Variety is the spice of life. Mix it up if it pleases you.. the most popular book tubers do. Vids of you talking of your planned reads… vids of your spin on a genre you’ve read examples of etc etc… but baring in mind you are playing catch up… don’t stretch yourself to a point where it’s not fun… do what you enjoy and we’ll enjoy it with you 😊😊😊
Subscribed ….. I shall definitely be checking out ‘ a most agreeable murder’ sounds fun.
Do what you want to do and not worry about the viewer too much. If they like your content, they will watch. If they don’t and make a comment about it then view that as ‘well they watched it and earned me a bit of money for it and the comment. I’m interested in your reading journal set up videos. If I’m not interested in the topic of your video then I won’t watch and I won’t leave a negative comment. Gosh... Thank you !!!! For letting me know ab the happy medium bc from the synopsis I would 100% have picked it up. But gosh did I dodge a bullet there 💀 Thank you for the sacrifice ! Also thank god you didn't buy it !
I'm up for book chats in addition to your monthly roundups. Would love to hear about past books and TBRs - always love hearing others opinions on what I've read and adding potential good books to my TBR list! Oh I LOVE Becky Chambers - I haven't read this duology yet, on my list!! My one problem with her books is that I always want more of them, to keep exploring the world she builds. I also just recently got on the Fourth Wing/Iron Flame bandwagon this month - read them back to back and enjoyed them both, I enjoyed the escapism and that I could just get totally absorbed. I feel like Fourth Wing is the hook, Iron Flame is more building. As a side note, I think the whole Xaden not talking and the "trust me even if I can't tell you everything" comes from her husband being in the military so unable to talk about his job much. I enjoy the world and story enough (despite the flaws) to read the 3rd coming out in Jan.
@@julia_l-c ahhh thank you so much!! Yes, I totally agree about Becky Chambers!! I’m excited to get into her other stories. And that makes sooo much sense about Fourth Wing/Iron Flame! I’m so glad you’re loving them😍
Your channel is about books, whether it's journaling about them, or talking about them, so I wouldn't mind either. I've been a reader since the 90's at least, and I find it difficult to choose which books I want to read now because the way books are marketed has changed - there aren't any books by post bookclubs anymore (in the UK, at least) and the books that the bookclub chose to sell helped me in picking out reads. These days, I find blogs and many other places online that talk about books tend to focus on marketing YAs and romantasy books and these aren't my taste, but it gives the impression that these are the only books being published now. Videos at least help me find what books I might find interesting, so I wouldn't mind either way and doing both would be even better.
@@craftyhobbit7623 this is such helpful insight, thank you!! 🥰❤️
You really made me want to read the last book! You sounded so excited by your ideas for different videos, so I would go for it. If some viewers are just here for the journal videos they just won't watch it and that's all :)
Aaahhhh YES!! I hope you read and love it! There’s valid criticism, so it may not be a perfect book, but it’s just so swampy and fun😅 and thank you so much for the advice! That’s a really good point🥰❤️ it’s all just for fun - doesn’t have to be a big deal!
I think you should do what you find the most motivating and inspiring, if you're doing youtube for a hobby. If however you want to actually grow your channel big and aim for it to be something else than a hobby you have to stick with a niche and do videos that the algorithm likes the most. That's just how it goes unfortunately. So my advice as someone who has been doing youtube for years and exchanged growth and "virality" to authenticity and no-stress-or-demands -creating is that you have to first choose what you yourself want and are ready for. Which to you is more important, creating what inspires you and fulfills your creative mind or numbers and success. Sometimes it can be both, but it's not a guarantee and most times even if it starts from a point of passion, it ends up in obligation and burnout. Just my two cents on it. Personally, I think journaling and books kinda go hand in hand, most people who journal and like crafts also like to read and you have many subscribers that found you specifically from your reading journal videos, me included. So if it strikes the chord of inspiration for you and you don't mind stepping a little out of the niche you've created, I think personally I would do it. But you should listen to yourself and figure out what it is you want.
