Hello! Thank you for the information; it is very helpful. In the AFROTC contract, upon completion, is it possible to join the Reserves or National Guard? Otherwise, is it mandatory to serve active duty?
Hey I know I’m just throwing a random comment on an old video, but can you guys share some info regarding good careers for political science majors?
Went to OTS I n 2016 as a prior enlisted TSgt (ANG). Enjoy the process and learn as much as you can.
How would you join and commute if your college doesn’t have a detachment? The college I am going has a crosstown afrotc program that is a hour and a half away. Would I have to go there each day?
Thank you for all the time and effort you put in each video! This is one of the main resources I use to research for my application and decision making process. I just found this channel a couple months ago and it is sad to see this video. Thank you again!
How can I join if I'm a graduate from Kenya?
In the reserves, just do your PME and you'll be promoted.....at least to O-5
I have a BS in cybersecurity (GPA 3.9) and a comptia CYSA+ with a couple of years experience in IT. Do these matters for the space force to make me stand out at all? I spoke to a recruiter and they said it might take up to a few years to get me in. Is that true? The communication with the recruiter has been really tough.
the degree and GPA *might* help you stand out, but i doubt it. everyone in the Space Force, especially in the cyber career fields, is brilliant. it’s everything else that will likely have to make the difference. the recruiter didn’t lie to you. it will take minimum 18-24 months to get you selected and commissioned. recruiters are incredibly busy people. stay professional, but don’t give up on them if this is truly what you want.
@@airforceofficerpodcast thanks for responding. But what would help you stand out then? What are ways to prove that you’re a worthy and capable candidate?
They should have stayed at Lackland
Hey. I hope y'all see this, but I was planning on joining the air force and becoming an officer.. it has always been a dream of mine to join the military and to serve. But I have one question: do all air force officers have blood on their hands? Do all of them make decisions to have someone killed?
the answer to your question is far more complicated than a simple yes or no. and the best way to provide the answer is for you to arrive at it yourself. start here: Air Force Officer Professional Development th-cam.com/play/PLJd76HbS3mBc7lcLalMtunlJk24xGZlzI.html
This is a hell of a find. I got picked up for ABM OTS next year and im excited to learn. It is hard to find much information on the job. Hope i dont suck at controlling 😅
congrats on your selection. glad that you find the information useful!
Even though there have been many changes to OTS since I was commissioned in 1989. This brought back many memories. As you so precisely said you will fail alone. Our flight (2-11) was the only flight to graduate all of our members we weren’t the smartest bunch but we knew how to work together.
Do you have to be good at math?
Going through my prequalification paperwork now.. public affairs officer is my first choice and I know I will be amazing at it. Can anyone give me some tips for the afqt or what I can do to maximize these chances..
Do a root cause analysis when asking the why's it will better help you understand better
What's the rate for engineers?
rate of what?
Does air force rotc require basic training at any point
no. in the place of BMT, AFROTC cadets attend Field Training in between their sophomore and junior years.
Heavy fovus on AWACS and Tinker AFB. As a 13B I served on multiple air platforms, not just on AWACS, on USN ships / carriers, ground TACS units, FOBs, headquarters, and was an instructor at Tyndal AFB. I served with all branches of the US military, with NATO, Coalition, and ME militaries.
😂 Be sure to get and keep your subscription current to U.S. News and World Report. Intel does have the best military magazine collection on base!
Do you have any point of contacts for one to talk to about this career field and the right path to take from enlisted to officer?
Have you guys done a video on Logistics Readiness Officer?
126 - 21R Logistics Readiness Officer with Maj Joseph Strabley th-cam.com/video/2vOpuKHH3mk/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, do you have any POC’s I could ask some questions on the best path from Enlisted to Commissioning? I am prior service with 6 years in the Army, thinking of switching to Active Duty Air Force and would like to take the Officer route someday
there all sorts of resources on that topic, including but not limited to this podcast. google and TH-cam are your friends. also Reddit.
