    Thank you for sharing especially all the cool museums. One of my favorite things to do while boating is rafting up with friends.

      When we raft, it just seems to come together. It’s never been planned but has always been enjoyed.

    Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. I have never been there but from watching farming and boating videos the Chesapeake is a wonderful cruising area.

      It really is beautiful and with so much to see and do in a small-ish area.

    Love your videos! I need your opinion. Love your boat and was wondering about what is the difference between your boat and a Bayliner 4788 and a Meridian 490?

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Bayliner and Meridian are basically the same layout as eachother. They differ in the aft stateroom. The Cruisers 4450 has an after master stateroom, the v-berth, and “the cave” that our son sleeps in. The 4788/490 has the v-berth forward, an adjoining office/stateroom, and another midship stateroom. Our boat requires stairs up and over our aft stateroom to get into the salon but your other two options would take you straight into the salon from the swim step/cockpit.

    You guys really should make time to stop and visit Block Island Rhode Island. I'm anchored here now and I know you guys would love it! Well worth the sidetrip.👍👍

      Thanks for the suggestion! We won’t make it on this trip but will add it to our list of future adventures!

    You weren't exaggerating when you said the Chesapeake Bay is no joke. It's important to keep your eye on the weather. When I was still tugboating, I was taking a barge full of 6 foot diameter pipes up the Potomac for a new bridge being built. It was night when I entered the Potomac, and there were six to eight foot swells right in the mouth of the river!! The wind was blowing hard from the Southeast, and the Potomac was at maximum Ebb Tide at that time, which caused the swells to build.
    Be Safe!!

      I think of you every time we see a tow! I tried to get a picture of one for you right in this area but I wasn’t close enough to do it justice.

    As always, very informative, interesting video. Boy, you must have all been exhausted after trudging through so many museums in Washington! They seem endless after a few hours. You only did a skim coat tour of the Chesapeake but certainly caught the highlight reel ports.

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we were physically exhausted and our brains were full!

    Wow, you guys packed two or three years Bay boating into approx. 2 weeks. I have to say I'm glad you did not take my advice about skipping the Potomac river. Meeting the boating/senator must have been an honor. The fact that he took such good care of you makes all boaters proud. Like you he's a liveaboard so you I'm certain he felt obliged to look after you. You also managed to pack in many of the highlights (not all) of the Chesapeake Bay. Congratulations on doing the bay so well. I'm guessing you are somewhere near the Statue of Liberty or on the Hudson.

      Thanks Mike! We felt a little rushed through the Chesapeake but felt like some of the stops were some of our favorites of the loop!

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry. Not on this trip. Good weather conspired to keep us moving vs. take the side trip. Other boats that made it there really enjoyed it! Maybe next trip!

    What a great video. Those places need to be viewed by everyone and maybe this US would get more respect from its citizens. Glad the weather was working with you instead of against you. Always good to see what a wooden boat fanatic can seek out. Just think of doing the look in an old cruiser.

      Thanks! Your heart just melts at some of this historic American iconic sites. I agree they should be on everyone’s list of must sees. Someone did the loop in a 60’s Chris Craft Connie which is how I first heard of the route!

      @@onFIREfamily I chaperoned my son's 8th grade class on their "Back East Trip" back in 2020. That was at the outbreak of Covid. People in hazmat suits were right behind us fumigating.
      I saw the Potomac as we toured Mt. Vernon. I told myself, I'm coming back here with my family. When I learned about The Loop, I figured it was Gods way of lining up my ducks.
      You're an inspiration. Safe travels

    It's a shame things are so polarized that you didn't mention the Senator's name so as not to get political comments one way or the other. I, myself, have very strong political views but could appreciate any Senator that did a nice thing for constituents/public.

    • @onFIREfamily
      @onFIREfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. A sad state of affairs for sure. It’s less that we didn’t want to mention them for political reasons and more for their privacy and security.
