Thoughts on Two Years of Early Retirement
It's been two years since I published this video:
th-cam.com/video/DXKm2uv3vjc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_USIKbxdBQCC6dKT
In that two years, we've gone on a 15-month long epic boat adventure and have moved back into our home and are settling into this new phase of life.
Come along for a Jeep ride and hear about what I've been up to lately!
I credit this epic mic for the noise cancelling on this video: amzn.to/3xxm4fa

    Hey Seth. A quick question…. I liked your rechargeable power washer idea as I too have a cruisers yacht without an anchor wash down. I purchased the black and decker as I have numerous batteries for it but it will not hold the prime to bring the water up to the bow. Did the Ryobi function ok. Sorry to bother you Blair. TIA

    Did the crab pot shuffle myself many years ago. I was the Underway Officer of the Deck while transiting Long Island Sound, west to east, on a 210 ft Coast Guard cutter at 12 knots. There were so many, I resorted to just telling the helmsman, "take that one on the right" "take this one on the left" and so on while I made sure we stayed in the main shipping channel. Lots of fun! Finally retired from the Coast Guard in 1984 with 22 years service which included over 5 years sea duty. I really like watching videos like these. Almost like being back in the pilot house. Thanks for sharing.

    At about 13:40 it was reported where you stayed the first night. Never in my life have I heard of that island !! Later on in the clip I realized what you where ‘attempting to say. Say it. ‘bow-so-lay’ island. Not perfect phonetics but way better than what was said on the vid. Then at about 15:20 you mentioned Saint Amant’s. Say it ‘san-amaw’s’ Great to hear that you enjoyed my ‘stompin-ground’ so much. So many of the heritage properties you passed on that trip are/were families from the northern States. For example, when at the Moon Falls, you were close to, or passed by Iron City Fishing Club. Originally all Pittsburg families. A few miles north of there… The Pennsylvania Club. From….guess where. And on and on. Good video and come again.

    My scissor traps work wonderfully. It can be tricky to set them properly sometimes and you need to clean the dirt off of the trap to help prevent it from triggering too easily but every tool requires some level of maintenance. I've heard good things about the trap your using but the scissor style trap is less noticeable by the kids that live on either side of me

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have both deployed right now as it’s prime time for moles in my yard. I agree with your comments about the scissor trap.

  • @katielyb
    @katielyb หลายเดือนก่อน

    I consistently have moles in my yard. I got two last year and one so far this year. I don't know why but they keep moving into my yard. I know that moles will sometimes use the same runs as another mole but they're fairly territorial unless it's mating season. There's a bit of wildlife in my area but how many do i have to catch before they quit moving in? My trap kills them in case you were wondering. But my preferred method of dealing with creatures because i love animals but, i just can't take it anymore

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily หลายเดือนก่อน

      We water when our neighbors don’t. That encourages worms and grubs (mole food) so they live our yard. They like the previous tunnels and the sprinkler system trenches because it’s softer dirt to dig through. At one point I did a perimeter of grub killer and that kept them out (no food) and some castor granules (they don’t like to dig in). It’s a constant battle.

    Terrific video. I have this issue. Making me crazy. I replaced all the o-rings, duckbills. Even reached in to clear what I thought was a blockage -- nope. Wasn't very nice, but it was soft and flushable. What adds to my annoyance is there is no clear troubleshooting guide. (There isn't one for most things, but there could and should be.) I find a lot of techs in various fields identify and fix most issues by 1. long experience (it's usually one of these few things) 2. Replacing parts (that was my method. I just paid almost $800 to find out I shouldn't have bothered trying to fix my 20 year old radar not working properly by buying a used one that 'allegedly' had been tested.) Another troubleshooting step that I should have done first. Remove the hose going into the tank from the head and check to see if holds the vacuum. Basically cover it over and test the system. My pump first failed to flush, and then worked, but the motor was cycling ever couple of minutes. (Dometic says the system should hold a vacuum without cycling for 8 hours.) In your case the vacuum in the tank would've held, indicating the trouble was somewhere between the bowl (that holds water --- as mine has through all of my efforts.) Had I done that first I wouldn't have replaced several O-rings, four duckbills and the pump bellows. Based on your video, I will next remove the in hose, check to see how long the tank holds its vacuum. If that's good, then it will definitely be those two O-rings. BTW over the years I've learned that O-rings should always be lubed before putting anything back together, but that lube can be almost anything - Vaseline, Lithium grease. Unlubed there's a chance the tight friction will move it out of position. Another trick I learned, that probably won't apply to O-rings is if you only need something to be lubricated temporarily, bicycle hand grips is an example and where I learned this. Use ammonia (Windex), as a Base when wet it's slippery, but when it dries out it's no longer sticky. So things slide on, but then they won't slide off. It's also good to spray on wiring and tires under a vehicle where the local critters are known to gnaw on these things. As soon as they get any moisture it tastes like soap and burns.

