    Sorry to hear you went through such trouble getting the outcome you eventually showed us requiring you to play through this fight quite a few times. While it is neat in a way to see what spells and abilities an enemy is under or has, this fight showed how that can be cheesed a bit making the fight easier than if it was done on tabletop.

    I've never fought Ethel on this difficulty and it really looks game breaking. On higher difficulties she often goes invisible and I believe that her illusions get higher initiative, however it was a very long time ago thus I'm not really sure, so the fight with her is considerably harder. I would never tackle her without magic missiles

    i really appreciate all the effort you went through to restore the timeline. never got to hear ethel's vicious mockery in battle, those were glorious. but honestly if something like this happens again and things go differently when you redo the fight, i personally wouldn't mind if you change your decisions and go with the new results instead

    You should check on Ethel other victims, they’ve probably recovered after her death and will probably be grateful. (Then again these are recorded in advanced so you probably did already)

  • @jcohasset23
    @jcohasset23 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Never fun when the recording messes up and requires quite a bit, including a boss fight, to have to be replayed. It's good the game is making potions so useful as in a real campaign they often end up only being used in emergencies leaving the party usually carrying around more potions than a potion shop has They apparently work far differently in BG3 than in regular D&D with these potions granting immunity until long rest instead of their usual brief resistance. Immunity is quite powerful since the poisoned condition of disadvantage on attacks and saving throws is often more annoying than the poison damage.

    • @Gar1onTabletop
      @Gar1onTabletop 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The potion changes do seem cool. I'll try to have a sit down and look at the potions and poisons I have to see how likely I am to use them. I totally agree that having the resistance last until long rest is a great change, especially as long rests are still entirely under player control.

    I found the other side of that second gnarled door recently. It's an incredible passage, if only it were actually passable. I've heard there is a way to pass through it, but... it's possible that the other side would be less impressive if you come at it that way. I don't know. Vents: you can block gas vents by placing heavy things on them. I think the game tells you this by this point.

    I have a bit of unfortunate news, i did this fight non lethally too, but they just stay unconcious even after you defeat ethel, and even when you come back after a rest they will hav dissapeared like corpses (unless they patched that) appearently if you want to save them, you need to sneak past them and not fight. but perhaps thy fixed this since my play through. as for scended step, i say just keep it if you feel it's right.

    haha larian studios heard gamers making horny jokes and innuendos and has replied with "bet." love that you are indeed roleplaying the intimate scenes. there's a while before this is relevant, but can i... can i ask, do you have nudity in your settings on or off? you _could_ have nudity on and censor in editing, when _that_ eventually happens. or if you choose to have them off and want to rewatch The Scenes when not recording, just make sure to name the savepoints you want to keep. autosaves have a chance to be automatically deleted after some time

    I'm wondering how different this event could be depending on if you had done much different actions. And yeah in my experience there is always one or two members of a dnd group whom have a character that tries to get it on with everyone- I've mentioned before that in the years long campaign I was in there were times when it felt like the rogue player and the barbarian player were competing to see which could sleep with the most npcs. As for what's going on in camp I feel this has the problem most video games like Fallout or Mass Effect do that depending on the choices and whim of the player they can romance or knock boots with any party member the devs allow with no consequence so everyone seems to come across a bit like horny teenagers.

    • @Gar1onTabletop
      @Gar1onTabletop 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Fallout has a similar 'open world with actions earning approval' thing, so it's possible to skyrocket your approval in a short space. But Mass Effect has romance progression linked to story progression, meaning while several characters are into Shepherd, you have very limited chances to pursue them and you need to 'set it up' before those chances come up. Maybe I'm biased towards Mass Effect romance because Tali'Zorah is one of my favourite characters ever, but I definitely see the comparison to Fallout. I think just because they all offer it at once here. You can't get any kind of 'drip-feed' of romance propositions when camping is a universal event for them, and they all seem to wait until the party to try it on. Astarion trying it on the first time we camped felt more natural, because he was the only one and it was oppurtunistic.

