Best English language website about Opus Dei.
_Opuslibros.org_
Most comprehensive source for accurate information about Opus Dei. Includes many testimonies from former members. The “Correspondence,” “Your Writings,” and “Vocation Trap” sections are the most useful. It is a Spanish language website. However, by right-clicking and choosing “Translate to English,” Google provides a decent although imperfect translation.
*Best Books*
_Beyond the Threshold: A Life in Opus Dei_ , by Maria del Carmen Tapia.
The book Opus Dei hates more than any other. Ms. Tapia simply recounts her experiences of Opus Dei and Josemaria Escriva. The problem with this book, for Opus Dei, is that Ms. Tapia paints a picture of Josemaria Escriva which is very much at odds with the false hagiographies it pushes. And her writing is eminently believable. This book may be out of print, but used copies are generally available on Amazon.
_Saints & Schemers: Opus Dei and Its Paradoxes_ , Joan Estruch.
1994 Oxford University Press book that traces the many contradictions in Opus Dei’s telling of its early history. Out of print, but available used on Amazon.
_Opus Dei as Divine Revelation: Analysis of Its Theology and Its Consequences in Its History and People_ , E.B.E.
Former South American member of Opus Dei provides an accurate understanding of how Opus Dei sees itself. This book may be of interest principally to former members of Opus Dei. For anyone looking for a deep dive.
NOT RECOMMENDED
_Opus Dei: An Objective Look Behind the Myths and Reality of the Most Controversial Force in the Catholic Church_ , John Allen, Jr.
John Allen is an excellent journalist. Unfortunately, he widely missed the mark in this book. Kudos to the Opus Dei PR team for dodging a bullet!
_Anything approved of or promoted by Opus Dei or its members_
These works are pure hagiographies and do not even mention (let alone explain or contextualize) Josemaria Escriva’s many and serious defects. The histories of Opus Dei written by Opus Dei members or sympathizers omit so many important details that they can only be described as materially false.

Does somebody know if JD Vance is in opus dei?
In Venezuela a journalist from “el nacional” asked him where the money to fund his centers was coming from. He went ballistic 🤣!!!
I left the Work as a numerary decades ago. I realize I have never really unpacked it all. It’s a bad memory and I did my best not to think about it. I’m greatly blessed with an awesome wife, many kids and now many grandchildren. And a fulfilling career. A great life. I kind of shudder thinking what my life would have been if I hadn’t packed my bag and snuck out of Riverside when no one was looking! Thank you for these videos. Transparency and honesty are a blessing - something completely foreign to what I experienced in OD.
Oh piss gay
In my country (Poland) there should be now around 100 people thinking about joining Opus Dei. How many around the World..
Opus Dei is not changable so its better it doesnt exist. If not, there will be still people with broken lifes, mental problems etc....
Thank You for this.. I waste my life in Opus Dei, now I dont know who I am and where to go, and where to look for help.. Could you pray for me guys?
Yes. Also, if you join the Opus Dei Exposed subreddit on Reddit, you will find a lot of former members who support each other and help each other process their experiences.
@@nopusdei Thank You, I am already there :)

I agree on what you are stating here. One thing I started to question is why JoseMaria was refer almost as a god.
Thank you for your insight. I was a supernumeray for more than 40 years. A few times I wanted to quit. Finally in 2020 The Lord made me quit completely from the Catholic Church. I am glad and happy with my relationship with God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
❤❤❤
Cult experts classify Opus Dei as a cult
My experience was maybe a bit different as a woman (ex-numerary). Opus dei priests and numerary spiritual directors perseverated on anything related to sex. Opus dei priests asked very detailed questions regarding sexual history during initial encounters with nonmembers. This was extracted deceptively under the guise of confession and then documented carefully if they felt you had the potential to become a member. Opus dei confessions are not so secret 😅
Hi, do you know if the Heritage Foundation is associated with opus dei? The language in Project 2025 seems very Opus Dei-ish. It’s main architect, Kevin Roberts, apparently receives regular spiritual counseling from OD so that made me wonder if they have close ties. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin is a member.
We must tax the church
its a cult within a cult
🙏🙏🙏🌟🌟🌟Thank you for this. Narcissists are hopeless at deep connection, but excel at fame.
