Looks like platinum, there’s still oxidized material coming out of it. And I can’t tell if that’s gold or not in the back, but gold and platinum typically are not found together like that. That would be REALLY lucky and maybe mean you need to start looking for the source.

The chain came from a window weight from an old window, early 1910's after that they use ropes with the weights.

There is some good history in Montana. Just as another person commented, there are Indian War relics to be found. When I lived in the treasure state, I was able to find some nice general service coat buttons, a Jeff Davis hat pin and a horse bridle rosette.
