How Vince Carter saved the Dino Jersey. | Sideline Archive.
When you picture Toronto Raptors era Vince Carter - what do you see? Air Canada soaring through the air towards the rim with a red cartoon dinosaur strapped to his chest. But the Toronto Raptors dinosaur wasn't always iconic.
There was a time when it nearly went extinct, buried in a freezing cold tomb at the Toronto Skydome. But how did Vince Carter change the legacy of our Canadian cartoon dinosaur - and how did we even get basketball up there anyway?

About:
In this video we deep dive into the history of the Toronto Raptors NBA franchise and their genesis at the 1995 NBA Canadian Expansion Draft. The Raptors defined the NBA of the 90s with Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Damon Stoudamire. All wearing the iconic jersey with the cartoon dinosaur and purple trim. From the birth of Shaquille O'Neal the NBA superstar - through the design of the dino jersey (influenced by Jurassic Park in 1993) - to the cementing of it's legacy in Vince Carter's rookie year. It's THE iconic jersey of the 1990s - despite the Raptors play for much of the decade ... so ... why?

From Charleston South Carolina born & raised and the speaker is right, NASCAR was pretty much THE pro sport of the Carolina's until the Hornets came. And YES, the Hornets gear was primo, my HS school years was 89 to 93 & Hornets gear, particularly the Starter that was zip up with hood was the most sought after jacket along with the Varsity jacket that had Charlotte across the front...
That starter satin varsity goes CRAZY
4:40 had no idea the roles were swapped!
Modano can snipe but he CANNOT act
amazing video as usual !
Glad you liked it!
Will you cover our own sports at some point or just North American sports?
Who KILLED cricket?! Haha maybe!
The absurdity of the distance between the arenas they played in was hilarious.
Wow I did not know the Canadian teams were given such a bad deal. Shame on rest of the NBA
Truly nuts. The Raptors made it out alive but the Grizzlies were set up to fail
Maybe it is for the best. Who has so much extra money to buy so much merch nowadays
Cool video
🙏🙏🙏
Your best video yet. Keep it up!
Thanks man! 🙏
More fire. Love the Windows 95 frame giving it extra retro feel. Raptor colors on the screen saver. Your shit is crafty and top tier.
I appreciate you digging the details. It was a lot of work to get it just right
can't be a vato or a OG if you don't like the Raiders
I am proud to be a raptors fan even though I am from California
I’ve shared your channel on a sports uniform Facebook group. Hopefully it gets your subscribers up.
That's awesome, I appreciate it!
who is "bill paxson" ?
Bro great production and storytelling. You’re doing everything right on this channel! Loved this video.
Thanks, appreciate that! 🙏
5:45 it was game 6 not 7.
Please DON'T Stop what you're doing. Huge fan of your work. Your work doesn't go unnoticed.
Appreciate you dude - thanks!
Sideline! Big fan of your work! You give off Sercet Base energy and I look forward to your new videos, I remember watching the first one a few months back and was hoping it wasn’t just a one off, you got a great channel!
Thanks, man! Glad you're enjoying the ride - it's only going to get more ridiculous from here on out.
Such a well-made video. Very informative. Great Job Hugh!
Thanks man! Appreciate the feedback 🙏
always hated the raptors name, should have been the huskies

@sideline.archive yeah pinball was that jam never did get into minesweeper yets pops sure dug it
I’m not super into sports - I have a few teams here and there - but I love sports aesthetics. I’m glad I found this channel.
That’s awesome! Welcome aboard!
Want the Raptor back! All the 90's NBA jerseys was just so great. I miss them...
Where’s my Time Machine. Take me back.

Very well done. One question. 2:31 Bill Paxson?
@@inallairness pain 😂
@@sideline.archive😬 🤣 great video production, mate.
Thanks brother - wish the Bulls weren’t so aesthetically dull so we could do a Chicago ep. They’re sort of always the benchmark for a jersey classic. Never changing. Like the Indianapolis Colts haha
fav channel rn
🙏🙏🙏
This channel deserves way more subscribers, I look forward to checking back in in a year or two after this channel seriously blows up.
@@ShoelessJP appreciate it brother 🙏
Great video. The only mistake that I saw was that the Joe Carter World Series home run was in game 6, not game 7.
I’m a terrible baseball fan. Thanks for pointing that out.
Congrats on the sponsor! Glad you’ll have a way to get paid for your amazing work!
That means a lot, I'm glad you appreciate the vids. Homage are great and Ryan is a good friend of mine - so feels right to link up on this one!
Your telling of the story of the Toronto Raptors was brilliant! I love the tongue-in-cheek approach with the days of dial up and Windows 95/98 callbacks. The Raptor may have found it's place, but my wife (who is a die hard Raptors fan) and myself (who enjoys listening to her yell at the TV during games) want the Raptor back!
I'm with you, those old school jerseys are a thing of beauty! It’s a shame they won the chip in those awful claw jerseys. Ah well.
Love the 90s computer vibe
I’m glad because it took 1000 years to edit it all haha.
If I had 1 logo/uniforms to define the sports 90s era I’d argue this would be a top competitor
100%
great video, the purple dino jerseys are right there with the 80s nuggets jerseys as some of my favorite in league history. i think an interesting concept to explore would be the uniforms of the nfl europe teams, and all the ugly patches they were plastered with lol. excited to see what the future of this channel holds, keep up the great work :D
NFL Europe uniforms - excellent point! I’ll have to see what I can dig up for those! I loved the Barcelona Dragons jersey. So gross it’s brilliant. And the Monachs blue and gold eurgh.
@ the purple and orange frankfurt galaxy unis though... so clean. reminds of those clemson alternates.
The gray Dino variant would’ve been epic. That graphic looked sweet.
Did I just design a new city edition by mistake? I does look pretty cool ngl
Keep up the solid work man. I can’t wait for the blow up
@@anthonyhardy96 appreciate you rocking with these vids brother