Please can I become a us airfoce pilot as forigner
have to be a US citizen.
Hey guys! I am interested in the Intelligence Officer Career Field and just watched the video giving a basic rundown of the job and was hoping to get a little more detail regarding the job. If you are reading this, I've messaged you on facebook and instagram.
Do you recommend SMP program for someone that needs help paying for college while doing ROTC? Would it be difficult to go active duty once ROTC is complete
WOW!! I’m so glad that I found this episode. I’ll be using this episode a a tool during my OTS application.
Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate the insight you provide with this channel and I wish you could have continued as it brings more value than people imagine. In 1:16:25, you mention how he didn't answer the question you mentioned. I think he answered this question at 44:08.
Dude whats with the loud background music? I thought it was a intro thing then skippwd to the end and still going hard 😂 have to skip this one.
Interested in where this will take the US. GO SPACE FORCE!
Who else was more scared òf the world we live in by the time they finished the part 2 of this podcast episode? The book recommendations for project management, cyber defense, and the one for all blacks was really good. Will scout them. What i think i liked most was the revised commissioning process that was suggested. - Everyone goes to BMT as a leveler - Everyone enlists for at least 2yrs before smelling a commissionning slot - Everyone goes to a OTS for 6months to check if they have leadership qualities while also going through their trade school to learn what it looks like to do the job in which they'd command men later on. - Everyone gets at least 6yrs combined(2lt+1lt) to spend more time sharpening their hands on the actual job they learnt the trade of at OTS, and by the time they make Captain, theyre both technically skilled and ready to become good leaders of their particular trade. My question is what woukd it take to effect this, US congress or do they need other nations to decide amd agree on this change of time on rank before the implemented can begin? I think it will be great if this becomes the norm in the near future. I also think for SOF, they shoukd be promoted to warrant officers and retired as that since they're technical experts in their trade.
i just got an annoucement for air national guard recruitment for this position, now I'm really interested after watching this video. thanks
My daughter just got an officer slot in Space Force
congrats to her! that’s not easily done.
If you already have Degree in public affairs. Does one still have to take office test for Air Force or do they look at your qualifications with public degree you have before they select you for public affairs office school?
if you’re referring to the AFOQT, yes you still have to take and pass it.
Where is the UPT podcast from the student perspective? I can’t find it

Thanks for taking the time to look further into the implementation of ALQs. As a SNCO in the AF, I try to find the Why behind what new changes are happening in our service, and this will help me explain it better to our troops. New Airmen, especially those that have no prior work experience (especially outside of industry standards) probably looked at these and thought, "Oh great, someone needed a bullet so heres the best next thing that had little thought put into it.." But this shines a light on the deliberate development and effort put into articulating the specific characteristics that not only make an incredible Airmen, but an overall effective employee too. Great work!
not everything we do has to be for a bullet, even the big stuff. but it’s hard to see beyond those things when so much of our time and attention is spent trying to “take care of our people” with awards packages and evaluations.
If you're former active 9yrs and presently AF reserve 4yrs is OTS shorter or same length? Thanks in advance
same length.
Enlisted here, are there any online rotc programs?
nope. you can be an online student at your university, but you must be in-person for all practical military training and academics.
Saw your video first, the idea and starting to meet the needs to apply to the airforce is new and wanted to know when do i get ti bring my pets to my housing? #Months? #years? I have to small mixed dogs, fully vetted
And thank you for the information!!!
if you’re an officer, you won’t live in the dorms so you can have whatever pets you want.
Question? Where were the INTEL REPORTS Regarding RUSSIA UKRAINE?
Any info on becoming on officer but through the Air Guard?
Guard is tricky. they like to hire from within. not impossible to be recruited off the street, though. best thing to do is learn as much as possible about the unit, their mission, the state, and interview process. work with someone inside the unit, if at all possible. if not, the recruiter may be willing to help.
Hey guys, the link posted for that interview is no longer valid. If you can post a new one it would be appreciated!

