Managing Scrupulosity
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ก.ย. 2008
Channel is primarily about OCD/Scrupulosity/Moral Scrupulosity/Religious OCD. Presented from a Roman Catholic perspective from the priest director of the newsletter Scrupulous Anonymous and the director of the pastoral ministry of helping people manage the disorder as opposed to the maintenance of the disorder. www.managescrupulosity.com. Catholic OCD: The Real Suffering (The Management Minute)
The real suffering of the scrupulous disorder is the inability to trust the authenticity of individual feelings, emotions, and sensibilities. It is a profound loss of the true self. The inability to routinely trust the feelings associated with a particular action demonstrates a real threat. The all-encompassing scrupulous experience deprives a person of the ability to trust that their feelings are informative.

Catholic OCD: St. Thomas Aquinas, One More Question (The Management Minute)
มุมมอง 1.1K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
St. Thomas asked the big questions about God, the meaning of the universe, and other big questions and mysteries and it seemed, no matter how hard he tried, that he never reached the end of the string of questions that might provide the ultimate answer. The questions he asked, despite the systematic system's promises, were not answerable. He slowly understood that a person would never be able...

Catholic OCD: The Necessity of Risk (The Management Minute)
มุมมอง 1.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Although it is true that people who do not suffer with scrupulosity are not constantly bombarded with questions, second-guessing themselves and the people around them, it would not be true to believe that there are no questions and no anxiety as part of their lived experience. The difference is found in the magnitude and the frequency of the questions about life and not necessarily in the pres...
Catholic OCD: Love God and do what you please (The Management Minute)
มุมมอง 1.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
St Alphonsus Liguori understood the power of love. He understood the freedom that love provides. The freedom to be accepted exactly as you are. He also knew that when loved a person is determined to present the good that love sees, the best of themselves. This conviction helped him to better understand his primary relationship with the Lord. It gave him the confidence to proclaim "Do what you p...
Catholic OCD: An Unequal Exchange
มุมมอง 3.1Kปีที่แล้ว
OCD demands full loyalty and attention. In return for this dedication, it will give you anxiety, guilt, shame and other emotional and spiritual challenges. It also promises you that it is honest and authentic, totally believable and worth the investment. It is a LIE. The exchange is unequal and does not lead to life.
Catholic OCD: Historical limitations and challenges to contemporary issues.
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
As people who have been created by God we have been created in time, in this time and in the place. This is our lived context; this is our present moment. This is where we work out our salvation. When we examine the historical record, even the record provided by the great saints, we must accept them in their time and place. It is unreasonable to assume that someone who lived 1000 years ago unde...

Catholic OCD: Is it mortal sin?
มุมมอง 22Kปีที่แล้ว
Is it really mortal sin or is it more accurately the fear of mortal sin? It is important to know and to understand the difference. In this presentation the requirements for mortal sin are outlined. In addition, helpful context and direction is also provided that might be useful and effective in your management of the disorder.

If you suffer from scrupulosity, please consider sharing this video with your priest confessor. In this video I speak about the dynamic of the Sacrament of Reconciliation between the priest and the penitent. I speak about the actual experience, the real feeling of disconnect that is manifested. I offer good, solid, practiced, and useful pastoral advice that will be helpful. This may we be one o...
Catholic OCD: Embracing Your Fragile Self
มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
It is hard to accept that we are so fragile as human beings. We all prefer to see ourselves as the "strong and silent type," or as "having our act all together." The truth is that each of us are quite a bit more fragile than we care to admit or to accept.
Catholic OCD: The Graveyard of the Gods

This video is a little different than the videos that I normally upload to this channel. It is a meditation on developing a positive image of God, but I approach it from an entirely different starting point. I hope that it inspires those who watch it and that it does not make you anxious. If you are prone to anxiety when thinking about images of God, perhaps you might want to skip this one.

