    The drive from the airport into town is absolutely and thoroughly different from 1975, the last time I was in Saigon, a few days before the North assumed control (to be put it politely) of the city. I was also stationed at Tan Son Nhat AFB in 1966 and passed thru in 1965, 1968 and 1974. The road in the 1960s and 70s was two lanes in and out with not divider and barely any space between the traffic and the storefronts. I know that because a bus sideswiped me while I was riding a bike--ended up with a broken left forearm. 'The airport was also quite small and very easy to get from the passport control to the people waiting for you, just some 10-20 meters away.

    I have been viewing many videos of Battambang recently, and I see that Kampot is much quieter than Battambang, both in terms of noise of passing 2- and 4-wheel vehicles and the general ambiance. I was interested in B because my first wife's Vietnamese grandfather was a district chief under the French regime in the 1930s, and because it appeared much more laid back than Phenom Penh.

    I took the 109 orange bus you walked past early this year. Cost me 30K including a large piece of luggage. Was there anywhere to put luggage on the bus you rode on? Guess you could pay another 5K for an additional seat. I always change money at the gold shop. Best rates in town.

    • @SeekeroftheWay-qt5kj
      @SeekeroftheWay-qt5kj 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      People put their luggage in the aisle, but I have heard the conductor charges a little bit for that. The gold shop (won't name) next to Ben Thanh market has one of the best rates - as you mentioned -, but quite a few people have reported they were given the wrong notes (10,000 mixed in with 100,000 notes) which they felt was intentional, so important to count the cash in front of the teller.

    Ungrateful Hunsen forgot the day he fled Pol Pot and went to Vietnam to ask for help. Without Vietnam's help, Hunsen would not be in the position he is today. Cambodia followed the path of Pol Pot 50 years ago, listening to China's words of killing Cambodians, eliminating the neighborly relationship with Vietnam because of the illusion of benefits of the Funan Canal. Just like Nepal and other African countries fell into debt traps when China lent money to build ports, hydroelectric projects, and water diversion dams. These projects have destroyed the natural environment and people's living environment without exploiting economic benefits, leading to bankruptcy and becoming a debtor of China, so the land must be assigned for 100 years to pay. debt, politics will depend on China, other resources will be exploited and brought back to China at cheap prices. The Cambodian people will suffer soon. China benefits the most when Vietnam and Cambodia are in conflict; whichever country is weak, China will jump in immediately. The possibility of this project going bankrupt is high because in the dry season, to store water for the hydroelectric dams above, the canal can only accommodate small boats, which will surely result in a debt trap for China.
