    That's nonsense, falling is forbidden in mountaineering. The harness is only there to save your life if you do fall. It doesn't make sense to buy a padded harness that is unnecessarily heavy and soaks up water.

    Almost fifty years ago I started with a “bowline and two half hitches”…. I managed to borrow a “Troll belt” (no leg loops) until I saved up for a Whillans Harness. Any sizable fall in that would give you a squeaky voice for a few hours..!

    That’s a great press. I picked mine up at a thrift store for $3.00. I used a permanent marker to mark the graduations on the outside. I also made a cozy from Mylar. It keeps the coffee hot for a much longer time than the GSI cozy. It’s a great way to have your coffee at home or in camp. Great review.

    Great review. Walmart makes a knockoff version of this kit that i picked up for less than half the price of the GSI kit. Looks as though it was made in the same factory and is virtually identical. But my favorite cook kit, especially when I hike alone, is the good old US GI canteen cook set. It's relatively light and extremely versatile because you can use virtually any kind of stove and fuel with it. It is especially terrific if you upgrade the standard plastic canteen to the Nalgeen Oasis version which runs around 8 bucks on Amazon.

    Wouldn’t the Ferossi be considered an outer shell?

    • @sawbackgear6119
      @sawbackgear6119 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question, thank you for asking! The terminology can vary a little bit from person to person. But they way I see it, you can have two types of shell jackets: hard and soft. Hard shell jacket is generally waterproof like the Arc’teryx Alpha and Beta series. They are almost always worn as the outermost later (except when a large belay jacket/parka is being worn during times of extreme cold or lack of movement). A soft shell jacked, on the other hand, is not frequently completely water proof but is much more breathable. It can offer some wind and water resistance but it excels as a layering piece in mild weather or during high aerobic output activities. The Ferrosi series falls into the later category. It is not completely waterproof and should probably not be worn as an outer layer during heavy rain/snowfall, but it does a tremendous job of keeping light rain off the body and it layers really well with other pieces remaining breathable and allowing freedom of movement because of its stretch! Of course, there are exceptions to ever “rule.” But that’s the way I see it.

    The smartwool quality/price ratio is dropping lately, and most of their current products are blends. I suggest you seek out only 100% merino wool base layers if you dont want it feeling slimy and stinking when they include polyester. They still make a good product, but you have to buy with care, and might be better served shopping other brands. Just watch the fabric weight.

All I know from your video is it's a pot for 2 -4 people. Is it aluminum, stainless steel or what? With all that you wrote in the description area, the least you could have done was added some specs & a link. You didn't give any details in your monologue. Sorry, just my observation.

      Good question. I use the Kuhl pants primarily for climbing and for hiking/backpacking. They've performed really well. For colder weather for climbing, not sure what would work. • @sawbackgear6119
      @sawbackgear6119 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did some light bouldering while we were there. There are a lot of places to climb in the area but we don't have any specific routes to suggest. I would check with the ranger station for any activities in the park since we didn't do any serious climbing in the park. Maybe another viewer can help? Be safe and be aware that the climbing is mostly on sandstone type of rock. After a rain, it's not only unsafe to climb, it damages the rock so, again, check with the ranger station.

    Are they supposed to hurt your toes? My toes aren't totally scrunched, but I definitely can't fully flatten out my feet when standing flat. The toes push against the tip of the Shoes

    • @sawbackgear6119
      @sawbackgear6119 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, the short answer is, it depends. Some climbers like their shoes REALLY tight and will size down a full size or even two from their normal shoe size. The idea is to keep all your toes close and to the end of the shoe to allow for a good grip on the rock, especially on very small holds or protrusions. You'll see climbers take off 1/2 a shoe after a climb or completely off. That's because their shoes are really tight. Climbing shoes have one purpose... to climb. Walking around in them under normal circumstances can be painful and really uncomfortable. You also might try some other shoes too. Find a good shop and try on several pairs. They should at least fit snug. Talk to the sales reps at the store and ask lots of questions. These shoes may not be the best ones for you and good shoes are really important since your climbing experience depends on them. Be safe! ~Phil
