Custom Aero Precision Solus / Proof Research .25 Creedmoor w/ TBAC Magnus-S Suppressor
In this video I am shooting my custom build Aero Precision Solus rifle with a custom ordered 20" Proof Research barrel with a 1:7.5" twist rate, sitting in their 15" Comp Chassis. I'm running my new Thunderbeast Magnus-S suppressor with their 5/8x24 ZR0-DTA direct-thread mount. I built this rifle at home with a custom ordered prefit Proof Research barrel that was threaded, finished, and chambered by Blue Mountain Precision in Vernal, Utah. They did an excellent job.
I pieced this rifle together over the last year catching various sales at different retailers, and the results were worth the wait. This high-end custom build ended up costing me just slightly over MSRP for complete rifle from Aero would, but with MUCH better barrel and trigger.
The rifle has a TriggerTech Special trigger set @ 1 lbs. , an MDT 10-rd magazine, and an ERGO Ambi SureGrip on it. It has a Vortex Razor Gen3 6-36x56 EBR-7D MRAD scope, in a set of American Rifle Company M-Brace 34mm rings on top of the built-in 20MOA base that is machined into the top of the receiver as standard equipment.
I'm shooting handloads with Berger 133 Elite Hunters in Alpha Munitions .25CM SRP brass, with Winchester StaBall 6.5 powder, and CCI 400 primers. This load puts down 0.3 MOA 5-shot groups @ 100 yards.
I'm shooting steel gongs @ 300 yards.
I get all of my Suppressors, Tax Stamps, and Trusts through Silencer Shop.

@@markoeberhardt3132 Watch more videos… This one is explained in the description. Tried to make a YT Short, but it didn’t upload as a short because it wasn’t shot in portrait mode.
You need an oil change bro.
What’s your set up to shoot the polonium? I got mine and got a gas buster, BRT 50/50 suppressed gas tube, an H3 buffer, and a red springco spring and gas still has my eyes watering….. thanks
Going down the rabbit hole of suppressing my GF5. So essentially all I need is a new threaded barrel and a can?
@@Akac3sh No, the PSA GF5 already has a nice FNH threaded barrel. All you need is a muzzle device and a suppressor made to use with that muzzle device. If you’re going Dead Air KeyMo, then I recommend the JMac Customs 360 KeyMicro 14x1 LH muzzle device made for AK’s.
How did the .308 work out for accuracy? Im wondering if the lighter Sendora fluted barrel would be worth the extra cost.
My .308 Win barrel was not a good one. It had one load it liked, and even that was hit-or-miss. I pulled that barrel as soon as my CarbonSix 7mm SAW barrel showed up. And everyone I've talked to that has a .308 Win Solus, the accuracy sucks. I'm starting to think something was wrong with the .308 Win barrels. My factory 6.5CM barrel is showing MUCH more promise while it's breaking in. I'm already getting some 0.5 to 0.7" groups just while doing load development and testing things. I would honestly opt for the 6.5CM if you want to be on the safe side for a better chance guarantee of a shooter.
@@TroyPosey Thank you for the info, What all would I need to do to swap to 6.5? Change the barrel and bolt out or buy a new rifle?
@@j.p.4541 6.5 Creed and .308 Win use the same bolt face and action, so it only requires a simple barrel swap. To swap barrels at home, you will need a good sturdy and rigid-mounted barrel vise (I use a Short Action Customs Modular Barrel Vise, but they are not cheap), a torque wrench that goes up to 75 ft.lbs to install the new barrel, a 1/2” breaker bar (24” long handle) for removing the old barrels, and a Solus action wrench that you can get from Aero directly. I also strongly recommend spending the ~$100 on a set of Dave Manson Go & No-Go gauges for whatever cartridge you plan on changing it to, just to ensure the barrel is properly headspaced after installing it. In the grand scheme of things, it’s cheap peace of mind knowing your barrel and action are assembled properly. 👍🏼

Looking for the "quietest" suppressor for a 18" 243 / 6mm creedmoor.... which one would u recommend? Nomad L jolene hyperion ab raptor 10? Or something else? TIA!