Ahhhh thank you so much! This is such great advice and really encouraging🥹 I will be thinking long and hard about it!
You always risk messing things up with the algorithm when you tinker with your content. Considering you have 500 subscribers but get around 1k views on each video you can assume that you get a good chunk of your viewership (way more than 50%) from being a recommended video. If you move into being half a booktube channel now, you will be confusing the system on who to recommend you to. That being said, personally, I watch a lot of booktube content and I'd love to see more videos from you. But I am also a subscriber of yours so you already won me over anyway (proven by the fact that I spend my time writing this wall of text as advice). A decision like this is always a matter of choosing between passion and work. How much do you really care about these TH-cam numbers? How much do you just want to do it for fun? How happy would it make you to post booktube content compared to how sad would it make you to see your viewership drop? Will you still feel motivated to post videos if you can't be as free as you want with your content? Finally, I'd also like to bring up the option of creating a second channel. That would avoid the issues with the algorithm but also be additional work for you and I assume it would feel like having to restart from the beginning. If you were to ask me for advice, I'd always recommend you care about what you love first, numbers second, but I acknowledge that that's said from a point of privilege. Whatever you decide to do, I'll be here for it.
WOW thank you for such a thoughtful response!! I definitely care way more about loving what I do. I have a full time job, so making videos is absolutely a hobby project for me and I want to love it, not treat it like a “beat the algorithm” game. I will ponder all of this, thank you! 🥰❤️
If you want to talk about more books you definitely should do it. maybe if it's easier to keep with the journal videos you could just do spreads in between months or do special videos with your favorite books of the past 5 years or something like that 🤷 like, why limit ourselves to just talk about recent books? I like the way you talk about the books you read and your enthusiasm for the books you really like is contagious and your spreads are beautiful so, as long as you are satisfied with your videos, you should be able to do them anyway you want to 😊
Oh wow thank you so much! This is so encouraging! 🥹
Do what makes you happy, which seems to be both making journaling videos, but also talking about books. I would watch that!
Ahhh thank you so much!! 🥹🥰❤️
I hope that you keep doing these journal videos. I think you should post videos of you talking strictly books as your video each week maybe? With a monthly journal video?
Oooh what a great idea, thank you!! I will definitely continue with my journal videos. I love them so much🥹
Oh this is such a good idea! I LOVE the reading journaling videos, and the mix of spread decoration chat along with interesting chat about the books themselves. I would also be up for general book and reading vids, and I like the idea of you not having to have *just* read the book in order to talk about it
Biggest reason I subscribed to your channel is because of the way you talk about what you've read while you're putting together your spreads. I don't know how others feel about it, but that kills two birds for me, and I'd be very happy to see you lean more into talking about books if that's fulfilling for you.
Awww wow thank you so much!! I will definitely think about it, then, and maybe put something in the works soon 🥹🥰

Oh my god that sweater thing is unbelievable 😂 but you can say that for the guy, he's a crafter at heart u.u
Omg hahahahaha yeesss he just wants to see her wear his art 😂
Okay but what was your husband's reacrion to the sweater scene? 👀 I read Hex Yourself at the beginning of the year and I agree with you about the cat being a creep. It also took me a while to immerse myself in the story, I couldn't see where the interesting part would begin and I just wanted it to be over so bad. Definitely not my favorite reylo vibes book of this year. (I read on Goodreads that this particular book was not a fanfiction first, it was an original work since the beginning even though the author wrote reylo fanfiction as well)
@@marpotterhead oh excellent question- he was horrified 😅 Interesting about Go Hex Yourself!! I guess that’s why I didn’t catch any fanfic vibes while I was reading, it was only after I saw people mention it. It could definitely be a better book if it was workshopped a bit more, I think!
I am laughing so hard at that grandfathers sweater scene, what on earth was the author thinking😂😂😂. also if you enjoyed One Night on the Island it sounds like you might like The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella. I listened to it as an audio book, not something i usually enjoy, but it was narrated by the actress who plays prudence in bridgerton and i absolutely loved it. has taken the top spot as my favourite romance novel.
