I joined Opus Dei in 1979. The first video I watched of Escriva, I felt revulsion. He was irascible and screaming. I realized later on that I had developed a deep revulsion for Opus Dei, and because Escriva embodied Opus Dei, my feelings about Opus Dei projected on to him.
Actually, these videos were edited multiple times. I remember -from more than 20 years ago- that I was re-watching one of this “tertulias-video” and i was waiting for a scene (some of the hard parts), but it was gone: no hard parts, no less than perfect video. It was a Jose Maria Escriva video in Venezuela. It had some “internal comments” from Escriba to some numeraries, something about money (more than comments it was a strong scolding about one specific numerary -not by name-). The same when I saw an “Alvaro del Portillo´s VHS in Bogotá”: one first version complete, the second version strong edited.
Thanks for your comment! I remember an Escriva video from the Mexico City center of studies from 1970 (I think). It made a very big negative impression on me. I remember thinking, "Wow! This guy is a jerk!" I lost any ability to have devotion to him from that moment, even though I stayed in the Work for a few more years.

That story of the "gallina clueca" was at a "tertulia" in Chile. It's true.