Quietest can... Would probably be the Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen-L 6.5mm. It's the same as their 7.62 (.30 cal) version, but with a smaller 6.5mm bore, so it will be really quiet for anything 6.5mm or smaller. One of my favorite all-around 6mm/.257/6.5mm cans is my Otter Creek Hydrogen-S 6.5mm. It's only a 7" can, but suppresses like most 9" .30 caliber cans, thanks to the smaller bore diameter. It gets swapped between my custom Aero Solus/Proof Research .25 Creedmoor build, and and my Christensen Arms MPR 16" 6mm ARC. The fact it's only a 7" can makes for a nice compact and quiet hunting rig, too. If you aren't on a tight budget, the TBAC Magnus HUB is one of the quietest .30 caliber suppressors on the market, and sounds great on 6mm ARC. It's stupid quiet. And it would give you some extra versatility being able to use on anything .223 to .30 caliber.
@@TroyPosey thank you very much for getting back to me ! I will take a look at the ocl hydrogen L 6.5 I actually had it in my cart at silencershop a week or so ago...... TBAC are so darn spendy! But they seem to be highly recommended by many..
Any suggestions for a suppressor in the .308 version?
@@j.p.4541 TBAC Magnus HUB, Otter Creek Hydrogen-L 7.62, Dead Air Nomad-LT are all excellent options.
Would you go with the obsidian 45 or 9 for the mp5? Im wondering if the 45 might be quieter in both full and k configurations just due to length/volume alone
@@Joe-uh6kt I like the fact the 45 is longer (more internal volume) in the K-configuration, so it’s quieter than the 9 in k-configuration. You could always just buy the 45 and put a 9 end cap on it.
How much does this bad boy weigh (barreled action, scope & rings, suppressor and chassis) I’m considering a very similar build. And I can do the math if I know how much that weighs. It’d be awesome if you could help!
Fav Top 3 22 Canns ?
1.) TBAC 22 TakeDown 2.) Dead Air Mask HD 3.) Otter Creek Labs Titanium 22
Video sounds like the nomad is a little quieter
@@williamboggs1682 They’re extremely close at the shooter’s ear, but what you’re hearing is the bullet breaking the sound barrier down range. Different atmospheric conditions can cause that echo to sound louder or quieter, so some of it could just be the way the acoustics were hitting the trees and bouncing back. In person, they are so close the average person wouldn’t be able to tell any measurable difference with their ears. This can also be said about the Otter Creek Hydrogen-L. All 3 are nearly indistinguishable to the human ear in DB volume, although there is a slight tonal difference between all of them. Anyone without be extremely happy with any of the 3, and they are all 3 precision rifle cans. I can highly recommend any of them. 👍🏼

very close call between the two
Wouldn’t it be safer to use the direct thread mount adapter? I’ve heard of problems with both Rugged and SilCo adapters.
No, the SiCo mounts having issues is totally believable, but the Rugged mount is top-tier. 👍🏼 And no, 1/2-28 are right-hand threads, and will loosen up and walk-off over time, if not checked every mag or 2. The tri-lug will never have that issue. Also, the things you are hearing about the Rugged mounts are probably from people’s stupidity and not doing the research to figure out what they need to be using. Rugged offers 2 different tri-lug mounts…A 9mm version, and a .45 version. This is not dependent on which suppressor you have…Both mounts will fit both the Obsidian 9 & 45 cans. The mounts are specific to which host weapon you are running the can on…NOT which model suppressor you have. The .45 mount is bigger internally, and will be extremely loose fitting on a 9mm host, like the MP5. So, even if your can is an Obsidian 45, but you plan on using it on a 9mm host weapon, buy the 9mm tri-lug mount.
Pipe tape can secure the direct thread. Are the Rugged adapters made of aluminum? I have not seen a three lug adapter/female part yet that didn’t wobble to some degree. I’m using the can on basic pistols - both RH & LH and haven’t experienced any thing becoming loose. I’m definitely not putting three lug on my basic tilting barrel pistols. I guess I’m just not sold on the three lug solutions.
Have you had any problems feeding wise with those flat nose rounds?
Nope, 100%. Not a single issue since day 1, out of hundreds of rounds. Also, being that it’s an actual H&K, and not one of the knock-off brands, I only use German H&K mags. It’s expensive at $80 each, but they’ve been flawless, and all the knock-off brands seem to have feeding issues. A buddy has a Century MKE, and with his Century mag was having feeding issues and it wasn’t cycling the next round half the time. I handed him one of my actual H&K mags, and it worked flawlessly. Don’t know if it was just luck, or what? But it ran perfect with the H&K mag.
