From Moralism, Emotionalism & The Prosperity "Gospel" to the True Gospel...My Testimony
มุมมอง 947หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the story of how I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour - of how I became a Christian. My journey as a Christian is ongoing. I've told my testimony many times on the internet, but always stopped at a certain point that happened almost five years ago. I see now that the events of the past couple of years have been immensely significant and need to be included in my testimony....

When you go through a trial, the sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which you lay your head. Charles Spurgeon
Thank you so much. I find your testimony so inspiring. Salvation is such a gift and God is so gracious to us. My prayer for you is Ephesians 3:18.
Happy Christmas Lydia🎇
You should have a look at the Psalm devotional by Dane Ortlund: In the Lord I Take Refuge. The audio is also available on Spotify and YT.
What?!! I didn’t know that existed! Consider it added to my TBR and Spotify library. Thank you 😊
Best video on Christian TBR I've seen! An older woman, new in my walk. PTL! Thank you🙏
Goodness me this encouraged me so much - thank you for commenting! And praise the Lord indeed!! ☺️
The Hobbit is an easier read than LotR, so it might be a good place to start
Ooo okay thank you!!
Loving this video! PS I still love Keeping the Heart but I might have a new fave of his 😅
LotR definitely has Christian themes and elements. Tolkien was Catholic, but, for the most part, there's little in LotR that most Christians would object to. I might suggest reading them as a audiobooks, if you're into those, since that might help with the density of the writing. The character arcs are, for the most part, pretty subtle, but, once you see the arcs, they're beautiful.
Yeah, when you finish Wingfeather book two, you might feel the drive to keep going. 😂😂
This looks like such a wonderful opportunity for gathering in fellowship! Love to see how people are being blessed by books and conventions like these. And the shots of the countryside are stunningly beautiful!!
Woo! Fight hustle culture! These look like a good two books to have read, and thank you for encouraging us all to slow down when culture is telling us the opposite. Have you read From the Garden to the City? It's a Christian book by John Dyer about where technology fits, biblically, into God's story of redemption for the world, and based on your thoughts on Reinke's book, I think you might find it interesting. Tech seems to be taking up more and more space in the world, I think it's so important for Christians to address it, and I'm glad to see books like these being written. :D It's always great watching you talk about books! Feeling blessed and encouraged by watching your content. God bless <33
Stunning❤
Absolutely ❤️
I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on loads of these! Some absolutely fantastic books on this list. The dreamkeeper saga is on my TBR for 2025 too (although I plan on reading all 5 once the final one is published). Desperate for you to finish the entire Wingfeather saga too!
It makes me so excited that you’ve read/recommended these to me - and for the ensuing chats!!
Thanks so much for all the recommendations. I’m going through my shelves and may purchase a few before years end to compile my 2025 TBR. Happy New Year🎉
Eee this makes me so happy!! Right back at you and God Bless you ☺️
Wow Milton Vincent was my former pastor.
Oh my goodness!
have you ever read the pilgrim's progress. it's a pretty good book
You know, it’s been on my shelf for two years - I’ve not read it yet but will hopefully get round to it soon!
Reading is such an amazing way to learn and be grown in God's purposes . I really enjoy developing as I read and meditate on God through what I am reading . I remember reading all of the Narnia books and loving them all . I would currently recommend a book called Freedom Tools by Andy Reese and Jennifer Barnett , that I have been reading to understand how to minister to one another through hurts and pains but also having the practical tools to deal with it in daily life and so far I'm enjoying that and I would recommend that. Additionally , I am thinking of going to Keswick this summer , so would love to know how you found it and what to expect from it , seems such a great week to get stuck into the Bible with other Christians.
Thanks for the recommendation and encouraging comment!! So great about Keswick - I’ve got 3 vlogs on it now so feel free to have a watch if you want a feel of it (and haven’t already watched haha) 😊
Thank you so much again, Lydia! That's such a good idea to have a list of books you want to read in the coming year, you have certainly inspired me to do that too! (Also, Sense and Sensibility is an amazing book and it really has some good Christian values, but I won't spoil anything haha! And of course the Narnia books are amazing, as usual!) I really love your videos, they are a bright light in this dark world!
This is so encouraging and so kind of you to write!! Thank you! I’m more excited to read Sense and Sensibility now ☺️
....God enters inside of my body after saying the Holy Rosary over one million times. Mary gave God permission to save me....
CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎉🎉 I know I'm late to this party, I'm so so excited about all you have accomplished and how God is using your gifts. God willing, I look forward to seeing your published novel! <3
This is so encouraging, thank you from the bottom of my heart 💛
With the ever changing situation in the Middle East, I think I may need to re-read Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus this year! And one of his other works, "No God but one - Allah or Jesus". By the way Lydia, at the moment I'm reading Jerusalem: The biography by Simon Sebag Montefiore. It's so accessibly written, I think. And i'm only 200 odd pages in, but I really want to read more about Jerusalem's history. It's helping me string together all the history that is in Scripture in relation to Jerusalem 🙂 P.S. It's been too long since i've commented on one of your videos! God bless you Lydia 😊
I always love your comments - so insightful and encouraging!!
Dragon and the Stone was pretty good, too!
Green Ember has such Wingfeather vibes. Love it.
Ahh really?!
Wingfeather!!!
Thank you, Lydia! Bless you!
Ah you’re so welcome! God Bless you!
Still have to finish reading "Knowing God", I stopped halfway a couple of years ago. Thanks for reminding me.
Ah I love that! You’re welcome ☺️
The best book I've read this year is The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The Oxford world's classics edition was a great translation with Commentary and notes to help... Truly a Masterpiece.
You’re the second person to say this!! I might have to read it!
I haven’t been on Instagram or threads in over a month. Only reason why I’ve been on facebook was because it was my birthday and people were posting on my page. Other than that I basically just use Snapchat and messenger.
That’s great that you’re thinking about it!
Yea interesting video and channel. Would you say it's difficult to be a Christian and do a creative writing degree? It just seems like you've had to read a lot of material that you'd never encourage a believer to read, especially a new believer. That one with the Anglican condoning assisted dying... I do think you're right that there tends to be a lot of spirituality and pseudo-Christianity in literary fiction but not many depictions of a reasonable Christian worldview, discipleship, practical biblical Christianity etc.
@@SamOwenI thanks for this comment, super encouraging and interesting. Yes, my degree was definitely challenging because lots of the material was extremely secular. I made sure to go into each book carefully, praying for a guarded heart, and would always try to read analytically - if a book was extremely anti-Christian, I’d put it down. Else I’d critique it. And yes you’re right!! That’s such a good way of putting it!
Laughed out loud as you placed fellowship of the ring 😂😂😂
@@nataliewilson1170 I didn’t know if anyone would notice!!! It feels illegal 😩😩
I also want to encourage everyone but especially the younger Christians whether spiritual or chronically to study theology rather than passively receive it. I feel young people either turn from the faith or are not actively practicing because they are not intellectually and emotionally invested in the reality of their faith thus how it affects every area of life.
@@joshuadaniels4034 absolutely
Hey Lydia I’m concerned you didn’t touch enough grass this year. For those wondering TULIP is acronym containing the Calvinist’s view on the order of salvation in response to the five points of Arminianism. T- total depravity U- unconditional election L limited atonement or particular atonement I- irresistible grace- P- perseverance of the saint. These all are to be understood within the framework of God’s ultimate sovereignty over all things
@@joshuadaniels4034 I actually touched a surprising amount of grass, I think audiobooks helped with that haha. Thanks for this!
i respect your opinion and i do have some thoughts, but i want to address some of the comments first. 1. taylor swift is not a witch 😭 she writes catchy pop hits and thats why she has so many fans. 2. if saying goddamn is so harmful to your ears then why listen to music at all? almost every artist that i have ever heard has said goddamn in one or more of their songs 3. music and metaphors are a lot different from real life. now for the points made in the video taylor herself is a christian so i do not think she is being harmful by anything she says in her lyrics. now i am not a christian due to my own personal reasons which i will not express in the comments as it is not relevant, but i do think this is a teensy bit of an overreaction. she is a grown woman, and she's gonna write what she wants and how she wants!
@@nross07 hey! Thanks for your comment. I made this video for fellow Christians looking for guidance on what to listen to. We believe it’s important that we choose wisely! There are plenty of Christian/clean artists who make music with no swearing or sacrilegious imagery and that’s great. 😊
Lucy's read the C S Lewis book and loved it. And I adored Surprised by Jesus! What a haul!
I’m not surprised the Wilsons have read some of these!! Excited!
Thank you for sharing this, Lydia! Anxiety is a huge issue in this day and age, I think, and I've discovered I'm a worry-pot. So thank you for addressing this topic! It's so important that when we worry we turn to God and not away from Him, which is something I admit that I have learnt the hard way. I find taking time to "be still" (Psalm 46:10) at the feet of Jesus and to remind myself of His Word and promises is such a tremendous remedy for anxiety. God bless you!
Thanks for sharing this - we aren’t alone in our struggles. God Bless you!
