When the sun gets over the yardarm I'll pour some Springbank and remember this review.
Cheers Chuck! You enjoy sir!
Good to know the good first impression continues for you. A delicious delicious dram which I wish was much more easy to find. Cheers!
I agree. I wish it was more widely available to the masses to enjoy. Someone so special about Springbank. Cheers.
I haven't tried it yet, will have to get on that!
Steve not cracked his bottle yet? Better get to it gents!
@@SeawayWhiskyWire Ha, I seldom know what he's brining... usually a surprise! At least I know one bottle he's got in the pipe now!
Excellent shoot out of two whisky bruisers! Both sound good to me. A bit embarrassed to admit, I have a standard A'Bunadh and Benromachs 10 and 15 on the shelf, as yet unopened. Hoping to get some 'malt mates' time over the coming holidays to crack a few of these dust collectors! Worst of the snow missed us here over the weekend, but Winter is definitely lurking around the corner. Piles of the white stuff on the way...GAK. Cheers Ty, and here's to a great week ahead...🥃🥃 "m"e 🇨🇦
Get into them Marian! Nothing like sharing a little Christmas Cheer! Was in the GTA on business this past weekend and managed to miss the snow until I returned to the Seaway. We got a few inches. Just enough to my in Christmasy. Cheers
Thanks for your review Tyler 🎉 the difference is that Springbank is distilled 2.5 times instead of the regular double or triple distillation like it's neighbours 🥃
Thanks for the comment Mauricio, I did know this about Spingbank. Longrow is distilled twice while Hazelburn is distilled three times. Cheers!
Great video, lots of good notes, and love the whisky. Glad you have a great dram to enjoy. Stay warm!
Thanks Jon, I must drink this bottle sparingly as I am not sure when I will be able to replace. Really enjoying the journey working through it. Cheers.
Keep that bottle out, I'll be there by midnight! 😜 I've had one chance to experience Springbank CS 12, when we were in Saint John NB a few years back. Haven't had anything like it, before or since. I do have the Longrow and the Hazelburn 10 on the shelf, but nothing has compared to that wee dram. One day perhaps... Fantastic review Ty, cheers! 🥃🥃 "m"e 🇨🇦
Thanks for sharing M! Heard lots of great things about the Springbank 12 CS. Can’t wait to explore more expression from all their lines. Cheers.
It's no wonder you are grinning through this whole thing!! 😁 Cheers, to an iconic whisky 🥃
Indeed. I was grinning like a butchers dog all the way through the review! Excellent dram.
Congrats, man. Cheers to your health.
Well I have to be honest I drank a lot of Ardbeg but not the An Oa. I usually go for the 10, uigedail or corryvreckan. How does the an oa compare with the uigedail/corryvreckan? The wee beastie is not so bad too, her it'd only like 40-55€ max. And the 10 is between 55€ and 65€ max Edit: you have the ledaig 10 and bunnahabhain 12 there to on the shelf I see.
Hello. The An Oa is great. I did a full review on it on the channel too as well as the Bunna 12. Please feel free to check them out. Ledaig is coming ip soon. Cheers.
I subbed, I like to help smaller revieuw channels, but before I watch this the 2013 is a lot better than the 2012 and better than the 2011 too. Lets see what you think of it now, because I love it! Edit I bought today another 1 and it's €84 and the classic laddie is like €64 max. I like the Islay barley also a lot more. But Classic Laddie you can have here for 20 to 30€ cheaper, so yeah I get that bottle too for people that don't drink Scotch often come over. The Classic Laddie and the Arran 10y are very good for the new guy/women that would like to try a Scotch single malt.
I definitely agree. I enjoy the Islay Barley more so than the Classic Laddie. Thanks for subbing and supporting the channel. Really appreciate it. Cheers.
MGP can’t go wrong.
I hear that! Cheers!
How heavy is the heavy cream you used?
35% Milk Fat. But you can use half and half too.
Yummy
Cheers.
Dessert in a glass... I remember drinking these WAY back, when sweet cocktails were all the rage. The black Russian was my preferred choice. Thanks for the Copper Rose mention. They're now on my radar! Cheers, to disco drinks 😊 Marian 🇨🇦
Thanks Marian. Both a lovely cocktail. Glad you are interested in checking out Copper Rose too. Cheers
Thanks for the video. I live just outside Windsor, Ontario and I have never heard of Copper Rose Distillery. Just Google Mapped it and it is literally downtown on its main street. I love being surprised and thanks for the stocking stuffer idea.
