and hobby for me, and sometimes it’s difficult to find the time, but I am resolved to give it more focus and attention!
Очаровательно

Great! How much pedal to use in these?
It’s been a while since I recorded some of these so it’s hard to say. On this prelude there are no pedal indications so I just tried to use it judiciously, and probably no more than depressing the pedal slightly less than half way. I definitely am guilty of pedaling when I’m not supposed to now and then, at least if I think it sounds better that way!😅Thank you so much!
@@KB_piano thank you
I think these preludes are very interesting, musically speaking. Thanks, very much !
I agree! I like the miniature forms and economy of composition. Thank you!
What level of playing would this piece be marked as to play and is this difficult? Also do you know how to get the pdf for the sheet music
I would put this piece in the intermediate category. I didn’t find it difficult to play. You can find the PDF here: imslp.org/wiki/24_Préludes_mélodiques_(Colomer%2C_Blas_María_de)