Catholic OCD: Human Sexuality, a perspective
Father it’s true that sexuality is a gift, but as everything it must used accordingly to natural law made by God. Sodomy for example, is not a sexual experience, it is an immoral act, clearly forbidden by scripture and from Saint Paul. Do you agree?
Thank you Father this is so helpful.
Thank you Jesus for bringing father into my life ! May the saints pray for him, and the angels protect him
So good. Thank you.
If you suffer from this worry, you have OCD. You are NOT a bad person. Get a therapist who can help you with this, and do not waste another second of your life in turmoil about your thoughts. Find an OCD therapist NOW.
I apologise if this is off topic just wondering if people are such good parents etc i.e friends family..why they can't aren't or don't stay together??
Just want to know if the Confiteor we pray at Mass is contrary to what Fr is saying when we pray, "I have sinned in my thoughts and words" etc? Another point is that of resolving to stay away from occasions of sin when we ask for forgiveness in confessions. Fr said he watched 5 movie trailers of certain kinds and each gave occasion to certain thoughts which could lead to temptation to certain sins. Avoiding these occasions of sin seems IMHO to be prudent. Any thoughts anyone?
🙏THANK YOU FATHER.🙏 THANK YOU ABBA, THANK YOU JESUS, THANK YOU O HOLY SPIRIT FOR YOUR ETERNAL LOVE, MERCY, FORGIVENESS AND COMPASSION. 🙏I PRAY HAIL MARYS AS A REMEDY TO AVOID COMMITTING MORTAL OR VENIAL SINS DURING THE DAY AND THE NIGHT PRAYER WITH THE EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE WITH FR. JOSEPH MATLAK.
🙏THANK YOU. SAINT ALPHONSUS LIGOURI, ORA PRO NOBIS.
What helped me watching NDE’s
Ocd is horrific I keep getting rude thoughts of Mary and Jesus very rude ones 😢 it upsets me so much
Stay more time before the blessed sacrament or atleast look at an image of the blessed sacrament that helped me to cure myself and obtain other more virtues
God bless your heart. I needed to hear this. Sometimes I get anxiety almost to a panic attack when I hyperfixate on every moments starting from my thoughts to my words to my actions. Its tiring🥺
I know the feeling sister. Praying for you 🙏
Hello father, could you please elaborate or clarify what does the Catechism mean when speaking about “inward” utterances that constitute blasphemy. Would it be correct to say this is not referring merely to inappropriate thoughts in themselves but presume also a malicious intent, such hatred of God or desire to mock God. Or am I mistaken? Thank you.
Thank you father🙏🏼♥️
If I were to knowingly get on the internet to look at an explicit photo, and then choose to stop looking at it, is it still mortal sin?
Well stated. Thank you Fr.
Thank you so much for posting this video, Father. I can’t even express my gratitude.
first off, God bless, secondly how do you have a video on this exact subject i was not expecting to find this
Thank you father this was so helpful
Father I love you, thank you!!!
Tgis was an interesting discussion and important....My wife and me are on ten years of living a chaste marriage. I won't make a judgment on those who do not abide by Pope Paul VI's HV, but I will say that rather than finding it lacking or incomplete, it seems to me to enlighten me, perhaps unintentionally, to the idea that sex has purpose(s) and end goals, and that the further distance between that we generally have understood as "normal" sexual behavior and the prevailing culture the less sustainable and lievable our world has become. I think social science, rather than a study of physical science could back that up. I am a Gen Xer and mine was tge first "liberated" generation. From a purely secular level I think the "loosening of morals" HV warned about has born out a lot in my lifetime and has reached a very dangerous point where young men and women don't really interact much for the purposes of family formation. The idea of family as primary for organising society has colapsed. The void is being filled by radical progressivism, radical traditionalism or just plain toxic misogyny. None of this helps the person struggling with scrupolosity or actual sexual sin, but it is to say I don’t believe we need a rigorous understanding of the physical sciences to understand sex and sexuality shoukd be handled with care.
This Father I would trust with anything, and I have serious trust issues.
If anyone wants the song for this video. It is "From Within" by Kevin Graham
Severe Trauma can effect your relationship with Christ . Live through a war as a baby I just know Blessed Mother has me . That's all that matters , Jesus does not judge us like we judge people He judges us by our whole being including psychologically. Jesus wants us to get to heaven more than we do Believe me.
Thank you very much, Fr. Santa, for your dedicated ministry to those of us with scrupulosity. My life has been made better because of your scrupulous anonymous publications. I do have a request: I would like to ask if you could mute the background music because I think it interfered with digesting what you were saying. The background music makes it hard to process what you have said. It is just my opinion but please do consider removing the background music. If I could present myself to be credible in my assessment, I have a degree in medicine. The music interferes with thought processes as the hearing of music and the hearing of your words occur simultaneously, competing with each other. Thank you.
Thank you for baptizing me 6 years ago!

