    Monteambeault has a better goals-saved above-expected stat line than Vasilevsky, Saros, Oettinger, Binnington, Sorokin, Bobrovsky, Swayman, and other #1 goalies in the league! It's easy to just look at his SV% and jump to conclusions. He's playing behind a D core full of rookies/unexperienced players + Matheson who's not the best defensive D out there and an aging Savard who often can't keep up with the play! I'm sorry but I find you extremely harsh. You put Monty behind a solid D and his numbers will look much better. Cheers.

    For any actual professional goalie, easy to say and go ahead. For the rest of us arm-chair goalies, yeah, we do have a new shiny toy challenging Monty. And I'm thrilled. Anything that improves the team, yes. I love the run we're in and haven't missed a game in life....decades. But two great games by Dobes and now this guy here, and so many fans, are suddenly all-in to come down on Monty. Hell. Again, if you're not an actual goalie, I know you feel big and entitled to act the expert here (all of you), but what you come off is as people who get off on attacking someone when they're vulnerable. Loyalty and appreciation die a quick death and now it's yeah, let's jump on this guy cause we have this new shiny toy to fixate on. Now, in 2-3 more months, let's wait and see what Dobes is in terms of consistency among other things. Granted, he won't be a new toy any more but that'll let us evaluate our TANDEM more objectively.

    • @mtlhockeytalk
      @mtlhockeytalk 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@jacquelineclement4193 The only thing I am disappointed in your comment is your claim that I am attacking Monty now that Dobes is in Montreal. I have been worried about his game since the pre-season, and I lay more blame on his goalie coach than I do the player for his lack of preparedness. But that said, Monty was NEVER supposed to be this team's number 1. And the fact he's carrying an .898 SV% is proof of just that. It's not about my experience. It' s about his actual performance to date.

    I have asked many now. I will ask you. Does Monty played bad when he has competition in the backup? I notice this. When Jake was playing well Monty wasn't. When Primeau was playing well last year Monty wasn't. Now the Habd have a probable future star goalie and I see Monty starting to panic

    • @mtlhockeytalk
      @mtlhockeytalk วันที่ผ่านมา

      @shuvmesumknowlegde It's a valid question, but I don't think that Montembault was ever scouted to be a starting goalie in the NHL and that's what scares me. His positioning has been weak, his peripheral vision is suspect and he has trouble reading the play in front of him to anticipate scoring opportunities. Technically, he is flawed. Last season, the puck were hitting him more. This year, not so much, so he seems to be struggling.

    The Monty talk is ridiculous... What about the save on Garland at the end of the second period? Tunnel vision eh? The Canucks score there and it's probably game over! The only goal that was really on him was that Lekkerimaki short-side snipe.

    • @mtlhockeytalk
      @mtlhockeytalk วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Belial87 We'll disagree on that. His rebound control let to 2 goals and the DeBrusk goal was a complete lack of situational awareness. As well, his ability to thwart cross-crease opportunities has been a problem of late, as witness in the Chicago game.

    • @mtlhockeytalk
      @mtlhockeytalk วันที่ผ่านมา

      @unrulian So the fact that he's the 3rd string on Canada's 4 Nations team is based more on last season's performance than this season. He has an .898 save percentage. 86 goals against in just 32 games. It's a legitimate concern. The reason they have won of late is more due to the resurgence of Dach & the way the players have performed than his goaltending. He hasn't stolen a single game this season, and he looks uncomfortable in goal.

    This administration has done a great job of getting high character, high talent players. Slaf, Demidov, Hutson, Fowler, Xhejaks, etc. They haven't overvalued character the way I think Bergevin did however. I liked what Gorton said in one of the behind the scenes draft videos, he spoke of the fact that all nhlers had produced somewhere along the line in their junior years, so don't fall in love with a guy who has great character but hasn't produced because chances are he isn't talented enough to make it. That plus if you watch the video from the Hutson draft they we're able to identify the importance he could have based on his analytics allowed them to make a home run pick. As an organization for they have a methodical mindset and it's obvious that the plan is working. Organizational cohesion will be key so I would like to see Geoff Molson pony up and try and retain guys like Bobrov with the organizations wealth. This is a proper rebuild.

