A passion (or obsession?) for 1959 Chevy's
PLUS
Automotive and whatnot, DIY car repairs, Hopefully funny stuff, Vintage barn and field find cars. unique auto tools and methods. Also, a few that are for sale I'll tell ya if they are
I've been a professional mechanic for over 30 years and a ASE certified for most of those years. I never know what project I'll be working on next.
MY in the works projects are a 64 Corvair with a rear mounted 4.3 V6 Chevy running through the factory PowerGlide. I am trying to get my 59 BelAir ready an legal to race at the 2023 No Name Nationals. If I reach the subscription number requirement I'll run it down the track!
A few of the vehicles you might see here are
a 1959 Chevy Belair 2 door with a 454 big block that's my first car
a 1964 Corvair 4 door that were installing a 4.3 Chevy V6 in the rear. This is the father in laws ride
a 1959 Chevy Belair 4 door that was my Dads, this was the family truckster when I was born
a 1960-4 Chevy C40 truck

1959 Chevy BelAir 327 swapped . first drive in 40+ years!
Work continues on the 1959 Chevy BelAir with the 327 swap. It now has a dual master cylinder and new front brakes. The rears will be done latter. The 327 runs well, though we've only run it a bit without the cooling system.
There's still a long ways to go but it does move and stop on its own!!
No Name Nationals 2024 will be September 19-21 2024 at Skelton raceway in Sikeston Missouri. This is an event for TH-cam content creators with at least 500 subscribers to their channel at the time of the event. This will be our 3rd year attending and the second as a participant. This year we may be driving two cars down. It's about 700 miles one way if we avoid the metropolises. This years project is another 1959 Chevy BelAir 2 door. This one was last licensed in 1969. It's been a parts car for several people, and that's before i bought it on the EvelBay years ago. This will be a budget build and we're trying to keep the original "survivor" look. The drive line will be similar to what could have been ordered from the dealer. The body will be all original paint for now. Lets see if we can get this car together and drive the 700 mile to NNN 24 in Sikeston! Hit that like button if you feel the videos deserve it. All comments are welcome If you'd like to follow along with the build, please subscribe

Gotta get me one of those.
I keep hearing that everyone has a problem tuning multi carb setups. They are no more difficult than a single carb setup. Easier than moms apple pie
The biggest problem with tuning multi car engines is trying to tune worn out multi carbs
Seems like the 6.8 power units were notorious for that!
Always have been, always will be!
Turbo locked up?
You hit the nail on the head, Scale on the hot side
Say hello to my little friend!
There's no wrong way to display!
Right on!
So...all original? And the original owner
@@jerryrigsit5400 not either. The car's older than the owner. The car has been put back on the road a few times so it's not original anymore
@@Raycr oh, looks great though
@@jerryrigsit5400 thank you. For what all the car has been though, it looks real good
Car show today? I don't recognize the spot.. lol. but a lot has changed since I lived there.
@@SweatyFatGuy it was a bit of a drive

Nice!
Smoking alittle more than normal. Bring back memories. 👍👍
@@edsmachine93 just a little bit!
Sounds quiet, just like all the other wells.
@@SweatyFatGuy you know it!
Is that a Detroit Diesel?
@@DougsterWolverineGarage no sir, that's a John Deere. A ill one at that.
@Raycr oh, can't think of the model but it has a gas pony engine right?
@@DougsterWolverineGarage not this one. It's a 4045 4 cylinder electric start
@@Raycr ah, much newer that I imagined
Crops need water too!
🍪
I can tell by the frame that is the Wagooneer, more handy work by the painter/body guy?
@@jamesthompson8008 yup. Dressed it up
Do it nice...or do it twice!
I was thinking this was going to have something to do with the storm that just rolled through
That storm pretty much missed us. You guys got the worst of it I think
🍪
Well, it kinda looks as tho you had that in mind; a wee different from when you didn't! You can always make it work if you want.
If he hacked those flanges off with a Sawzall there's a good chance that new radiator is gonna leak in turn voiding the warranty...Should cut and refit the shroud to the radiator rather than the radiator to the shroud...
I'm hoping that doesn't happen!
@@Raycr best of luck to ya, the furnace brazing in aluminum radiators doesn't like the kind of vibration a Sawzall can put to em...I learned that the hard way...
@@vaughn6820 Hope I'm lucky then!
@vaughn6820 In this case, I think it's better to modify the radiator brackets, as radiators are easier to come by than an OG fan shroud.
aww, come on. Use that electric fan instead of that wind tunnel ;)
NO sir, I like the reliability of the old engine driven fan!
🍪
SHIT PREP!!!
The filler wasn't mixed properly!!
Moisture in the metal
Rust formation under the paint
@@timothyedwards8329 yes, but why did it start within 6 months of the body work?
@@Raycr because there was either a bit of rust there already and it rusted more, or there were small imperfections for moisture to get through in the paint and start it rusting, or your paint got some moisture in it which started the rust.
if you don’t keep moisture away it will rust coming from a Canadian
Thats a Awesome truck !!!!!!
Liquid cooled exhaust?
For a little while!
Don’t go back that’s a Maco job
Poor prep brother
It's all about keeping it clean, lots of wax and grease remover before painting and also using a tack cloth. Also if the painter didn't knock the glaze off of the sealer than the paint won't stick. It could also be gassing off
Shit repair job is what happened there. If its on a ford f"king ranger it'll be fine.😂
Bad prep and contaminated surface, whoever painted this shld not b painting cars thy shld stick to fences lol
Something happened to my 1970 caddy. It’s guy who painted didn’t care and went over metal that needed work first.
You’re a warrior, Ray!
Lets see if i can get 2 59s to NNN24! I might have to leave even earlier if I have to drive both!
@@RaycrAnd get pulled over with ThumpEr!
@@johnwilburn I'm trying to cut back on that activity!
Either moisture or rust under the paint
Water in the compressor not good water trap in the compresor
🍪
Id say that was bad prep
Moisture under the paint. Could be oil or water but likely from your body plaster
poor prep
Oxidation, you got rust underneath that paint.
It could be that they made holes in the finder to pull a dent and didn’t weld the holes shut then used body filler to finish the dent and moisture got through the holes they left and was absorbed by the body filler which then made it swell up and look like that
Rust under paint. I'm not even a body guy.
The bondo or primer wasn’t cured right not hot enough
Well nowadays I don't put lead in the paint they used to make the paint last longer but yeah I never seen anything like that I think they were just did a half ass job
