- After recently buying a Google Pixel 7 to use with my mobile photography setup I head to Lumsdale Falls to see how it handles Waterfall Photography... one word... WOW!
Recorded March 2023
This is interesting! Thank you for sharing tim!
Thanks Kendrick 😊
Lovely images Tim. Great to see you back. You were my favourite U tuber until you disappeared.
Thanks for the kind words ☺️
Remarkable images from that phone 📲
Thanks mate, first as always 🥳. I knew the images would be decent from that phone but never expected that quality - it really takes phone photography to a new level.
Really nice shots Tim, 2 of my co-workers have Pixel phones and one of them asked me to come out and show him how to take Long Exposures with his new phone, but I don't think he will need help as that looked pretty straight forward.
Such an impressive phone, something they might benefit from is learning about good composition.
I'm liking the look of this phone.great photos tim keep up the good work
Thanks Dave 😊
Excuse the video quality, I'm playing with a new setup.
Good to see you back, Tim. You were missed
Thanks Stuart 😊, it's mainly the weather and a mild illness that's caused me recent problems.
no way that sharp images handheld with long exposure.
Handheld has been possible for a while with Apple's live photo feature although the resolution has never been great, it was only after I pulled the image from the pixel I realised just how good the pixel is at this. It really is remarkable.
Hi Tim, great video. I have purchased a pixel phone thanks to you 😊 can you tell me how you polarised the photo?
I need to claim some commission from Google 😁, it always makes me uncomfortable when people part with cash after watching one of my vids but it is a great phone.
There is a degree of luck when taking the shot as the processing is dependent on the phone. Always wise to take a few shots of the same scene and then pick the best. If all else fails apply some selective Dehazing on the water in Snapseed or Lightroom mobile.
@@timday hi Tim, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable, if not for you and your video I wouldn't have bought this camera and would have missed out on a little jem / life changing piece of wizardry. Probably get rid of my old DSLR equipment now, using this phone is so easy, such a joy and a lot lighter than carrying camera gear around.
Thanks again Tim, super vlogger.
Great stuff(!), Tim, love the composition on your final image. If you were to print such an image, how large (inches or A4, A3, etc.) , out of the camera, would you go and still retain such detail?
That’s a very good question, I only print large occasionally but I have prints from much older phones on my wall which were taken around five years ago that are A4-A3, I think anything passed A3 could be pushing it although I do have an A2 print which looks awesome. Printing as a whole I find is usually much more forgiving than others would suggest.
Nice shots Tim. Does this mean you're back on a regular basis again? 😁 I was looking to change phones to the Pixel 7 but have been dithering between the 7 and 7 pro. Does the latter produce RAW files? Not that it matters much to me as I still takes picture the old fashioned way with a digital camera 🤣 Was that Lumsdale? Is it open fully or just parts?
Illness and weather have kept me away over the last month, although I find any commitment to anything on TH-cam is a guaranteed jinx 😂.
Pro and the standard version of the pixel have very minor differences, the software is the same. RAW is offered in the main everyday mode and astro mode but not the long exposure mode. In my personal opinion the RAWs are a little weak, obliviously better than JPEG for editing but I have been unable to beat Google's processing of a JPEG as yet.
Yes it was Lumsdale, the lower section has been open for a while but the waterfalls past the ruins are closed off - there are one or two points that could be accidentally mistaken as unofficial entrances though.
@@timday 🤣 Got it - thanks ;-)
That’s incredible, is it the 7 pro?
No, just the basic 7 model which is even more amazing.
My neighbor's 9 year old girl has a Pixel 7 Pro (rich Dad) and is taking mind-blowing photos.. just point, let AI do it's thing, and voila, better than I could have done a few years ago with my 'old' iPhone 7 or 8 Plus using every bit of my experience, knowledge, and clever techniques using , Moment or Halide apps... where has the challenge gone? If we're simply 'results-oriented' rather than 'experience-oriented', then at some point, and very soon, there will be no point at all in taking to the field, or for the whole landscape photography adventure. I'm now 'downgrading' my gear just for this reason, looking for the satisfaction and challenge of using lower tech gear that requires some actual experience and photography acumen to come home with the image.. or possibly, some less than stellar images. But I'll have the sore feet and memories of a well-planned outing, and the thrill of anticipating everything coming together into a great shot. With AI, it's just a given, it's assumed. They're selling us AI, and somehow it cheapens the experience. We don't have to go down this path with photography. It's human to fail...we need to fail in order to learn and grow. And failure makes success all the sweeter. Thanks for suffering my rant.. 🙂
Well said, although my next video is photography with the Google 7 I have just purchased myself another Fuji X-T1 as my main camera so hopefully I can be forgiven 🤣. Totally agree with needing the challenge, something I've really started to enjoy recently is tactile buttons - an experience that's not available on a phone.
@@timday Really looking forward to your videos Tim. Anti-AI rant notwithstanding, on the other hand... aforementioned little girl with the Pixel 7 and her brother are so enthralled by what's they're able to photograph and the results, that they're actually getting out into nature to photograph more and more, and giving up XBox and PC Gaming.. so that's a huge positive. Stay awesome Tim.