Hey I’m currently a junior in college and am considering applying for OTS out of school and to hopefully join the Airforce as a finance officer. I currently have student loans for my degree and was wondering if and what the Airforce does for those already graduated college joining OTS with student debt.
nothing. the Air Force doesn’t have a loan forgiveness program.
They do but I believe the debt have to be a federal direct loan and may repay up to $65,000. Check with the finance office or recruiter for additional details.
I LOVE this podcast and video thank you
I loved this video and inscribed instantly. Thank YOU
Can you commission into this field as a USAF reserve officer? If not what fields are available for reserve officers
yes.
Next time get a 64P… this was hard to watch
Between two Ferns USAF edition.
Very insightful, there need to be some real changes too keep up and stay on top.
Aaaah commission ed. such a classy place. Submitting my afsc “wish list” this year. Reviewing ALL resources I can find on career field exploration.
If anyone is watching this around my comment post date, I can provide some updates/additional information. Some updates: 1. upon completion of field training you are guaranteed a scholarship. This may not last forever but is currently active. 2. Field training will be longer and more challenging. I think around 3 weeks now? With a lot less CTA’s (cadet drill sergeants in a sense). Information isn’t finalized yet though, these changes are super new. Additional info: 1. Attrition rates are very high. I’m in a small detachment. Average 1st year we have 25 ish cadets. Our det commissions about 6 per year. So on average over 70% attrition… Most people drop end of 1st semester, from DODMERB, after week 1, and failure to earn an EA (more on that). 2. DODMERB will wreck you. If you want to join the ROTC, stop going to the doctor, stop taking medications, stop going to therapy. Lots of people will get DQ’d for anxiety/adhd meds. Great friend of mine was dq’d for shin splints. If you’re taking those medications, look up the specific information DODMERB has on them before committing a year of your life to something. 3. Earning your ticket to Field Training (an EA) is very very very competitive!! EA’s are given to high quality cadets who score well. Basically, a cadet has measurable showing their success and potential. These are your college GPA, Physical Fitness Assessment score, Commanders rank, and AFOQT score. Ranked from highest importance to lowest. A “competitive” score is a 3.5 cumulative gpa, 90+ PFA score, top 10-20% of your class, 150+ for the combined scores on the AA/V/Q sections of AFOQT (for non-rated positions. rated, or “pilot” related positions, are different and more competitive) Those are the benchmarks to be competitive. That should be your minimum goal and give you some comfort to earn an EA. However, last year a cadet posted a 3.6 GPA, 93 PFA, average AFOQT, but a bottom 50% commanders rank and was an alternate for field training. So every category, even the lower weighted categories are important! 4. GPA is independent of your degree. All the AFROTC does is plug your GPA into a calculation. Therefore difficulty of that degree is worthless. A 2.5 in theoretical physics from Harvard is equal to a 2.5 lib arts from a public school. If you just want to earn a commission and post service work isn’t a priority, take an easy degree. Lots of cadets change majors after a rough first semester. 5. Take easy classes your first 3 semesters! You want as high of a GPA as possible when you’re put up for an EA (you are put up for an EA at the end of semester 3). GPA is still important for determining your job selection but as long as you stay above the minimums, you are guaranteed a commission. My point is this, becoming an officer (at least in the Air Force) is very difficult. Even when you have the capabilities, DODMERB can come through and destroy you. It’s highly competitive, especially for rated positions, and will put you through a lot of stress. It is absolutely worth it if you are 100% sure this is what you want to do in life, but I hate seeing people waste their time chasing impossible dreams. Check with DODMERB standards first! You only have 1 year and a couple of months to hit those benchmark scores I stated. Again, super worth it, I recommend it, but be realistic with yourself. Just because the AFROTC minimum GPA is what a 2.0? Doesn’t mean a 2.1 is ok. You will not earn an EA under a 3.0, I promise you that. Anyways post comments if you have any questions or look at r/AFROTC on Reddit. Plenty of good updates info there.
Wow…now I’ve seen it all, finance officers competing with SF TH-cam posts.