Glad to hear you discovered them Chris. I met the owner at my local LCBO where I grabbed the bottle. Was a little more then I usually pay for vodka but I like to support small craft distilleries. It's a great product. Cheers sir.
Dreary here as well. Chores and errands done, now a great day to kick back and catch some content. I don't have a lot of bourbon on the shelf. Of those I do have, my favourites are... Wild Turkey 101 (WT Rare Breed runs second to this for me) Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Four Roses Single Barrel I prefer less sweetness, so I appreciate this review. Probably not for me. We were recently over the border and checked out a few of the liquor stores. Grabbed a High West Campfire, which is a smokey blend. Haven't cracked it yet. Hope it's a good one! Have you ever tried it? Also scooped an anCnoc 12 at 43 ABV. It's only 40 here, when you can get it. So THAT was a find! Enjoy the rest of your weekend Ty. Cheers...🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Thanks for the comment Marian! I a just starting to venture into bourbon so I don’t have a ton of favourites. Yellowstone select is one. Markers Mark and old Ezra 7 would top my list. I must grab a bottle of Rare Breed. Where about are you in the US? Was just over there myself yesterday. Didn’t bring anything back but depending on where you are I can recommend some shops. Cheers.
@SeawayWhiskyWire We were in Grosse Pointe, Detroit MI, visiting a friend. We'll be back in that area some time over December. The shop was really disorganized. Spotted the one lonely anCnoc way up on a top shelf, amongst unrelated bottles. Suggestions of places to look would be greatly appreciated! 😉
I'm so fortunate to live close to Sons of Vancouver. If you are in Vancouver, do go to their tasting room!
Hi Steve. Thanks for the comment! Heck ya! Being a Canucks Fan and a Whisky Fan I have lots of reasons to get out there! Cheers. Thanks for the sub!
Awesome comparison man. The comparison to Benromach style peat is a good one and I'm sure will be music to the ears of any Benromach fans. I meant to mention in my video(but forgot) that some of the other distilleries that often use the same peat source as Meikle Toir(St. Fregus) are Ardmore, Lagg and occasionally Springbank. I can totally see the comparison to Ardmore peat smoke, it's in the same family but just to a lower degree. Awesome comparison man. Cheers buddy 🥃
Merci Matt. Loved your Master Class video also.
Nice review, I'm on the hunt to find the original, and turbo❤
Thanks very much Nixon! I definitely regret missing out on these releases. Glad I got a taste. Won’t make the same mistake twice. The Original is still available I believe. Cheers mate.
Excellent head to head on these two. Sherry with peat is generally my preference, but sounds like the original is giving it a run for it's money here. Cheers Ty! 🥃🥃 "m"e 🇨🇦
Indeed, I also usually lean towards the Sherry, but I was surprisingly underwhelmed by this one…I think if I put The Original vs the Benromach Peat Smoke Sherry Cask the Benromach would take it. Both are excellent releases in my book. Cheers M!
Meikle Tòir has not hit my shelves yet. The original sounded good, and you're right the turbo seems to be the one everyone wants to hunt down though. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jon, I am definitely kicking myself for missing out on the Turbo. The rest of the core seems to be available and all at sub $100. At a 5 year old age stamp added that’s good bang for your buck in my opinion. Cheers sir.
Great meeting you in person this morning! Favourably comparing the original Meikle Tòir to Benromach is a great selling point in my books.
Yes sir. Great to meet and share a wee dram, will be a longer visit next time for sure. I am very happy with these releases and will be all over this year release. Cheers Chuck.
I take a pour of Old Parr 12 and add a dribble of the 105, Freakin delicious. Cheers
Very interesting. I have heard of folks doing this but have not tried it. I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
Cool they sent you this. I've seen this on the shelf, but very little information. I love high AB Rye. Thanks for sharing, I may need to pick this up. Cheers!
Rye on my self is a crowed landscape but this is one of my favourite non Canadian ryes.cheers Jon. Appreciate your support sir.
A favourite of mine, but lately it seems many have lost their interest in it. Good to know you enjoy it too!
Thanks Jon, Glenfarclas is a favourite of mine and I am always happy with what they put out. Some complain about sulphur yet I never seem to get these in my bottles. Just a classic dram that I love and am familiar with. Cheers sir.
I just tried the 101 for the first time last weekend. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jon, definitely giving some bourbons on my shelf a run for who gets poured. I am very pleased with the products that they are turning out. Cheers.
