The OLDEST Stained Glass Window in Great Britain?
All Saints Church in Dalbury, Derbyshire, is a charming parish church with roots stretching back to the medieval era. Established possibly in the 12th or 13th century, the church showcases architectural elements characteristic of the Norman and early English periods. Its enduring stone structure has been a central fixture in the tiny village of Dalbury for centuries, serving as a place of worship and community gathering through significant historical events and social changes.
A distinctive feature of All Saints Church is its stained glass window, which some believe to be among the oldest in any parish church in England. Although definitive sources are scarce to substantiate this claim, the window's intricate design and craftsmanship suggest a medieval origin. This venerable piece of art adds to the church's historical ambiance, offering visitors and parishioners alike a tangible connection to the past and a glimpse into the medieval artistry that has been preserved within its walls.

    Have you realized that when you put your hand in front of your lens the camera goes out of focus on the objects that you are trying to draw attention to and focuses on your hand instead? For the viewer this is quite annoying.

    • @timday
      @timday 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I noticed when editing, apologies - still getting used to my new camera which is very snappy with its focusing. I either need to tweak the focusing somehow or stop pointing 😂 - once again very sorry but I am aware of the issue.

    In Germany, it is good manners to take off your head covering when entering a church. It's a shame that the stained glass window was no longer visible. It looks as if the outer part in transparent glass is more recent and only the inner, figurative part with the bright red border dates from the Gothic period. What does it represent? It looks like an angel. Really fascinating!

    • @timday
      @timday 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think, but not 100% sure that the window is a depiction of St Michael.

    Shame you couldn't get some nice pictures. Are the repairs funded by the local people? Maybe that's why there are items for sale inside to pay for the repairs. They should all be protected by the National Trust. I wonder how many get sold every year.

Loved the drone footage by the way. 😊😊 Oh, and the symbols you were looking at stand for Alpha and Omega, two letters in the Greek alphabet and also how God is very often referred to. Overthinking compositions... something I very rarely do Tim - see the shot take it and look for another...like it . Interesting talk on actually seeing an image and then disappointed at the result when back home. I recently had the same sort of thing happen - I got so "into the scene" I grabbed my action cam and did a bit to camera. Got home processed the image and was not totally underwhelemed by it but didnt have that feeling I had when taking it? The shroom & the bridge worked well. atb Al

      Thanks Alan, it’s usually with woodland that I have mixed thoughts with images. But then I’ve never really been into to the pure woodland genre that most seem to be into now. That said I’m finding it’s happening more and with different images now, unsure if it’s me being over critical but that’s sort of the essence of this video I guess - simply take images and enjoy 😀