This was very interesting.
they will also (in Emmaus PA- which is run by them) hack your computer, feed you lies, steal your credit card (and local police do nothing after you give them very specific info on it), and try over and over again to use bait-and-switch games to try to trick you into going onto one of their NAMBLA/child porn sites. They just never stop. it is called blackmail. and all cults and secret societies do it. that is why they are crime organizations.
You possibly could add Mother Theresa to your pantheon of shams . As a young doctor I was nearly canvassed by a fellow doctor Numinary to join OD . He lived with them , an odd but very determined character . Luckily for me I desisted .
I'm glad did not get sucker into Opus Del Cult
opus dei is pure evil. and the church has been pretty horrible and murderous long before this full-blown insanity started. the whole thing needs to go.
Did Opus Dei help the Heritage Foundation write Project 2025? This 900+ book shows how Donald Trump will take over the U.S.
OD is frightening. It’s the same with all extreme religions. They fall for the sense of being in. Yes they are in successful businesses etc. so are the Mormons. they do it for themselves. It’s self love Period
May I ask the title of the book from Oxford University press 19946
Saints and Schemers by Joan Estruch
Over 30 would be a good policy.
Beyond the threshold
Dude, none of these videos explain anything about Opus Dei. I'm more confused now than when I arrived.
You might want to take another look at the start of each video where he makes it clear that explaining what OD is isn’t what his videos are about. There are plenty of other videos made for that purpose. These are for people already familiar with the Work.
@@bradlarsen5337 He doesn't explain anything. That's the problem. I'm just a guy who likes to learn, and these videos are exhausting to watch. It's like those videos about the Popes where they just say "oh, he traveled a lot, he smiled a lot, he prayed a lot," etc. I want to know *ABOUT* the issue or topic. Give me some theology or tell me a story about exactly what happened. Until then, it just comes off as vague and standoffish.
Again, I don’t think these videos are meant for you my friend. For me and others who know the Work well as insiders, this makes perfect sense and is very helpful and encouraging! God bless!
@@bradlarsen5337 That's all fine and dandy, but these comments aren't shedding any more light on the situation. In fact, they make this whole thing seem as shady and dodgy as you're trying to make Opus Dei out to be. That's the most ironic (and frustrating) part of the whole ordeal.
@@ignatiusjackson235I think we’ll need to agree to disagree. Do you have experience inside Opus Dei? I’m guessing not. Those of us who do find these videos helpful indeed. And he’s not saying the Work is all bad, on the contrary I find them a very balanced and charitable take.
@nopusdei I recently watched Harrison Butker's controversial speech and it was pointed out that he referenced "Saint" Josemaria Escriva twice by a commenter. He uses Opus Dei lingo as well. I noticed Butker has also spoken in several interviews that he aspires to Sainthood. (he has referred to his backlash as persecution & relates it to martyrdom 🙄) It seems he is working on the requirements. Additionally he is close to Josh Hawley whom he has named as his mentor. The speech was more of a right wing political rant. Hawley has publicly commended Butker on numerous occasions. In a response to backlash from a prior commencement speech, Butker stated "all publicity is good publicity." He claims God has called him to speak out, and gave him his NFL platform to reach more people with his hard truths. (he claims to be an introvert and is succumbing to God's will, over his own) He seems to be building a platform to shift into a political career? Curious if you watched the speech, and picked up on what appears to be an alignment with Opus Dei agendas?
My parents being devout Opus Dei members ruined my entire childhood.
I liked his teachings from the way
@NopusDei sadly, so many leaders of the various movements in the Church today. A great example is Frank Pavone, pro-life leader who was recently laicized by the Vatica due to persistant disobedience and not living up to his priestly duties. However, he loved the title and privileges he got.
Thomas Aquinas existed hundreds of years before the Jesuits.
Thanks! If you watch the video again, you will see that I already corrected that error.
@@davidgilbert9606yea I did. I’m debating joining Opus Dei. Anyway I can contact you?
Is this similar to the Neocats ( Neocatechuminate ) do you think/ know ?
I don't know much about the Neocatechuminate. My sense, in general, is that a lot of the new movements that seemed so promising and were so loved by JP II turned out to be cesspools of abuse and manipulation.
Yes, it is similar to Neocats.
Gareth Gore Opus book scheduled for October release
It is said "it is your vocation" and you do not doubt or question this.