Another enjoyable review. Cheers!
Merci mon Amie! It is becoming difficult to find anything that Glenfarclas puts out that I am not content with. A great classic sherried Speyside malt. Cheers Chuck.
Looks like the GF 25 is widely available at LCBO at the moment, only $500...🤪 Which actually isn't bad for that age statement these days. Wee tad outside of MY budget though! I have never tried Glenfarclas. I do have the 15 year old stashed, as yet unopened. Hoping to break into it this year. Don't have a lot of whisky chums to share with, so progress tends to be a bit slow. I'm very glad you talk about adding water to high strength whisk(e)ys. It seems to be a badge of honour with some folk to not do so. I'm more aware, especially as I get older, that I have one liver to last one lifetime. I want to be sipping whisky right up until the end. Depending on what I'm drinking, I usually add two drops at a time to bring down the strength. This takes a while, but there really is a sweet spot you hit at a certain point, where the consistency and mouth feel changes. Ribs! 😋 Cheers Ty, and enjoy your weekend! 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Thanks for the comment and sharing Marian. Ok. Before the end of 2024 you must try to get into the Glenfarclas 15, especially around Christmas. It is one of my absolute favourites and as I have said all too many times...its like Christmas in a glass. At least for me. I appreciate the comment about adding water. I firmly believe whisky, especially cask-strength needs water to be fully appreciated. Basge of honour or not its a fact that alcohol numbs your taste buds, so the water is essential to fully experience all there is to offer. Cheers M! Was awesome to chat on Jon's live stream earlier this week. All the best.
@SeawayWhiskyWire Jon's lives are epic. Great to touch base with you there as well. I'd love to hang out with that crew from Sons of Van, they're so knowledgeable and a ton of fun 😊
A sour whisky for a whisky sour...? 🤔 I have very few blends floating around, as much due to limited space as anything else. CS Prohibition has been of interest, but I doubt I'll be adding it to the collection. In T.O. on business this weekend. Hoping to stop by Allen's on the Danforth for a dram. They have a wicked whisky list. Last time I got to sip a 25 year old Brora 1975-2001. It was, quite simply, a beautiful thing. Cheers Ty 🥃😊🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Enjoy your time in Toronto Marian and hopefully you were able to get to Allen’s for a dram. I’ll have to check it out next time I am down that way. Cheers.
I'm not a rye or bourbon drinker, but I appreciate your reviews of non-Scotch whisk(e)y. It never hurts to know what's out there. Cheers!
Thanks Chuck. I am primarily a scotch guy as well but am always up to expand my horizons. Proof and Wood sent this over for review and it's a tasty one for Fall. But on another note. I will make arrangements to pick my my bottles from you sir. Cheers.
I just can't bring myself to do it, I have a bottle of Ezra Brooks Single Barrel Cask Strength 124 proof for $54.99 and is quite tasty. The Ezra Brooks 7yr Old Ezra Bourbon 117 proof is $79.99 I just can't bring myself to spend the extra $25! and if I were I would get the bottle of Old Forester Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky Barrel Strength134.9 proof Ive been eyeing for about $4 more. Great review and 🥃Cheers!
Thanks for sharing Frank and the kind words. I enjoy this bottle but I understand the price jump and the many different options that are in a similar range. Cheers.
Nice one Tyler, good idea for a vertical. I haven't had the 12 in years but the Prohibition is one of my favourite blended whiskies. Cheers!
Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised by all the expressions. The Prohibition is excellent and makes a great cocktail also. Cheers.
Fun walk through. One I have never done. I've brought Cutty Sark home a few times, it seems like Channels in the UK really enjoy it. I have learned to, but was not my favourite for a while. Now, that sourness is looked for. Cheers!
Thanks Jon. The sourness is interesting. Not the greatest sipper but will be trying it in some cocktails to see. All and all they are decent blends. Thanks for the comment. Cheers to your Sunday.
Great review. I almost picked that one up.
Definitely interesting. Just not sure the price is justified.
40 creek
Which expression?
I loved the Rye... too bad its sold out everywhere now
No more at the distillery?
@@SeawayWhiskyWirenope, sold out in a few weeks
@ wow. Same as the oats.
Whew...smokin'! Nice comparison to celebrate the season. The Ten is definitely a fave. Gonna be up in your neck of the woods (sort of) over Halloween. Driving to Arnprior to visit a friend for a few days. Long haul from London, but it should be a beautiful trip with the fall colours. Cheers Ty 🥃😁🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
I love my 10 for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the Wee Beastie too. Love the fall colours, enjoy your trip through the valley. Cheers.