Hi Lydia, amazing video as always! I always appreciate your transparency, it's so sobering to listen to honesty and the truths of the Gospel when everyday we are so surrounded by ideals of the world. I really relate to your testimony. I'm in my 2nd year of my degree now and I recall being younger and wishing I could rush ahead to university so I could control what I ate and no one could stop me, how incredible and beautiful it is that God found me at university and so truly saved me from a life of misery and struggle. I've just gotten back from my CU weekend away (Andy Bannister was our guest speaker!!!) and I have just been so reminded of God's love and the fruitfulness of life when you live for His glory! ❤ Have a wonderful week Lydia, thank you for sharing your testimony.
God Bless you thank you for the comment and encouragement - and your honesty too! And Andy Bannister has such wisdom, I hope you enjoyed!! ☺️
This made me weep as it reminded me about my conversion!! I relate to how you felt when you realised what the true Gospel was- that it was a great exchange, our sin put onto Him and His righteousness accredited to us! Where love and justice meet. Praise the Lord that I will see you in Heaven, worshipping the Lord for all eternity! May He keep you and bring you unspeakable levels of joy that comes with worshipping the Creator, and may He continue to grow you in the conforming to the image of Christ. Amen
Oh God Bless you!! Thanks for watching! Such biblical truth in this comment ☺️🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing your testimony it’s so beautiful
God Bless you!! Thanks for watching!
Sister, try attending Divine Liturgy. God bless you.
Don't try to lead the LORD's child astray. She clearly believes in the true Gospel as she explained in the video. EO does not preach the same Gospel.
@@ReformedChristianGirl My love, I am not a demon haha. Please do not rebuke your sister as such. :) I am by no means invalidating her walk, just sharing what I've experienced from my own journey! :) The Divine Liturgy has the real presence, body, and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ and everything from our worship, to our traditions, to our practices are all scripturally, theologically, and historically based. Not only that, but we actually believe in just about the same things, we've just misunderstood each other a lot. :/ For example, EO does not preach a works-based salvation we just believe (like you all) that when we receive God's grace and the gift of the Holy Spirit we need to continually cooperate and live a Christian life, but our works do not matter either. I respect you very much because your heart is in the right place. I too was very against the EO church until God called me to join it. (And no, my sister, I was not deceived by satan.) Without fear, look into the truth that Orthodoxy contains. It's not true because it's a religion or church, it's true because our Lord Jesus Christ established it. God bless you, my sister.
@ i grew up nominally EO until I was born again . I also believe in true presence. The Reformed confessions condemn those that just believe that the Eucharist is a symbol. My view of the Eucharist is the Lutheran view, which believes that we truly receive the body of Christ, not just spiritually. The EO aren’t the only ones that believe in Christ being truly present in the Eucharist. The EO reject penal substitutionary atonement, which is the Gospel, so rejecting PSA is a false Gospel.
I have looked into both Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism and am a Protestant. I really appreciate your grace in your second comment. God Bless you.
@@lydiahoughton All good. God bless you my sister.
I just thrifted a book haul of 532 books for 88 dollars for my book giveway at applebees( 3701 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70002). I am the host there. I have given away over 3100 books for babies kids teens and adults in 10 months. Let's get this generation reading. I document the giveway on my youtube channel.❤😊
The John Piper was one of the first big book I read from him. If you’re looking for a testimonial book about the journey from Islam to Christianity I suggest Seeking Allah finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi. One of my all time favorites.
@@joshuadaniels4034 ah I love that! And Seeking Allah Finding Jesus was actually the book that kickstarted my reading journey - just incredible. So cool you’ve read it too!!
@ that book has been a great conversation starter. One time I was flying home from a work trip. The girl sitting next to me noticed the book and started asking questions about it She was Hindu. We spent most of flight talking about life and faith.
@@joshuadaniels4034oh wow!! Amazing! Praise the Lord
Enjoy the John stott one! I really like his writing style!
@@josephwalliker6162 ooooo okay!! This is exciting!
Sister, thank you for this video. Love to hear your testimony and how God has taught you truth about himself. Praise Jesus for his work of salvation! Love to hear your reflections on the prosperity gospel and suffering, and thanks be to God that he gives us himself as comfort in our suffering, and that our joy abounds in him no matter what we are experiencing. Being an MT the past few years has grown my faith and ministry so much, praying that it will do the same for you, and thanks be to him that you have this time to devote to serving him!
Thanks so much for this comment. So exciting you’re an MT too and the prayers and kind words are so appreciated!
What kind of story is it? You remind me of the Christian authors I know on Instagram and I wondered if you knew any of them.
That’s very kind - I’m not sure I do! It’s a story largely based on my own testimony 😊