😂😂 it was truly an unhinged thing to read, I swear. Oooooh thank you for the recommendation!! 😍 I will definitely check that out because I was surprised by how much I loved One Night on the Island so I would loooooove to get into some similar books!
Thanks for adding the Happy Medium to my Never Reading list🥴.... yeah, that scene sounds super bad and cringe, I'm surprised you finished the book with how bad it sounded!
@@julia_l-c 😂 you’re so welcome! I literally couldn’t not finish, I had to know if it got worse
I don’t have ADHD, but I am definitely a perfectionist, so I feel like I understand what you meant you said that a tracker feels ‘ruined’ and that you might as well give up and abandon it if you didn’t keep up with it every day. I literally cheat and open books in my Kindle on days when I’m not reading a Kindle book just so that the recorded reading streak won’t get broken because that would bother me. People always tell me to not be such a perfectionist. But I’ve been that way for as long as I remember (pretty sure I have a report card where my first grade teacher called me that), so I don’t know how to be anything else and haven’t figured out a way to stop being myself. At this point, I just kind of embrace it as a part of who I am and just accepted that I will probably never be satisfied with anything I achieve. LOL It’s part of why I’ve never started a reading journal. But I’ve been watching all these videos and have decided I really to do one, so I’m going back and filling it with all the reading info I’ve collected over the last year. I don’t have much artistic talent and so far it doesn't look very good, especially compared to others. Hopefully I’ll be able to stick to it long enough get better at it. So yeah, it’s pretty much going exactly as I expected it to with my perfectionism. 😅
Omg I’m so glad that you’re trying it, though!! You should definitely have a little pride in that. I’d say to try to keep going all the way until you finish the journal! I find that looking back into a finished journal is helpful for my level of perfectionism (which isn’t super severe, so I don’t think I have perfect advice). It helps me though, because I can see that things I thought were horrible in the past are really not that bad. Once you have a big full journal, you look back through it and kind of appreciate the totality of it rather than criticize things you hate about it. At least that’s what I’ve found!!
@@Carli_is_Reading Thanks for the encouragement! I kind of went overboard buying a lot of art supplies for it, so I plan to stick with it now that I’m invested. 😅 And yeah, the thought of looking back on it and reminiscing is kind of why I decided to get into it. I’m kind of a wannabe writer and I love looking back at my old writings/work. And yeah, I’m usually less harsh on it years later, especially because I know that I’ve improved since. I still look back at my teenage diary every now and then, and I actually still think my handwriting there was fairly nice, even if my ideas were a little off. I miss having a physical place to record my thoughts as an adult, so that was another motivating factor. I’ve been writing down what I think about the books I read in a notepad doc on my iPad but it’s just not the same. I don’t do reviews on GR or anything because I’d rather not be berated or censored for my unpopular opinions like I am on every other platform. Having a reading journal where I can more freely express myself both in writing and artistically seems like the best route for me.
loving mango giving that serious orange cat energy lol what a lovely little dude. also gorgeous spreads! love the "just bought" bookshelf, i've always loved the look of those book tracker bookshelves in reading journals, but never really found it something useful for myself, but i think i'll give this style of bookshelf tracker a go in 2025!
I think advanced degrees in the sciences are difficult - I left my biology program and it took years to be ok with that decision and not feel like a failure, even though it wasn't the right program for me and definitely pushed me into depression that took a long time to come out the other side. Also, I feel like we all have seasons with our hobbies. I go through times when I knit a lot, and times where I won't pick it up for a while, but it's still there when I'm ready to come back to it!
I just love watching your "updates", you have a very nice voice to listen to 😊
Oh wow thank you so much!! I can’t believe I was literally thinking today, “I hope my voice isn’t annoying in my videos, but how does someone figure out if their own voice is annoying???” So you’ve made me feel a lot better about that😅

Ahhh thank you so much!!
Babel is a biblical reference to the Tower of Babel pronounced bay-bil. Babble or babbler have two bs. The singular b means there isn’t a b in the first syllable. So yeah it’s the other pronunciation lol.
