Yes, each group of goblins/etc. can be dealt with separately, so they may not all be immediately hostile, as you saw with the quest branch completion and the "temporarily hostile" marker. Water bottles can be thrown just like potions, to clean away acid (and blood), so I have a few of those on each party member.
As a cleric Ela had access to sending right? Imagine her just contacting her daughter asking what she is up to, while she is performing genocide. Also fun tip since you seem to enjoy approaching from high places. you can shove them to trow them down and fall damage is good way to kill stuff.
Sorry fixed the spelling. and it's quite useful in baldurs gate 3, since it only cost a bonus action it's a good option if you don't have another use for it that turn.