Thank you Father. God bless you. I needed this video.
This content is an absolute oasis of healing in what has been a long and torturous journey through a deep valley of despair. Thank you, Father. Im amazed and feel joy I didn't know existed, I can make it another day. ❤ Ave Maria
God Bless you Father. I have really needed this good counsel. My thanks.
Thank you sir.
I thought this one meant "is Catholic OCD a mortal sin" and was terrified for a second, haha. Regardless, I was having a rough day with intrusive thoughts and really needed this. Thank you, Father!
Thank you so much 🥺
Hi Father: Could you help explain Romans 1: 18-32. Paul discusses that the pagans burned with Lust toward each other. The Lust that King David had resulted in him taking a life because he wanted his wife, no matter what and nothing was going to stop him! I have heard that Paul was discussing Pagan temple worship that the "lust" was a lot of times, drug induced. I've often wondered about that. I "think" what you mean is that LUST is much much more than just plain sexual attraction and desires. The story of King David really puts it into a whole different level. Thanks kindly
Amen
This was very helpful Fr. It would be great to give a talk about homosexuality, as I struggle with that. I know many gay couples that don't appear to have a lustful relationship, but I also am well aware of parts of the community that are driven by lust, which leads to a lot of trouble in their lives and yet, the Lord loves them as much as he loves me. Lust is a biggie for sure.
I've struggled greatly with this. My battle against lust started out as a battle against masturbation and pornography, but it slowly turned into an ocd battle against sexual thoughts where I am obsessively trying to not look at women with lustful intent. Needless to say ever since I've been obsessively concerned with not looking at women lustfully I now do it more then ever because its always on my mind. This obsessiveness has lead me down a dark path of constantly falling back into masturbation and pornography. Im also an illustrator and routinely study the human figuire as part of my work. Never have I been filled with such anxiety during my drawing sessions. This video has helped tremendously. Thank you Fr.
My friend, I have been in the same position of you. I'm observing St. Michael's Lent (August 15th- September 29th), and fell into the sin of self abuse in the first couple of days. I then prayed the Mary, Untier ot Knots Novevna. The nine days helped me so much as I didn't wamt to let God and Our Lady down by falling during the nine days. Since then, I am doing well. As a single man who suffers with anxiety, and has a lot of time on his hands, I have struggled but I am doing much better. I will pray for you to look up the Novena and win your battle. The fact that you are struggling shows that you have a good conscience and want to get out of this bad habit. God forgives us each time we fall and repent, and so long as you are sorry, and actively try to change, don't be so hard on yourself. God bless.
I don’t have an appetite but I’m underweight and I get a runny nose when I eat (a histamine reaction) I also get full before I’ve eaten enough calories because out of the foods I’ve tried I react the least to beef. Should I still eat or is it gluttony to finish if I’m physically full and/or have the histamine reaction? I feel it is wrong so I avoid eating or eat very little
Gluttony is when you are using food as a coping mechanism, and putting food above God. You are eating to make sure you survive, and making sure even though you are uncomfortable, you eat enough to nourish your body. If you are worried, just see how many calories you need to eat to gain weight and try to hit those calories. That way, you are not “overdoing it” (which i’m sure you wouldn’t be).
Sounds like modernism
Thank you so much for this!!! The temptations are sometimes so strong that I wonder if it’s a mortal sin though I have no intention of carrying it out.
Near occasion of sin for me its one of the most stressful situations, I acknowledge that I put myself in bad situations, but not with the intention to sin, so I get stress and afraid, and cnfuse, want to overcome scrupulosity but think I am just trying to harden my heart and deny that I have sin.
Thank you Father. I am blessed to be led by grace to your service today.
A good rule of thumb is that if you are afraid that you have blasphemed the Holy Spirit, you likely haven’t. It is to spread lies and convince the public that the Holy Spirit and God’s grace comes from a wicked/demonic source. It is to say the exact opposite of the truth, and to then spread it knowingly to the world. The people most susceptible to the unforgivable sin today, are still the same people it was originally referenced to if you know the scripture. They knew that Jesus was performing miracles in the name of God, and they knew he was the messiah, yet they denied him and professed to others that he worked for the devil.
Thank you Father Santa
Amen 🙏 bless you Fr
How can thoughts not be sinful, when we say in the Confiteor that we have sinned in THOUGHT, word, and in deed: Peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo et opere.? "For perverse thoughts separate from God" Wisdom 1:3
Thoughts must be wilfully indulged in to be sinful. If an intrusive thought is repudiated, it cannot be considered a sin, since God is aware of our fallen nature and knows that we cannot possibly block our mind from all evils and are prone to having sudden bad thoughts, even if we don’t desire them.