First review, eh? Not too shabby at all! 😉 "m"e 🇨🇦
Lol. I would disagree haha. That Tyler had no idea how much fun he had ahead of him. Thanks M.
I don't even need to pour anything to smell what's in front of you. The aroma is seeping out of my monitor.😂
There was definitely no question that I was tasting Ardbeg!
All great offerings.
Indeed sir. Love the peat.
I got 2 of your fall picks🍁 nice video!! Happy fall my friend.
Great to hear Nixon! Which ones you got my friend? Cheers.
I'm not ready to push the peat freak button quite yet! Still enjoying the heavier sherried offerings as the weather cools down. Glen Scotia Victoriana leads, with Lindores (Casks of-Oloroso) holding a tight second. Don't have four of what you've got there. We did drive by the Gretzky distillery Sunday, but didn't stop in. Next time we definitely will though. My 2021 Ledaig 10 is simply wonderful. Nice to see you having fun with the graphics. Cheers, to Autumn leaves!! I see a whole lot of raking in our futures 😂 Marian 🇨🇦
Thanks for tuning in Marian, heard some great things about on the Victoriana and must try it one of these days. I am experimenting with my editing a bit. Always trying to up my game lol. Thanks for all your support. Cheers.
Hi, can I use all brandy for this? Or Brandy and bourbon? I am not a fan of rum
Hi Trish. I would recommend sub rum for bourbon and brandy but not just one. I feel you need the bourbon to get the best profile. Cheers.
3.25% milk is something I’ve never seen before. I guess it’s whole milk as you said, I’ve just never seen it labeled that way before haha it threw me off
Lol. Hope you make some this year for the holidays. You won't regret it. Cheers!
That looks amazing!
In a month from now it will taste amazing too. Cheers.
Isn't half and half just half heavycream and half while milk? Why not just use all half and half?
Whole Milk is 3.25%, half and half is 10% and heavy cream is 35%. I guess it would work out similar but I feel the mouth feel would suffer. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.
Just put up TWELVE 32oz Mason Jars: 9 with Myer's Dark Rum/Bulleit Bourbon/Hennesey Cognac 3 with Kraken Rum only Ought to go well with the "Apple Pie Moonshine" I made back in June.
Wow! Sounds Great Dave! I must give the Kraken a try...maybe next year. Cheers and thanks for the comment.
Finally broke 300 subs...freaking YAY! Happy to be part of it. I know it's a hard slog growing a channel, but you are obviously enjoying yourself and that's the main thing. I have the Classic Laddie and the Bere Barley. They're great, though not favourites. One day I hope to try The Black Arts release, likely through a friend or at a whisky bar. WAY out of my price range otherwise. 😞 Hopefully you got to see The Water of Life: A Whisky Film, about Bruichladdich. Riveting documentary. Another excellent review, Ty. Keep 'em coming! 🥃🥃 "m"e 🇨🇦
Thanks M! I'll do my best! Cheers and Thanks for all your support.
Fascinating! Unfortunately, I know exactly what my wife would say if I proposed taking up that much space in the refrigerator for that length of time. (Yes, I know I could halve, quarter or eighth the recipe, but where's the fun in that?)
I hear you Chuck. Lucky for me I made it before Mrs Seaway could stop me lol.
This just looks delicious! My Dad (long gone now) used to make something similar for x-mas every year. That, and advocatt. I have no idea what liquors he added, but it was always wonderful. I agree with the Goslings. We visited Bermuda about 12 years ago, and brought back a few bottles of both dark and light. It's a lovely rum. By the way, that Stone Fence is likely going to be a new fave 😁 Cheers Ty, and hope your week goes great! Marian 🇨🇦
Thank you so much Marian for sharing. I should do an advocatt recipe, made one a few years ago but switched to the aged eggnog for the gift giving and sharing aspect, also most of my friends aren’t fans of the Dutch egg liqueur. Goslings just goes well with eggnog, I tried Appletons last year and was just not happy with it. Buffalo Trace is another non negotiable as the flavours just scream holidays to me. I really must try cognac in a batch just to say I tried it. Glad you like the stone fence, fun little trick, sub the whisky for rum and you get a stone wall! Glad you are enjoying the content. I truly enjoy making it! Cheers M!