  • @megacharicificvalley
    @megacharicificvalley 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    40 min episode, amazing when you can die/turn into a mindflayer on any given day, i think being horny and acting on it immediately is quite justifiable yeah the alternate vampire reveal scene you got meant you couldn’t get a couple really big astarion approval boosts, that sucks. hopefully you get other good opportunities for that. big fan of his rejection dialogue though, that was funny wyll being a devil and not a tiefling is immediately apparent to everybody in-universe, although I don’t know what the distinction is. i have been assuming it’s curvier horns and the particular location and shape of the ridges (personally i think the developers were cowards, should’ve given him wings and more devil stuff). so i think that excuses him somewhat here, although not in that first meeting with karlach. there i assume he was conflating devil and tiefling because he was in denial and still wanted to listen to mizora. other than that, the writing surrounding wyll is pretty much the one flaw i have with this game- player dialogue options and reactivity surrounding him feel mediocre. for romances, if you agree to several propositions, you choose when going to sleep who you want to be with. you can have multiple relationships for some time until a character gives an ultimatum also all the companions are pansexuals, happy pride <3

    Well. That was certainly something. Still, let's go, tiefling lesbians! Karlach seems so happy when Eve confesses to her! Speaking of which: It's interesting that she's the only companion where deciding to spend the night together is a romantic confession, not making or accepting a more... physical proposition. I don't know if this is connected to the social stats, Karlach's overheating condition, or nothing at all, but it makes this feel much more like the start of a romantic partnership than the other options. I like it!

    in multiplayer, the person initiating the conversation gets to choose dialogue options, and other players can spectate on the scene and show which option they would want to pick. an interesting thing is that approvals are per player, not shared by the party, so it’s harder to have a lot of characters at high approval to you (plus you bring less npcs in your adventuring party since there are more player characters)

  • @jcohasset23

    The comments of all the tieflings back in the Grove remind me of the random npcs the player could talk to in Fallout: New Vegas with many of them commenting about something the player had done or something going on in the game world at the time. It's a nice touch added to BG3 to make the npcs feel like people instead of random nobodies.

    It's nice to see that the game has many options to prevet you from missing out on character reveals. Also might i recommend swapping your party around as you travel, you sometimes get new insight on places you pass and exp is shared across all party members to it won't hold you back. This way you could sometimes add gale or will to the party and you get too seemore about their stories. I found it a lot of fun playing this way, and usually swap after a short rest.

    • @Gar1onTabletop
      @Gar1onTabletop 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm unlikely to do that because the battles are hard enough that I feel I need a balanced party. I could swap party members right before a fight/challenge, but that feels a bit cheap.

    • @jcohasset23
      @jcohasset23 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It would be easier to do if there were 5 slots to a party as the combination Geran has been using for roles does work very well for Eve (Tank- Karlach, Ranged/Utility- Astarion, Blaster/Face- Eve, Support- Shadowheart). It's often one of the shortfalls of a 4 character party as doubling up on roles can really reduce the efficiency of a party in many encounters. Shadowheart is probably the npc that can be replaced the easiest if a melee ranger or a tanky druid joined the party.

    • @Gar1onTabletop
      @Gar1onTabletop 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good assessment. Shads definitely contributes the least in combat, especially with the MASSIVE abundance of healing items. As Astarion has that Guidance item, maybe I *could* give Shads a break and take someone else out for a walk. Try out some of Gale's versatility.

    • @jcohasset23

      @@Gar1onTabletop In ways Cleric is like Bard in that unless they heavily specialize they can do some of everything and thus function well as Support but aren't really great at much. Out of combat they do have more options but depending on the campaign and party makeup it can make them not as useful in the group, especially here where healing potions can be thrown so multiple characters can benefit from them (I assume due to the high number of combat encounters in BG3 and the game not feeling like the player HAS to have a cleric in the party).

    • @freakingpices5780

      A handy tip if you are struggeling is to use a camp caster. Basicly a character that has buffs that last until long rest and just cast them on the whole party in camp at the beginning of the day. (You could use a hireling for it or gale if he doesn't join you). But even if you don't use a camp caster, i found casting the aid spell first thing in the morning always handy and worth using your highest level spellslot for it.. (Cleric spell that gives extra max hitpoints)Just having more durability that way goes a long way, especially since you can heal them back. Another good one is longstrider, that gives an extra 10 ft. of movement that lasts all day.

