    It is a gimmick, in parts the "smoke" looked good. I would say that not using oil will mean less smell, although I can't remember if my Hornby Pannier in the late 70s was overpowering in the smell department. Of course, you can run out of smoke oil, but water should be easier to find. Thanks for sharing!

      @richardskelton5119 it's better than oil, but yes I agree it's perhaps a gimmick, but a +ve one. What we do not know yet is will it still work in 10 years. HOW MANY PUFFS PER REVOLUTION OF THE WHEELS ? I think you mean "Smoke Generator". (Steam is water vapor, and emits from many parts of a steam loco, including the cylinders, and is white in colour !) Smoke puffs from the chimney and if its realistic it should "puff" in time with the revolutions of the driving wheels. Where a two cylinder loco puffs twice per revolution, a 3 cylinder loco 3 times. And of course the "Hush Hush experimental loco was a four cylinder Compound, so 4 puffs per revolution of the Driving wheels. Which also means the models Sound & Smoke emission needs to be timed accordingly, to be correct !!!

    • @vcs00railway
      @vcs00railway 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @railwaymechanicalengineer4587 the steam here is atomised water vapour, not smoke as such. I will leave Hornby to advise how many steam puffs from model to model. These are at the end of the day models, I would assume intended to convey an extra dimension, not necessarily accurate. I believe the steam is controlled by an optical sensor reading the speed of the driving wheels

    • @railwaymechanicalengineer4587
      @railwaymechanicalengineer4587 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@vcs00railway All the "Smoke Generators" I have come across (available from a number of European manufacturers for decades), use a type of light oil. The model locos chimney normally contains an electrically heated element to make the smoke. Never seen or heard of such an accessory utilising water, because it won't make realistic "smoke".

    One of the main downsides of the Rapido version is that you cannot change the couplings without breaking the model which is a downside for many

    • @vcs00railway
      @vcs00railway 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @pemboart true, if you didn't want the nem coupling they can be removed on the Rapido but there are no pockets. For me, what I liked about the Ellis Clark is the rivets really stand out, and I'm not a rivet counter! They just look better on the model, not that the Rapido is poor, 🤔 but it's a similar RRP

      @pemboart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vcs00railway Try removing the NEM screw without physically breaking the bottom detail. You can't. I even emailed Rapido about this directly who confirmed that it can't be done. Big design flaw in my opinion.

    RAILWAY LAW - & THE ADDITIONAL COST OF ANY DCC PARTS ! Until the Law was changed in 1978, interior lighting in railway carriages was not allowed during daylight hours (except for table & reading lights controllable by passengers). It was of course part of the Guards duties to switch train lights on and off for the passage of a tunnel. Further they gave Guards periscopes or lookouts, as Guards were also responsible for watching for lineside signals. These lighting regulations were in connection with the laws covering the duties of train Guards (who were called Guards because they were the train security Guard). Which did not normally allow a Guard to leave the vicinity of his Guards van, (as monies & mails might be carried) !!! So interior lights in Model carriages are virtually useless unless you operate your layout in the pitch darkness. Not itself a good idea, as sooner or later you will damage your layout or rolling stock. I think its time to put many of these absurd and unrealistic "gimmicks" to bed. Especially when a non "DCC" or "non Gimmick" laden version is not made available. This especially afflicts Locomotives, as I for one am sick and tired of having to remove the troublesome wiring method applied to all locos for the benefit of DCC users. And all that useless DCC junk adds at least 20% to the retail price !!!!

    • @vcs00railway
      @vcs00railway 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @railwaymechanicalengineer4587 I guess the manufacturer's can't please everyone. Personally, I run my trains far more in the evening when coach lighting would be on. As the Hattons coaches are supplied without lights, they cover either view point. If one doesn't want lighting, no need to fit it

  • @briancooper562

    One thing that is noticeable is the unconfortable ride the passengers get. On the real trains the buffers would be touching or preloaded by the connecting chain. On the model it would be good to have the 'D' 's of the coupling in contact at all times. This may be achieved by bending the hook section slightly to reduce clearance, use magnetic couplers, or a solid link replacing the couplings between coaches (drawbar). OK for short trains.

    • @railwaymechanicalengineer4587
      @railwaymechanicalengineer4587 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Buffers are RETRACTED out of use on stock fitted with Buckeye couplings, as the buffers cause derailments in curves if not retracted on such stock. What do you think the Pullman Rubbing Bar" is for ????

    Why didn't you buy the carriages fitted with lights? You wouldn't have had to do it yourself. I'm sorry, but I don't approve of two Guard's Vans being used. You only need one. The Luggage Van ought to be at the back of the consist. I'm not keen on the L & Y tank engine, even though the livery matches. Essentially, liveries don't have to match. A mismatched LMS Jinty would suit the coaches just as well, or a Tiny Terrier Tank Engine. Small tender engines suit the coaches too. I have a pair of 4-wheeled Hornby GWR coaches without lights, and a pair of LNER Teak 6-wheeled coaches with lights. Factory fitted lights work a bit better than lights fitted by you.

      @@vcs00railway Well I'm sorry but I don't approve of your guard's departure protocol - surely he should be calling "all aboard" only after he has blown his whistle and held his green flag at arm's length... Some commenters shouldn't be taken too seriously here :P 2 guard coaches and luggage at the front is the way I like my 4-wheel sets too, so I guess I'm also wrong. That consist looks absolutely mint, and if that's the only way to get working lights it is absolutely worth it. Is the flickering part of the circuit? And, have you considered changing the couplers for something with less of a gap?

    • @vcs00railway
      @vcs00railway 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @PalmersPhotos 😁 my son works for the railway so I ought to be better with the "all aboard " The lights do have a small stay alive capacitor but it's one size too small to carry enough charge. I changed one on another coach and the lights don't then flicker. I haven't yet changed the couplings to magnetic because with non bogie coaches magnetic can cause derailment. Since the video I have glossed the purple umber livery leaving the brown unglossed and it looks stunning and more like some of the stock photos I've seen. Glad you liked the video

      @MrDavil43 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vcs00railway I agree about the magnetic couplings, even on the gentler curves on the club layout the Genesis coaches would buffer lock and derail, however, the Hornby 6 wheelers not so bad. It's the stark white roofs that I hate. My SECR set from batch 1 have been toned down and weathered, but not uniformly across the rake, and they look so much better. As a rule I try to eliminate pure white and most dense black from my layout generally. Ok, so they aren't strictly accurate for any particular Company, but for most of us compromises get made as life is so short. 00 gauge is wrong and some folk think that some train consists are erroneous, but it doesn't bother me.
