I like the Detect spells a fair bit. Detect dead is good for finding the bodies of enemies you'd beaten (they're surprisingly good at hide-and-seek for inanimate objects sometimes). They're also useful in general to detect enemies. I don't usually bother with shouts, so I generally don't get Aura Whisper, so I rely on these finding undead and corpses to loot. They're also good for leveling Alteration. For Alteration I usually start with Transmute (which is also useful for getting smithing up with ring crafting, and those rings are good for enchanting too), and then when I gain access to it I use Detect Life in Riften during the day. It's a busy city with a lot of people milling about. There are more efficient ways I'm sure, but this still works well. There is of course the cheat of getting 100% Alteration cost reduction and just using Telekinesis followed by fast traveling with it still active. I personally rate Mass Paralysis lower. It's more mana-efficient, sure, but it has a limited range and leaves you vulnerable for a bit too long, I think. 'More mana efficient' isn't the same as cheaper either, so for more general encounters of just one or two enemies there is no real use for AoE paralysis. If you know there are a bunch of enemies rushing you ahead of time it's better than Paralyze, but with the range advantage and the less cost per cast, the basic Paralyze is at least arguably better IMO. Another BIG downside is that it's indiscriminate, so it'll hit enemies, neutrals, and allies alike. That could quickly make you unpopular and also reduce your side's fighting power, especially if you rely on companions for melee fighting. Basically, mass paralysis is very situational in its advantage, I think, and is more of a novelty spell in my experience. It would be more useful in an evil playthrough where you don't care about casualties or accumulating a bounty though.
Damn this explains why follower uses Miraaks sword over everything else. The slither effect is hella satisfying. Nice list. Would love to see a list of new destruction spells. Elemental bolt + fortify destruction is so broken
To Mace of Molag Bal's credit, you can get it immediately after escaping Helgen. Thanks for making these videos; your style reminds me of the good ol' days of TH-cam and are super comforting to watch.
Something I learned only recently: Wall spells can actually (and are meant to) be cast directly on targets. Basically, they're like more powerful flames/sparks/frostbite starter spells that create damaging elemental pools that are very effective when dealing with stationary/slow targets. So, yeah, it seems a LOT of us have been using these spells wrong all this time. They are still more expensive to cast of course, but they aren't as unwieldy as we've been treating them to this point.
Yeah, I’ve probably been using them wrong 💀
Very helpful. Thanks !
Yeah doesn’t know much about bloodthorn The extra enchant which is a health absorb
And can soul trap the machine bois
They all look ugly as sin, and like my mighty Dragonborn in full ebony armor is running late to catch the bus to school.
I like to use fire rune against draugrs that are still in their caskets. It explodes instantly, wakes just one up and you can defeat them all one by one.
Elemental Blast (anniversary edition) is so stupid OP that I defeated alduin in less hits than the vampire lord guy
You get a sub, HOWEVER, runws? Very easy to use. Just point it at their feet, 8n the path, etc. Drawing enemies towards you, especially indoors. It works so well! Just got to know how, and where to use it.
I actually just found channel recently, just got back into skyrim after ( too many? ) time in elden ring. Great content..and, as a migraine patient..thank you for the epilepsie warning. Very kind
26 is a seal club 😂
Big error. Undying ghost is miles better than the colossus. The Colossus is master lvl so not available until you're high lvl and Costs a whack of magicka. UG cam be obtained and uses at lvl 1. Moreover, with salmon roe powered fortify magicka potions (easy to get at lvl1) you're UG has full 600pts strength. This is lvl 1. It will kill anything in Skyrim at that lvl.
Dual casting restoration or possibly the save from death one because that can be replaced by hot key potions. Necro mage as a vampire is godlike.
Ive been playing skyrim since literally day 1 and ive never, not once, takenany speech perks outside of the first one that makes prices better
Ice storm should be more praised for going through walls and ignoring obstacles, as well as being able to hit multiple enemies
That is a good point! Could definitely be useful in dungeons
Dawn breaker should be higher no way you put a pixax over it
Doesn't poison stop natural regeneration for non undead eniemies or at least negates it?(I m talking about poison trap)
It may, but natural regeneration in Skyrim is so incredibly slow for most enemies that it doesn’t make too much of a difference in most fights, at least from my experiences. Personally, I Would rather spend the magika on an instant-damage spell or a summon instead of using a slow DOT spell like poison rune. Good question!
@TypicalPirate55 wait does that poison stacks with other types of poison and can you use fire to boost that? If yes it could be usable tho not the best and i gotta ask 1 question, do runes target multiple eniemies or is it limited to single one and can you place multiple that affect 1
@ I’m not sure if it stacks with other poisons (like from the potion menu), but it will stack if you use two poison rune spells. It will also stack with other effects like fire, the ebony mail, and Mirrak’s staff as well! To answer your other question, rune spells can hit multiple enemies because they explode, but I find it pretty difficult to pull off unless you are fighting in a small hallway or corridor. Hope this helps.