    So the game is now trying to make up for missing rests by sticking all three of these things into one. I expect you could keep going around and eventually get the vampire and devil conversations out of everyone, as you did the visitor by going back to Astarion.

    This was really interesting. A nice insight into everyone's minds. I also enjoyed hearing Eve's backstory here. I really like the idea of a warlock who gets her powers from one source and just kind of lets everyone assume they're from something else. It feels very organic in terms of storytelling, too. Everyone is beginning to open up and there was a good prompt for it. If Eve had her backstory coded into the game, this is probably where it'd come up.

    Accidentally setting off traps... isn't that the purpose of traps, to be accidentally set off?😊

    "Has: Permanently Armed" just means you can't Command it to Drop its teeth and claws. Ooh. I've only ever rescued them or delivered the chest unopened as they were trying to do. I had no idea what was in it. There must be some limit to what it can be used against.

    Is there something already in the flask or is it empty? Also, ain’t it always the way, you refuse to use a power that’s definitely going to corrupt you down the line, but it’s heavily implied you should be using it.

      Y'know, I've done another recording since this video, and I completely forgot to check the flask. I'll try to remember to check it next time I play.

    My friends and I are new to paper RPG games, and we were wondering how to manage fights with a low number of powerful enemies. It seems that the action economy in DnD is tailored in such a way, that fights are almost always optimised around a group of enemies rather than one Big Bad Guy. Fights like the one with Flind and her (yes, Flind is cannonicaly a female gnoll) small army is one way to tackle it, you create one fairly strong opponent and surround it with a fair amount of smaller guys that should act as distraction and hope that your party is out of area of effect spells which could easily trivialise the whole encounter.

      Flind is a species, rather than a name. She may be female, but she is *a* flind. Action economy is...tricky. I've designed a few boss fights against a single powerful enemy, and each one I gave the boss some tricks that help balance the fight. For one it was an assassin in a warehouse who'd hit and run, jumping back into the rafters. She had to be pinned down for the party to be able to consistently attack her. The second had various control moves (like knocking foes back, disarming, moving around despite opportunity attacks, etc). He was very also very difficult to bring force to bear against.

      If players/npcs are being smart a "surround and pound" is typically going to be more effective than splitting up due to DnD's action economy. It's why a lot of challenging creatures/bosses that are designed to be attacked with a full party have lair abilities, extra abilities, or can sometimes even take multiple turns in a round because otherwise they don't really stand a chance. An exception to "surround and pound" can be when using strategy to lock down an enemy or player to keep them from being the most effective. Another thing to do as a DM in managing fights is to use terrain/surroundings to advantage with ambushes, reinforcements, cover, misdirection/distractions, etc so that even if there is only a lower number of strong enemies it still makes a challenge for the party (as an example in the campaign I was in we were going after an opposing party and a few rounds in an enemy rogue we were unaware about attacked from hiding/invisibility our backrow by shanking the cleric). Force instances when the player group has to split up to succeed. Leveled npcs can actually be difficult to play effectively because the DM isn't as familiar with all the options the npcs have for skills and spells compared to character party members so especially in returning antagonists it does well for the DM to sit down and essentially character sheet them even if most of the information may never be used. Also equip npcs appropriately for their level because players are certainly going to use their equipment to its fullest. Finally as DM, it's worth knowing what the goal of each npc is during the fight- if it's to kill the player characters and/or friendly npcs then they need to be trying to do that; if it's escaping then that is what they need to be doing; stalling the players so that X happens on X turn then do so; etc. Some npcs are going to be mindless or are so focused on something they have no strategy but having npcs be smart and use strategy will elevate things quite a bit and not every encounter has to end with the other side being destroyed.

    Nah, "draugr" are a completely different thing from "duergar." The first one would undead that featured in Elder Scrolls (but didn't originate there). You may or may not already have seen the key to the book. I don't know if you have it. My monk hasn't decided if he wants to open it or not. You don't really want us tell you if he is or isn't a companion. I'll say there is a part Volo might play, depending on what you do.

    --He got out on his own? Wow. That... might affect things? "Evil and good" is just harder to say because of the "ndgo" in it. No need to go into the whole thing, there's loads of science around plosives and fricatives and language development. "Easier" leads to "that's the wrong way 'round."