@@TroyPosey you should wait for the Primary Arms $59 sales on the HK mags.
Hey I just bought the Magnus and made my decision based on your videos. Thanks! Also contemplating a 7mm-08 or .308 but wanted to see which setup is quieter? My Magnus is the full size. Thanks again!
6 in one hand, half dozen in the other... They'll be about the same DB level in the Magnus due to its massive internal volume. That said, I have been shooting the 7mm-08 and the .308 Win for going on 25 years now, and they are both great cartridges. Taken plenty of deer with both, and honestly, if I had my preference over the 2, I'd go 7mm-08, just for the better BC bullets. That said, you can't really go wrong with either one. For target shooting mostly, the .308 Win will get slightly better barrel life, and will do just fine for hunting. But, if you plan on mostly hunting with it, and some target shooting, the 7mm-08 will be the better option, IMO.
That said and having said that...saying that and that saying....
Cans get REALLY hot Brother.🔥
Yeah, I know... But what you can't see, is that the can is not touching the bags. Those bags are between 12-18" long, and there's a big wide open gap in the middle where I sit the guns. I built up an elevated spot on the back of the top bag, and punched down the front of the bag so it's not touching, and it's free-floating. Also, anytime I post a video where it looks like the can is touching the bag, it's not. Not to mention, subsonic ammo doesn't get that hot after just a couple rounds. And even if it was, 9.9/10 times these are cold bore videos.
@@TroyPosey Sounds like you know what you're doing,carry on.Great content. 🇺🇲
What speeds are getting with a 20” barrel and the 175’s?
I'm using Winchester StaBall 6.5 powder, CCI 200 primers, and Nosler brass, and I'm getting 2,635 FPS MV average. I do NOT recommend pushing one this hard, always work up safely in your gun, and remember, all barrels are not the same, some are faster, some are slower. Your speeds might not match mine, so don't hurt your gun or yourself trying to recreate my results.
@@TroyPosey Good info thank you.
Which is quieter, this or the standard 4.4 inch barrel?
4.4 might be slightly quieter. Longer barrel length means more time to burn powder, so that means more gasses will burn off before exit. But the 3” is extremely quiet for its size with a good can like the TBAC.
@@TroyPosey thanks. What would you compare the sound to?
@@graham765 You ever shot a hydraulic nailgun? Pretty close to that, but slightly quieter.
Pneumatic, not hydraulic… I was still half asleep when I wrote that. 🤦🏼

Hey, thanks for the video and info. I am in the same situation, have Sandman S and bought a Polonium. Wondering if you went with DA428 or DA429, as both seem to fit?
You want the DA428 KeyMo. It’s for using with HUB threaded suppressors. Which is what you need for using on the Polonium, or any other HUB (1.375x24) threaded suppressor. 👍🏼 The DA429 is for converting a SilencerCo Saker “S-Mount” threaded suppressor to be used with KeyMo muzzle devices. It does NOT have HUB threads.

Lately life has been getting in the way, so I’ve been randomly uploading older footage for a while now, due to not having much new roll as I haven’t been going to the range as often. But next time I go up there I can do a video of both, provided there’s nobody else making noise up there. As for when, the best time is right now with all these super fast approval times. The fact the Polo is only $550 makes it hard to argue against just going ahead and dropping the coin on one. I would strongly recommend just going ahead and spending the money if you know you plan on getting one eventually…Because we don’t know what the future holds, but we do know that approval times are ridiculously fast right now. Just my thoughts on that.
thanks for the excellent vid! what holster would you recommend with the can on? have you tried it with a light?
Well, I found a holster that works perfectly, but not with the Mask HD. The Mask has an outside diameter larger than 1”, so it will not work with the holster, however, any rimfire suppressor that is 1” or less in diameter, the TacSol Lowrider model X003C1EVRX works perfectly with my TBAC 22TD cans.
I’m starting down the rabbit hole of suppressing my PSA AK GF3. Did you take any action to managing gas? I see where there are aftermarket adjustable pistons and gas blocks for the AK. Or did you just install the can and run with it? Do you get more gas back in your face while shooting? Gun seem to cycle harder while shooting suppressed?
