How many hrs does this take and do you come out alright pay wise in the end to do one of these? I owned an independent shop for 45 years and these jobs always took far more than flat rate time. We would just bid and charge for what the job was really going to take.

This is how overly restrictive government regulations destroy things for the consumer. Unrealistic and deceptive fuel economy and emissions standards have forced not just Toyota, but every other manufacturer to do away with reliable, normally aspirated engines. The result is smaller displacement engines, with turbo chargers, low tension piston rings and GDI, that all lead to premature engine wear.

man how much does this cost for someone who isnt fortunate to be covered under warranty?

Toyota screwed hybrid owners. Same shitty faulty engine and no recall. I will never buy another.

Hey brother, so I have done 5 of these in about 2 week span, I found you don’t need to remove trans lines and it is way easier to leave harness on engine.Hope this helps and keep up the good work!

Have you been using the existing alternator/AC/fan drive v-belt or are customers opting to new one?

like all other manufacturers now, todays new drivetrains will be very scary, cost wise to own off warranty. Toyota is not immune to this anymore. This to me is basically a sports car engine toughened up for truck use.

I see you’re still doing this without leaving the entire harness on the motor… Toyota designs these them to help us to save time by disconnecting them from the ecus to avoid all the 5-10-15 minutes here and there which adds up quickly. You also removed the a/c compressor. No need to even evacuate the Freon… please don’t think I’m throwing shade on your behalf. I’m also a Toyota tech 20+ years. Just trying to help…. And just a heads up…. I saw you said you get 13 hours for this recall.? We get 18… just saying…. Time to stand up and give yourself what your time is worth..

2016-2023 tacomas are not worth it. Always something wrong with the engine or components breaking and causing damage to engine later on

I bought a 2024 Tundra, specifically because the Tundra Recall Notice for crankshaft bearings specified only the 2022 and 2023. The Toyota Dealer explicitly stated to me that the crankshaft bearing problem was fixed for 2024. He was under-informed or lying. As a long-time Toyota owner, I believed that Toyota would not still be selling an engine two years after a significant problem was identified.
