Snaring Beavers Under the Ice. Shortline trapping 2025
Set out a few beaver snares for a 3 day check.
I'm needing some beaver meat for bait for an upcoming interstate trapping trip.
Had young Trever join me on a couple of the checks (appreciate the help chopping ice).
Thanks for watching!
Stay tuned for upcoming adventures.

Snaring Beaver [the hard way]
มุมมอง 585วันที่ผ่านมา
Snaring beavers under the ice has its unique challenges. It is not for the feint of heart. Cold weather, long walks, chopping ice, and carrying heavy loads are only part of the equation. I had a new trapper follow along and he snared two beavers on the short trapline. I set a snare pole when it was only about 30 degrees and caught a beaver before the pole was frozen in place. As a result, the b...

Be careful using fox or coyote urine at your set during the deer rut, as the deer will take a keen interest in the smell. Thanks for watching!
Coyote Trapping: Re-making the set at the Catch Circle

See my preferred technique for making the re-make on a coyote catch-circle. Setting on the edge of the circle will provide better results for wily yotes, as opposed to just reusing the existing trap bed in the center of the circle. Bonus footage of raccoon and beaver catches. Thanks for watching!

Follow along as my son and I embark on a 3-day Elk Hunt to Region 4 in central Montana. I was only able to get an "Antlerless Tag" (cow elk), but my son had a Youth General Combo license, good for any elk and also any deer.. Watch as he shoots his second bull (He got his first one in Idaho at age 12). Thanks for watching and thanks even more for subscribing.

What part in MT
Ty you for those early beaver season trapping clips.
Back to North Carolina?
@steveb486 going west of the Mississippi for a week or two.
Im a first time trapper do you think if I make these and set a couple near a feed pile and active lodge is there a pretty high chance of a beaver or does it take a while to get good at it?
@@osar2870 these will work. If you build them and set them under the ice near an active beaver lodge, you will catch a beaver. This is what I primarily use for beaver under the ice
@ awesome, thanks for the response.
@@tier1trapper747I set some today how long do you suggest I wait before checking them? Some people say they won’t come out of the lodge for 3 days or so after hearing you walk on it is this true?
@osar2870 depending on your state laws, I'd wait 3-4 days. Maybe 2, if you're getting anxious. I like to leave mine sit about 4 days usually
@ sounds good thanks
Not very many areas in Montana that let you shoot spikes.
@@jamiewhealon3203 there's lots of areas if you're 14 with a youth tag. Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing your snaring success and Good luck on your next adventure my friend!
Could you show your snare set up when you put them under the ice. Would like to see your setup
@anthonymason2186 yes. I made a video a couple years ago on how I build my snare poles for beaver. I've changed it up only slightly over the past 6-8 years , but I'll look at making another video on constructing and employing beaver snares. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the beaver snaring clips. Hope to see some of your western trapping catches..
Cool 👍🏽
That rat race out east is gonna be the place to be this year..
I'm trying to avoid it.
Montana is the best
This is a awesome channel.. The North American Trapper channel along with this channel are putting out some great trapping videos...
thanks for the support!
You can't shoot spike bulls in montana! Has to be a browtined bull !
surely there's some exceptions... Thanks for watching
It’s hard to find good beaver. Getting it home is even harder.
Thanks for sharing this with us.. Please post more videos
What beautiful country. Congratulations to the young hunter!!
you can’t shoot spikes in montana?
Opening day elk are the best! I’ve got a handful of em, Nice to get done early, go hunt somethin else. Gotta love MT!
Yea!!
Other than you can shoot spikes in Montana broad time only hello dipshits
Well done, young man!
Lucky I didn’t get any thing this elk season in Montana
As a fellow person who hunts elk and deer in Montana it’s always a good time and it’s beautiful to be out there even on a non successful hunt it made good memories
Tagged out on the 1st day. Congratulations. Must be hunting private or you're not in the Bitterroot Valley. Wouldn't be enough room to take a shot because of all the people.
What did you get him with 😊
screw this these dumb people now days just road hunt they don’t know how to get out of the truck and actually try i’m tired of it.
What zone can u shoot spikes in mt 🤔. Or was it a draw?
Quite a few, more on the eastern side , white sulfur area too. just gotta check the regs
Just addressing folks who are watching this from elsewhere. Please stop invading our state. After the last three years of the invasion, we can't find a single elk on national forest. We have to thank you for running them onto private land where, unless you have ten thousand dollars laying around. they're safe.
Pretty sure Montana is branch antler only …. Am I wrong ?
@kodybracken518 mostly right, unless you're 14-years-old with a youth tag good for ANY elk.
That’s what happened to us. We got a big spike.
Where in montana i live there!!!!!
@@Football_prodzzz-u7m NW Central, kind of south by southeast. Near a mountain.
@tier1trapper747 i meant near what town lol
Where in the hell dod you find this guy me and my buddy uave been running all over montana and haven't even found a sign
Sounds like you guys shot this elk without knowing what it was???? You can shoot a spike in only a handful of units in MT. Hope this was legal

Spike in Montana? There’s maybe a handful of units where you can shoot a spike
And he didnt know it was a spike till after he shot it.....id not post this video. Easily identifiable mountain back there
@@montanamike7948 you do relize like half of the eastern, and southern regions its all bulls, not just browtine bulls right? Like outside helena, and in the missouri breaks.
Badass rifle
Pretty sure a spike bull is an illegal harvest in Montana.
Just incriminated himself in this video lol his dad said that was a spike and you can’t shoot spikes in MT!! Gotta have a 4 inch brow tine in MT. Unless youth can whack whatever they want 🤷 sweet kill either way!
@hyrumhopkin3717 yeah, he was 14 with a youth tag, good for ANY ELK in that region. Thanks for watching
MY AGE DID ME IN !😊
I so miss my Antelope sausage I had made for me ! It was ABSOLUTLY THE BEST !
Makes me happy to see the new generation out enjoying hunting with his dad!
Spikes are not legal.
@alanmurray3624 yes, they are legal in most regions if you are 14 with a youth tag.
That was a dry fire. He had already shot the elk and this shot was for pics. No thump when fired.
@@MegaMagaTrumpsavingAmerica 🤡 thanks for watching
Montana elk, spike, what district? Illegal in the NW part of the state
@@huntermccartney1781 legal in most regions with a youth tag. The shooter was 14
@ youth laws have definitely changed, in 2012 they made it to where only legal bulls could be taken by youth hunters opposed to the any sex or size law that it used to be
Got my first buck in Dillon this year.
Congrats!
Pretty sure you're not normally supposed to harvest spikes in Montana.
@@mountainsagegarden9214 you can in most areas if you are 14 with a youth tag
Since when can you shoot spike bulls in Montana
he's 14. General youth tag good for "ANY ELK" in most of the state. Thanks for watching!
a spike, ?????