This is only half true. While you're correct, that this is biblical and it is to do with the Tower of Bable. Babel is another name of the city of Babylon. Merriam-Webster gives both pronunciations (Bay-bil and Bah-bil), but the former is listed first so that suggests it's the more common one. However, If you put the word google translator and look for the Hebrew pronunciation it is actually given as something like "bah-ville" (and in German, my mothertongue it's actually also pronounced (bah-bell)) which, on top of the fact that afaik "Babylon" is pronounced more like "baptize" than "baby", to me all suggest that "bay-bil" is simply the Americanized pronunciation and "bah-bil" is more accurate to Hebrew, albeit less common in American English pronunciation. Maybe it's even the more common one in British English but I would have to check that
@@TheTopazGrove in English the “Rabbit Rule” exists for double medial consonants. If there is one consonant in the middle, the first vowel is extended. If there are two consonants, the first vowel is shortened. Cave vs cattle. Shatter vs shave. Rabbit vs rabies or rave. Kitten vs kite. Babble vs Babel. Thank you for the addition to my original comment! Tower of Babel was supposedly in the centre of Babylon yes which could definitely factor into the constant back and forth over the pronunciation of the word lol. And the way she has pronounced it I have only heard from Americans and is the “American pronunciation” in dictionaries, but I am a bit of a stickler for UK grammar rules as a qualified English teacher.
@@TheTopazGrove and I speak Afrikaans as well which we also pronounce it similarly to German in Afrikaans, but again that suits our respective languages and the grammar rules as well.
@@TheTopazGrove additionally “Babylon” also makes sense with pronunciation as it has three syllables, so the pronunciation changes. Babe is different to Babylon, like cave is different to cavernous and rave to ravenous.
@@BinxThinx I think you're not taking into account, that it is a Hebrew name, though. It's loaned and thus English conventions don't necessarily have to apply. (But can absolutely be applied anyway for better integration into the language). I dont doubt that your understanding of English pronunciation conventions is solid and fact based but from a philological/linguistic approach which is my field of study stickling for the rules is often times considered as reductive. Language is malleable and in flux constantly. There's no "more correct" way of pronouncing it and my argument from the start was that, given the etymological context it's absolutely valid to pronounce it closer to the Hebrew way especially since it is a approximation of a Hebrew name to begin with. I'm really not trying to say that pronouncing it "bay-bil" is incorrect, because as you said, it is definitely the correct way as far as english language conventions are concerned. However, that doesn't make it the only correct way nor the "most" correct way. It just makes it one viable and well founded option.
Okay lots of thoughts, bare with me 😹 Firstly, your journal spreads are always so beautiful and these were no exception. Second, I absolutely love the BK Borison's series. All the books were so cute and wholesome and ahhh... I almost cried when I finished the last one. I think business casual is my favorite of them all. Hello! I’m a new subscriber because I relate to a lot of your comments! I’m in STEM too (I did my PhD in Veterinary vaccine immunology). I used to try to keep my bullet journal in a very structured way, but also have AuDHD so the inconsistency and perfectionism with those set ups was very real for me too - if I was busy & didn’t fill it out for a week the rest of the month was essentially ’ruined’ because it was all set up but blank. I set up a reading journal this year (I set up one for the jubilee reading challenge, but that is for a big list of pre-defined books, most of them I haven’t read yet!)
@@sophiahodgson85 Welcome!!! Yessss! It’s so nice to know that others relate to me on this. It has helped me so much with my regular bullet journal to draw empty boxes and only fill them in as I need (this week I even filled in boxes by “types of tasks” instead of days of the week. It’s just what my brain needed) and if one spread lasts me three weeks or something, then so be it🤷🏼♀️ good luck with your reading journal/challenge!! I love having a nice long list of books I want to read (even if I scrap the list later, it’s still fun)🥰
I really related to everything you said about ADHD. I only got back into reading since childhood recently and I’m loving it but it took a lot of dedication. Sometimes hobbies feel so stressful with adhd.
