100% Agreed......................after decades of 'collecting' synths, I now restrict myself to 2 synths, and a couple of fx........................Loving the satisfaction I get from knowing a piece of gear so fully (feel free to check my channel)......................Glad you're offering this perspective, so many people get stuck in the G.A.S. mode.......

Cool, I'll check back in......on my channel, you'll find a few different playlists: some Access Virus tutorial videos, and 'Evidence of Noise', videos where I show video/photos and talk about my work with some of the better known acts I've worked/toured with..............

I'm in! Been feeling this way for quite some time now but recently started selling off non-essential tools.
Also, finally delving deep into the Octatrack..into the things I've never bothered to learn..has shown me once again just how fun one box with headphones can be.
    Best wishes 🤖

True but you know you have enough already and time would be better spent mastering your craft and the gear you already have. Commit and do it and watch it pay you dividends in 2024

We also have VST acquisition syndrome. VAS is less expensive, but it also adds up. I appreciate your philosophy to become a master of the few instruments we should have. If you have a Novation Peak and perhaps splurge on an Iridium b-stock, or similar combination, you should be all set. It will take plenty of time to master these powerhouses. We could buy a good keyboard and save on buying only desktop synthesizers. Perhaps we should make a conscious decision to only subscribe to one provider, such a UVI and their fabulous Falcon synth, and have plenty of sounds to play with. Do we also need multiple DAWs? Can we be satisfied with having only one DAW, such as Bitwig and have a super modulation powerhouse. So, yes, clever and hard decisions need to be made to fight the never ending onslaught of marketing and limited time offers. Thanks for sharing.

Well said, and yes I would agree and include VST in this!
I am pretty sure I have VST that I have either never used or hardly ever used.
Going to make a list of all my VST to visualize all I have and need to learn as well.
Pick some of those and master them as well (Do I really need 30 compressors??) :-)

@@_justin_joe This is such a good idea. I am going to create a master list in my DAW and see what I have. I am sure I have way too many. Looking forward to your next video and learning whether buying the Push 3 was a good decision. I am fighting GAS and I am sticking to my Push 2 and not upgrading to live 12.

    • @_justin_joe
      @_justin_joe  ปีที่แล้ว

@@dr.gregoryf.maassen2637 In light of what we are talking about regarding GAS I would say that upgrading to Push 3 would not be a reccomendation I would give anyone. Not that I dont think it is great bit of kit and its going to be better and better, but it was another time I fell hard into GAS and imo besides stand alone, the updates were not so massive that I would "push" someone into buying it lol
That being said there will be Push 3 videos coming since its part of what I have already and will be focusing on learning this next year.

Nice one, I'm going to try too! I know I have enough gear (with hardly any overlap). The biggest thing for me is a lack of effects. The only pedal I have is a Microcosm and I keep looking at things like Blooper/Habit but they're mono and I don't like that. The Octatrack can definitely do the sample mangling but there's something about a purpose built pedal that's quick and satisfying. (Or I'm just making excuses for myself! haha).
Aside, my secondary goal is to finish the damn ideas instead of starting a new one!

    • @_justin_joe

      That’s awesome
      Microcosm is amazing
Have you tried using the Octatrack as an effects processor? It’s amazing
Check out EZbots template with 64 prebuilt effects

@@_justin_joe haven’t got to try his template yet as I’m not so much looking for fx for performing but rather during the writing/idea creation phase. You know those happy accident boxes 😁

@@_justin_joe Admittedly I'm not in a major production phase of my life right now, I'm focusing on other things like coding. But that being said, I have never been as productive as when I had 1 (One) synthesizer, a basic midi controller, and a copy of ableton live. I have a lot of stuff now and I hope to start aquiring again soon, but as far as creativity goes, gear is important but mindset is more important!

@@ar_xiv It is certainly not just limited to music equipment. I think lots of areas of life we can get sucked into shinny objects.
Reading your comment reminded me about my most recent EP that is coming out next month was written, produced on a laptop with nothing else while I was in the hospital for 2 months when my daughter was born. Mixed down on some old Samsung ear buds & Apple earbuds and they car checked for reference. The label was none the wiser and signed all 3 tracks with no revisions.
