Do you find these legs are the strongest? Im redoing my first cabinet. Its VERY heavy solid wood with 3 thick glass doors. I dont have the buffet so it needs legs but im scared if choosing ones that cant hold this type of weight + once its filled. Suggestions on legs?

I'm getting ready to also repurpose a top portion of a china cabinet/ hutch. It's VERY heavy solid wood and thick glass doors. What type of legs do you recommend?

Restore the top and place new veneer on the front. I will finish a second Lane chest in a row tomorrow. The first had sat in water and the legs and skirt were falling apart. It was made in 1944. The day I finished that chest my uncle gave me another lane chest. The veneer was missing from the lid and skirts. My uncle had put it in his yard on a broken pallet the legs were sitting in the soil. It was covered with an old tarp. When he mowed, he was blowing grass clipping under the tarp on the chest. The places where the veneer was missing had a green mold on the wood. It was full of ants and spiders snails crawling on it. My heart melted I thought it's beyond repair. I flipped it and seen it was made March 3rd 1925. 99 years old! I thought old fella I will try to save you. I was happy to see the wood under the mold was poplar. Cedar and poplar do not rot easy. I cleaned and sanded the wood put a fan on it 24/7. In my summertime hot shop dried the wood out well for a couple of weeks. The veneer on the body was perfect. It is rift cut white oak. I ordered new veneer Tighten all the loose joints. Had to cut off and replace the bottom one inch of one leg. I clear coat painted the underside to protect the chest in the future. Glued on the new veneer stained it. I want to add about 5 coats of wipe on poly. Tomorrow I will add two more coats. Tomorrow evening a super light sanding with 400 grit sanding sponge followed by a rub down with a rub down with high grade furniture wax. The old fella will be a gift to my wife and may it last well over 100 more years. May it honor the people who built it 99 years ago. Oh, both chests still have all of the original Lane paper tags hanging where they were placed at the factory when built.

Beautiful job!! Love the blue. I just bought a similar jewelry box that I'm going to makeover for my granddaughter in law. Did you do anything to the inside of the drawers, with the felt. I don't really want to leave it like it is, but not sure you can do anything with felt.

I have a cabinet door that has recessed panels. I can't seem to get them smooth without brush marks. Im acraid I'll need to spray it and didn't want to do that. How did yours looks so easy? Lol

People who paint over wood that beautiful disgust me…

I found that it helps to start with a heat gun and putty knife. You'll get the bulk of the shellac a lot quicker, and you can go in and finish with alcohol/sandpaper.

I’m afraid of removing the old shellac on my first antique flip because I love the existing color - does denatured alcohol not remove underlying stain?

Helpful! I'm removing shellac from a cedar bed frame today, and steel wool was a good bonus tip! I'm just going to stick with the shellac finish though and apply a fresh coat. I'm a big fan of shellac now that I've learned to use it.

Omg!! Beautiful!! I have a cedar chest thst was given to me. Its in pretty bad shape!! The lid came completely off. The wood split across the back. The entire chest is flaky, craclkly looking. Could you do a video showing how to replace the lid?

I’m about to paint a dark dresser like this one with the rattan inlays and wanting to paint it white. Do you think white on the rattan would make it look cheap? Perhaps I should go with your light tan color. That looks really nice.

I just think you need to use raw umber wax over it all and make it richer looking.

When using any cleaning product it’s a good idea to use a mask. People who use cleaning solvents regularly have a higher incidence of cancer. This was interesting to me bc I was a professional cleaner for a few years.