I have not done anything to the gas system yet. I just run the can on a JMac Customs 14x1 LH RRD360 KeyMicro muzzle device. I don't notice any extra gas hitting my in the face, as the AK is already a pretty gassy design. But I do have a ton of port-pop and it the only gun I own that I still shoot with ear pro when suppressed for that reason. I do plan on getting a KNS piston system for it sooner or later. I'm hoping JMac makes one for the GF5's. I'm trying to talk Justin into making one, because I've heard the KNS system can be a bit finicky to get it tuned properly. Yes, the gun does cycle harder and slings the brass forward at about 2 o'click, instead of to the side or back, like it would if it was unsuppressed/adjusted.
Did you use a rod to check for concentriciy first before you bought it or can you only check after installing the suppressor to know if it's good to go?
@@TheEricj1337 You can only check after you get the rifle, unless you live near a PSA dealer location, then they might let you try a few different ones to be sure it has straight threads. Typically most import AK’s are the ones who don’t have bore-centric threads. The GF5 has an FN Herstal barrel that was built here in the USA, so it has borecentric threads. That said, always check to verify before shooting a live round through it to avoid any issues.
how is the length with the suppresor? im building an upper for this and im torn between 14.5 or 12.5
Handles great for me. Don’t really notice any length issues on the 14.5”. But that’s just my opinion. 🤷🏼
@@TroyPosey is your 14.5 midlength? I might go for that honestly at this point
@@REBMX carbine
Nice ! I just got a box of Berry's 220s and watching and looking for best results. I have both bolt and Semi. New subscriber for ya. Show the target next time, maybe when you get back home just a clip of it at the end would be nice! The can sounds like it working excellent , I get that is what this was about, but U could show the load and target might help some interested folks.
Do you have a h2 buffer
Either H or H2, can’t remember…
@@TroyPosey It's alright thanks
Did you do the dead air quick attach hub? On their website it shows it’s 1 3/8-24? Will it work with the polonium?
Yes, I’m running a KeyMo Omega (HUB) mount. The Polonium is HUB threaded. 👍🏼
@@TroyPosey yup I just saw that lol. It’s crazy what a little reading can do for ya 😂👍 wish the hub wasn’t so expensive but is what it is. Gonna go put in for this stamp next week. They seem to be getting approved very fast right now.
Have you tried a Hydro 6.5 S on your 14.5? How does it sound?
I have a Hydro-S 6.5, but have not tried it on the 14.5” M4. Now that my Polonium has gotten out of jail, it and my Sandman-S cans are the only things I shoot on my 5.56 AR’s.
I’ve got a bcm 14.5 trying to decide between the regular polo or the polo k. Is yours pretty gassy?
Honestly, it's no more gassy than my Dead Air Sandman-S cans... If you want max suppression the full-size Polo is pretty awesome. Personally, I'm not a fan of K-cans, because for me, the point of a suppressor is to suppress, and K-cans just don't do that very well by nature (short, low baffle count), so to me (personal opinion), K-cans are a waste of money and a $200 tax stamp. But that's just my personal opinion. The shortest I will go is the full-size Polo and Sandman-S. The Sandman-S has 5 baffles, but not a ton of internal volume, and the full-size Polo has 7 baffles and more internal volume. It's noticeably quieter than my Sandman-S cans. It also has one of the best tones I've ever heard on a 5.56. Very low (deep) tone thanks to the all 17-4 stainless construction. You definitely won't regret a Polo. 👍🏼
Great video, Troy!
Thanks! Thanks for always making the NFA process simple and easy. 👍🏼
Great video brother I get my piston driven version back from the armorer tomorrow. I put a quick mount flash hider on it. Didn't know it had a pin weld in the front when removing muzzle devices. Expensive mistake. I'm truly a Jarhead 🇺🇲
Hi, I just ordered mine. Do you find yours to be ammo sensitive at all? Do you get key holing at a certain distance?
I have only ran a couple types of ammo in mine, and so far so issues. I mainly run CCI SV in everything...Rifles and pistols. Keyholing, will probably happen at distances far beyond what you should be shooting this thing at. But I have not tested for that. I do know that with the red dot, it's extremely accurate at 50, and even at 100 yards.