@@TypicalPirate55 thanks and i think i will test the stacking one day
Came for the shouts, stayed for the garage band.
The problem with fireball is how it hurts Lydia
Would be nice if you could detonate your summons.
Ignite is simply the most powerful spell ever, you can boost the damage to crazy levels
I'm playing without HUD and compass this time and clairvoyance which felt really useless before became incredibly useful when following objectives or being in dungeons with multiple dead ends, going to those dead ends first to loot then continuing with moving through the dungeon. Also helping not check map so often.
I'll be honest, it really depends on the class of character I'm playing. Surprising, I dont find many Illusion spells to be useful as battle-mage, other than courage and the like. At least to my perspective, Muffle and Invisibility are more useful when playing an assassin or stealth archer.
Clairvoyance helps you fight the worst enemies in Skyrim: the mountains.
I just think that needing to recharge weapons is such a chore but for ones like the nightingale blade I can see why it’s necessary
Yes I just love eating my lunch with my enemies enemies in the game it so much better 😂😂😂😂😂 so you want to kill me, wait let's eat something first
What about lightning storm?

Shock Wall is great tbh
I knew it and then 2nd guessed myself 🤦♂️
Are you killing Nazeem with veggies? I love this timeline the most!
He deserves it!
Necromancer's Ritual should synergize great with Flaming Familiar.
I guess it would!
You should do a follower rank list! 🤩
I am using a lot Golden warrior archer / Dark warrior Archer , I think it deserves a shot 😊
Can you do staves/staffs next?
@@caitlinwhatthefrick2361 great idea!
Don’t think magicka cost should affect the rankings as anybody who knows how to play the game will have 0 cost to destruction spells once the build is complete. Difficulty to acquire shouldn’t affect either because why?
what about spells like strangulation? I made a Sith build, I'm doing nothing but "force choke" type powers and lightning powers, and they combo together so well.
Didn’t decide to include creation club spells for this video. Strangulation is a fun spell tho.
@@TypicalPirate55 Didn't know when I asked that some of the things in my game weren't vanilla lol
now we have elemental flare and bolt
Lore Wise, Alteration is the most powerful school of magic.
That’s interesting! How so?
Brilliant and invaluable video. It does highlight when you go back through it how sword-heavy Skyrim is. On this list there are 18 swords, 6 daggers, 4 axes (if you count wood- and pick-), and only TWO maces. Out of the top ten, all but three are swords, with no axe at all. And no arguments here - it's a great list. But as someone who has played a lot and loves creating new characters, I like to use maces or axes more often than swords these days, and the selection is pitiful. Just as well that with good smithing and enchanting, without even going mad with exploits, you can soon make yourself a badass weapon of your own, with two enchantments of your choice, that just about beats anything on this list. Hurrah for Skyrim, but also a hurrah for Typical Pirate!
Idk what you’re talking about I solo’d kaarstag with wind shear mainly cause every time you with someone with it they stagger
Fun fact about the various courage spells: most of them stack. Dual casting them boosts the duration. You can buff your follower with something like an extra 100 HP for like 5 minutes at a time.
I think that the Ebony Blade is arguably the best 2 handed weapon in the game. The sword can be charged by killing one person repeatedly via reanimation that doesnt disintegrate the body, such as the Ritual Stone. The 30 point drain health enchant paired with it having the attack speed of a 1 handed sword makes you nearly unkillable. The low base damage can be circumvented via enchanting, put fortify 2 handed on your gear, and you can still hit hard. The Ebony Blade guarantees victory in any fight that takes place in melee range, as the 30 points of healing every hit and long reach make it super easy to survive with. The enchant never running out is also super convenient. Never need to carry soul gems to fill it.
Cool video!
@@michaelt62077 thanks!
Cloak spells are effective when used in conjunction with a melee play-style, as they provide passive damage when engaging enemies in melee. Just standing around letting enemies bash on you while waiting for a cloak to kill them isn't how the spell is intended to be used.
Also, Dawnbreaker is probably a top 5 as well imo, for one simple reason. If you use a spell like fireball or something similar during the quest, you can knock Dawnbreaker from the sheath you pick it up from, but it will still remain in the sheath. This means it's possible to get two Dawnbreakers and dual wield them, provided you knocked it loose and picked up the one on the floor first, essentially doubling your chance for explosions against the undead.
Asura's Star is definitely a 14 to me, but the Black Star is top 5 easily, a nice rinse and repeat black soul gem is paramount for any sort of enchantment user imo. But I know I'm late to this party and it's been said before, just gotta throw my two cents in.
Who let this guy cook? Take his utensils away
Mara’s wraith is a must for old tombs