    • @onFIREfamily

    Nice video Guys. So how ironic is this…….I own an 87 4450 (same boat) and literally for the first time (after fixing the tub drains) was taking the maiden voyage bubble bath with Yourube while sipping an IPA. HAHA. My girlfriend is at work and I just sent her the bubble bath (rated PG) pictures. Good luck on your search. I’ve known for years this was the boat for us. It’s my forth ocean boat and so very happy with it. The master stateroom bed is a little bit of a pain to make but not worth not getting the 4560-4588_4788. There is NOTHING like walking straight into the boat off a dock and NO stairs! Our old dog Maddox loves that. Also, and I’m sure you know, the draft is shallow so great choice for The Great Loop. Also…..the pilot house makes an amazing getaway room. Cheers and good luck. Tim and Jenn on Seahorse. Ventura CA.

    Georgian Bay has always been in my blood....spent many summers as a kid at a fantastic boys camp (Camp Beausoleil a YMCA camp on the north tip of Beausoleil Island). Sadly it was demolished in 1981😢. There's just something magical about that ancient Shield landscape thats like nowhere else. As Canadians, we're also influenced by that "Group of Seven" northern Ontario influence. Hoping one day to do the Great Loop myself, but may start with a "mini" loop from here in Toronto around the Trent/great lakes loop. Hope you guys have great memories to cherish and thanks for the great videos...they are enjoyable and informative at the same time. Kevin

      Thanks Kevin! We wish we were headed back this summer! Seems it takes a lifetime to explore this area!

    Thanks. What I did different was use a Milwaukee Nail-Guard Fang Tip wood/Bi-Metal SAWZALL Blade. The blade is short but cuts a lot faster and easier with bigger chips and less dust but a lot more noise (wear your ear plugs). I used an inexpensive Walmart battery saws-all. It worked great. I had my wife use her flower watering can to drip water on the cutting blade(not the saw) to reduce the dust. (Keep some oil on the saw shaft). We cut it up in pieces small enough to fit in big garbage bags that fit inside the garbage can to be hauled away free over a period of several weeks.

    Awesome video why you named your boat "WITNESS" . As a good friend has always said, Keep The Faith.

    Hi there I just wanted to comment. What a good example that the Mr is showing being the leader in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. You are blessed. 🙏 Many of us don't have that leadership in the Lord.

    When you went by Grafton, did you go to the end where the big break wall was and happen to see a catamaran?

    How difficult was it for you to rig up the hammock?

      Not too hard although our friends just returned and said that their overwater bungalow was different and they couldn’t find a spot to do it. Results may vary I guess!

    I'm not sure if U.S. requires people to learn international boating etiquette when getting certified or not, however I have noticed a disturbing number of U.S. yachts sailing in Canadian waters with their country flags flying wrong. As a Canadian Navy Veteran I find this so disrespectful. The flag of the country your sailing in flies above your country of registry flag, not at the same height, if you cannot fly two flags at separate heights only fly the flag of the country your sailing in.

    I've never cut up a hot tub, but I have demolished 3 fiberglass boats and I've found the 24 tpi metal cutting blades work a lot faster than the coarse tooth blades used in this video.