    I always take the season by 5 games block because every team, even the excellent ones, will lose a game they should of won here and there. Fowler drafted playing on a far better NCAA team than Dobes did in Ohio and Omaha . Dobes is the first Habs goalie in history to start his rookie 1st 2 games and allowed only 1 goal over a century for the Habs and he’s the FIRST. Now everyone mentioning Dobes. Like how the Rockets protect their goalies. Had the dive into the goaltender happened in Laval the team would have all jumped the instigator regardless of overtime. The other point in Laval under the Hybrid when the puck is shot to the goaltender the players BOX the net and no one gets through to the puck

    It boggles my mind the sense of self-importance the Team Canada jr decision-makers have when it comes to their team. The constantly pick "coachable" players for this tournmanent, as coaching is the most critical aspect of their successm and even worse, at the press conference, the players they did pick were thrown under the bus. I felt bad because they were not put in a positiont succeed. What they should be doing is picking 9 of their most skilled forwards, 5 skilled defensemen, a few role players for certain situations and just let them play, The coach should just be there to guide them. This lineup could not transition with speed. Guys like Parekh, Sennecke, Reikpof, Misa, Hage, etc. would have been able to do which could have broken down the opponents defensive systems.

    Coach how's it going? is Fucale an upgrade on Primeau? Here's my take on Montembeault: He's out of shape! Look what happens when he has to start more than 5 games in a row even with days off he falls apart. Lethargy? He's never started more than 41 games in a season at any level. He drinks more than a dromedary in the Sahara! Bloated? Diabetic? No capable backup what you see is what you get. Look what happened last season after Allen left and Montembeault had to face not only contenders but play 3 times per week. Losses in bunches!

    Coach, one thing I have noticed is that the Habs have trouble when heavy teams apply an aggressive forecheck. The Habs reverse D to D with limited support for the puck. Our wingers have trouble along the wall. Often reverse back to the D. Our centre is down low as well and often covered. How do you counteract this type of pressure. 1st goal vs Caps could not get the puck out. 3rd goal Savard tries to go up the wall and the pass is picked off. Again under pressure.

    • @mtlhockeytalk
      @mtlhockeytalk หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jamessneddon9956 Puck pressure is always an important part of the game. Some teams do it better than others. In the case of the Caps, they did an okay job of it, but the Habs often forget to swing fwds in opposite directions to give them options. Like I said in the episode, anytime the puck is the D zone, players should have 5 options: 1) Pass to D partner 2) Up the strong side boards to fwd just beyond the hashes. 3) Pass to fwd swinging thru the zone 4) Stretch Pass 5) Flip to neutral zone or go hard off the glass to relieve pressure. When you repeat the same thing, teams catch on. So you need to use each of these options, along with a player's ability to skate to puck out of the zone, to keep other teams guessing. That's the real secret to get around puck pressure. Varying your decisions when clearing the zone.

    also, have to give some love to Armia. He is excellent in his own zone, i can't fault his effort level and he is making life myserable for opponents when battling for the puck. He rarely loses puck battles along the boards and he does, he is either double teamed or the opponent has to work like crazy to get a partial victory.

      @rick1042 No argument there, which I why I don't lump Armia with Dvorak as far as value to the Habs is concerned. Other than face-offs, Dvorak bring little to the table.

    One thing Patrick Laine gives the Habs that nobody else can, not even Caufield, is the capacity to score instantly. His shot is not only hard, not only accurate, but released with no warning at all. Not a bad thing considering that his center is not very good in the face off circle. On the other hand, Slafkovsky is not hitting the net enough. Too many erratic shots. Nerves? Technical issue? Is the issue caused by injury? Not sure.

      @@rick1042 With Slaf, I think he lacks confidence in his shot. In saying that, releasing the puck just a half-aecond faster would probably change that.

    I couldn't agree more with you about the gap between players. Even in the offensive zone, too many long passes that are either erratic and difficult to corral or too soft and easily intercepted. I say this all the time, without the puck, be a passing option.

    I understand the criticism of Montembeault but I think goaltending is currently a league-wide problem. Washington 3rd overall right now. Anyone thought that Charlie Lindgren was goint to be their #1? Pytro Kochetkov is Carolina' goaltender right now and he only has a 904% save percentage and they are 5th overall. Vegas is another good team, 6th overall, with Hill and Samsonov in nets, who are both in the 890% save percentages.