This kind of explains people in the military always can spot other veterans and other members every morning you do PT half awake and chant cadances for American and become super patriotic i dont even like politics too much but ever since i joined ive leaned more right however i recently came to christ and been looking up things of the catholic church the devils trying to break it down but he wont prevail god bless you brother
What's the title of the book written by the Carmelite on the universal call to holiness?
The book I reference is titled "Union with God According to St. John of the Cross" by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdelen. It is not a book on the universal call to holiness in Carmelite spirituality per se, but the introduction mentions that St. John of the Cross taught that his doctrines applied both to religious and laypeople. St. Theresa of Avila had similar ideas and did not think that the heights of mystical union were reserved for religious but could also be achieved by laypeople in the middle of the world.
@@davidgilbert9606 Thank you. Nonetheless, St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross were firm believers in the "state of perfection"; the monastic contemplative life being the highest possible ideal and the lay state something for people who are less spiritually developed. It is indeed striking that when St. Josemaria went to Rome to present the Work he was told he had arrived 60 years early. St. Josemaria was without a doubt the main proponent of the universal call to holiness before it was fully embraced by Vatican 2. I firmly believe he was a prophet. I am thinking of joining the Work but I am watching your videos to have all the possible info, and I appreciate your testimony.
The vatican is Satan, the snake👽😈
Ex-numerary here. I agree with you. I don't have stats but 70-90% sound right. Opus Dei will be able to produce stats but never will release them. I remember when I was in OD a rabid Spanish numerary insisting to a non member that very few left. He had been trained to repeat that as a mantra. Poor guy.
These videos are really important, especially for the ex numerary assistants who have recently spoken out. We’d be curious to see a new video to see what backlash you have received since coming forward. Your testimony is unique because you have put your face to it.
Thanks for your comment! I haven't received any real backlash. Sometimes people leave judgmental comments, but I don't worry about that. I used to erase those comments, but now I just don't care. I don't even remember the login for my channel, so I can't manage comments anyway. Opus Dei doesn't have any real power, at least in the U.S.. All members of Opus Dei can do to me is to judge me and perhaps say nasty things about me behind closed doors. I can handle people saying nasty things about me. I just don't care.
“Loyal to the Pope”, is all I needed to lose interest. Especially the current Pontiff.
How does it feel to be a Protestant?
How does it feel to be a Protestant?
Spoken like a modern-day Martin Luther.
I’ll be praying for you. I’m sad you went on that path, I it’s ok if ID wasn’t for you but I can assure you it is not bad, it is great and it does such an amazing job work. Everything about San José María is true and I really hope you are able to realize that some day. OD has helped me so much to love God and just in my life in the middle of the world. It doesn’t have to be necessarily your favorite but it’s another thing to o say that it lies and all that.
What if... you don't know what you don't know? What if you are judging by appearances and not reality?
My opinion right now is that the spirit of Opus Dei is good and goes to all people of good will. It’s the modus operandi and the vision of self its present in Opus Dei members. They really think they are The Way, The Truth and The Life and are absolutely blind about what’s outside their boundaries.
Oblation is like temporary vows and fidelity is permanent vows. No freedom to say no to this The only way the work will tell people to leave is if the person is mentally sick (depression) or exhibits weird behaviors, or social weirdness. No real discernment from the beginning
When I was in Opus Dei it was forbidden to have personal friends with the other numeraries. Even if it looked like that could be happening, there were accusations and gaslighting.
That’s called gaslighting
Somebody said this that helped me to see the truth, and I hope it helps many too: If you cannot say “no”, your “yes” means nothing. One other thing; if you’re thinking about joining Opus Dei just say no and see the reaction. if they keep pushing and pushing and pushing to exhaust the number of “no”, which it is a tactic they do.
Oh boy I was in Opus Dei in Spain for 13 years since I was 14 years old. I have been out of the work since 1994. And now, the past couple of years, I realized how hurt and abused I have been. All you say is true. Most of the healing needs to come after I can negotiate my resentment and anger and grief. All my family, parents, in laws, sisters, are part of Opus Dei still and it’s difficult to visit them without feeling somehow a villain. Oh well.
I am studying about the Holy Grail Bloodline. Do you know where I can learn more. Anything could help. Thanks
