The Hurdles That Anita Baker Overcame
#AnitaBaker is an American singer-songwriter. She is one of the most popular singers of soulful ballads, especially renowned for her work during the height of the quiet storm period in the 1980s. Starting her career in the late 1970s with the funk band Chapter 8, Baker released her first solo album, The Songstress, in 1983. In 1986, she rose to stardom following the release of her Platinum-selling second album, Rapture, which included the Grammy-winning single "Sweet Love". Baker has won eight Grammy Awards and has four Platinum albums, along with two Gold albums. Baker is a contralto with a range of nearly three octaves.
Baker's mom was young when she had her so she was raised in Detroit, MI, by her aunt, Lois Landry (owner of a beauty salon), and uncle, Walter Landry (an auto worker) She identifies her aunt, Lois Landry, with whom Baker lived from early childhood to adulthood, as the individual whose love and encouragement most allowed her to develop her talent. Baker dedicated her landmark recording, 1986’s Rapture, to Landry. Although she was raised by her aunt she has no malice toward her mother.

#DavidRuffin was an American soul singer and musician most famous for his work as one of the lead singers of The Temptations. David was only a part of The Temptations for about four years but made such an impact that to this day people still connect Ruffin as the main lead singer of The Temptations. He put his mark on every song that he sang. His raspy and soulful tenor vocals were instrumental...

Even though I love Stacy Lattisaw's music to this day, I support her decision from backing away from the music industry. Who knows what sort of individual she would have turned into today.

Thank you so much h for taking this history on. Natalie was the goat. Her voice speaks for itself. She can stand toe to toe even outpace Aretha. Take care.

She made the best decision of all! She could have been as big and popular as Madonna and P. Diddy (who was even in her "What You Need music video) but her prudent decision not to sell her soul saved her. Plus, look at Madonna and P. Diddy today. It's not looking great for them despite all the money they have in the world. She would have gone down with them if she didn't quit. Much love and respect to her! I also believe she has always made wholesome music.

My sweet mom introduced me to Stacy’s music in the 80’s when I was still a little girl. She’s so awesomely talented & I still listen to her music. She’s such an amazing example for so many. Refusing to sell her soul in an industry known for just that puts her in a class all by herself. The BEST!❤
