In my opinion 2001/2002 was the best time for LEGO trains with the release of the my own train sets and Santa Fe sets not to mention the rerelease of the Metroliner!

This was such a great era for LEGO trains. This open freight wagon would 30$ though if you adjust for inflation, which may be a tad steep. I really hope we get more stuff like this one day. Looking forward to you opening that sealed cargo train!

I run my layout on the 9V system, I really want this set and was not sure how well the tender option would be for the motor. Thank you for the demonstration!!! I am fairly certain though I will have to add weight to the tender to simulate the battery box so I don't have crazy wheel slippage.

Good job, buddy. The old MOT Steam Locomotives were incredibly awesome. In fact, I still have a pair of old identical catalogs from Christmas 2002 that shows these good old locomotives, as well as the ever famous Super Chief. Not sure how I got two identical catalogs, but still. Fun fact, I actually have been able to piece together via Bricklink a quartet of old MOT Steam Locomotives. Those locomotives in question would be Large Black with Tender, Small Green with Tender, Large Old Dark Grey Tank Locomotive, and Small Old Brown Tank Locomotive. Sadly, I've run out of motors, so only the Large Black with Tender Locomotive can run. However, I can confirm that my last motor went to something amazing, a in tact, (well, minus the tracks, minifigs, and station), copy of set 7740 that I got for Christmas. Said set has since been upgraded to 9V, alongside new 9V style wheels for both the Coach and Dining Car. Oh well, I gotta go, I need to finish some things and then it's off to Minecraft. Oh, and if you need some Narrow L-Gauge Locomotives then may I suggest Brickticks Engine Works over on Rebrickable. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!

I also think the newer one is the better option however the thing I dislike about it is that it doesn't have siderods, which is very dissapointing because not only does it look quite weird and empty without them but also because the old one does have them and look quite nice. It's a simple thing LEGO could've added to make an already nice looking train even better in my opinion.

If I had to buy 5 sets to make it better, I could have bought the collector edition set... Or, made the Locomotive longer. Now I'm going to have to look trough your channel in search of that big station you wanted to build!

I've used the rebrickable one with the L-motor, but the issue im having is the motor won't stay put and keeps pops up, then grinding the gears. I'm not sure why it keeps doing that, but it does.
