olives! cash crop for a small off grid farm
มุมมอง 1.6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The last month was olive harvest season, so no time to do anything else then climbing Into the old olive trees that are scattered all along the Portuguese landscape. There is opportunity laying there, allot of neglected land or people not interested in picking the olives on there land. So I am happy to do the job, pick the olives and turn them into top quality extra virgin olive oil, and earn a...

stone floor, friends and grape juice. off grid life
มุมมอง 3K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's a slow process, working for the first time with natural building materials, using hand tools only. But the result is all the more satisfying. Putting in my stone floor ha been a interesting learning process. I've seen people doing it before, and helped out a few times with flooring. The big difference Is that I'm using lime I stead of portland cement, needing to sort out the ratios while I...

Dont know where you are here, if your ever in the santiago da guarda (Ansiao) area, beer is on us🇵🇹

Hello our leaving brother ❤
Lovely animals 😘😘😘😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Now this is what I like to see 🤩🤩🤩
Your olives looked beautiful they are going to taste fantastic. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Seems to be close to GERES.
You urgently need a camera with better quality. Your videos are interesting, but the image quality is not favorable for your channel. Think about it... it's Christmas.
The camera is good in some parts of the video and bad in other parts. I guess is the humidity that blurs the lens. Maybe Portugal gets very humid during winter days. 🤔

I'm glad life is looking much better for you 🥰
You are so hard working ...i wish i could be your neighbour❤❤❤😅seriously i would love it...looks like you have learned the basics realy well.very good work.
Sil and Valerie is amazing and surround themselves with wonderful people <3
Lovely to see you back at the farm and filming. Beautiful olives for preserving. Come spring and Summer and you will be able to enjoy them at your meals

Hello my friend, great to see that you can get back to your place. I can imagine that you don't like to be working on someone else's place but need to. You don't seem as happy as you always are, hopefully that will change being home. Maybe you could do with a really good rest from hard work and the Xmas season is a good opportunity. I also hope that your girlfriend is going to be able to spend time there for Xmas. The buymeacoffee link isn't on your video but I went to the previous one and found it there. Take care and enjoy some downtime too. Hope that all is good. ❤️ from Cape Town.

Your animals, they know who is boss. You are a good master, one that can be shown to the world. A Master, a natural one.
3 more months brother, then i can finally visit you! Do you need something outta Beljam?

Always interesting to see how the process works in different parts of the mediterranean
1:58 I love how much the animals just adore being in your presence! They can be so naughty at times just like toddlers! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Puppies look like they want a backpack for carrying drinking water! What great companions they trust you 100%. Can’t wait to see what other video you have posted in the past! Love sounds of nature!
I'm glad you use the opportunity to make money 😊
all best from hyperborea
❤ i wonder what died that attracted so many vultures!
Hi Sil, loving how the quality of your video production keeps getting better, but i do miss seeing you smile in your videos. Maybe after you get paid for the oil 🎉 😂. Great to see Edna getting out, she needs the exercise and work. Cheers!
You have me thinking of sourdough bread and cheese and fresh olive oil... delicious
How many litres of oil did you make, in the end, from the two properties? Did you get paid for harvesting the other people’s land, or just paid in olives? 😁
Hey ! Haven't seen a video in a while ❤ Hope all is well !!! Too bad those dogs of yours can't protect them sheep!
Great work. Excellent harvest and end result for your gold olive oil. Congratulations
Have a wonderful week, greetings from Cape Town and enjoy the coffee ☕❤
There is nothing easy about harvesting olives, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to have access to any of those trees. For someone like yourself it's a great way of making some money to help your life out there. I hope that you have a really successful season and make enough to make a difference. I did wonder about your video, good to see you haven't had any problems, other than running after lambs.😜❤️
Yeah it's a hard job. But it's nothing you will have a good income. As a helper for others you can make more money. If you care about the trees all year long and do the harvest yourself, you can make 80ct /hour. If you drop all the good means and go for industrial farmed olives, then you can make a living from it. Just at the cost of mother nature 🙄 in addition you need to have a business and a lot of regularites to be allowed to sell oil in the EU. Imagine you want a bio or alt. certificate, which costs you a good thousand every year. It's a big hassle and easily not worth it. It's a friendship product.
Hello Sil, lots of olives I hope. The landscape around you with the rolling hills is really beautiful. You can really see it nicely from where you are harvesting. 👌
love misty mornings, so pretty
Beautiful olive oil 🫒😊
Nice job. 😊
how is it and when is the next episode coming🥸
Hey Kenny, I'm working on a video now, should be out by Sunday if everything goes according to the plan. Have been to busy with harvesting olives the last month 😅
Pura vida greetings from Brazil
Praying for you brother

Sself-sufficient? It is an amusing goal. I see iron, steel, wire, plastics, fabrics. Do you mine, weave, make glass and pottery? Who makes paper for you so that you knowledge is not word of mouth? Where do your tools come from? Nice looking shoes. When you have a bad crop year and you lose a complete species, can you get it back? My point is, individuals are reliant on others. Not even a village is typically self sufficient, all must trade for something.
Long way to go... Who knows, I might get my own iron out of the soil one day and forge some tools, make clothes out of plant fibers , or wool from my sheep,.. and j don't mind trading either... I'm never going to get there probably, which is fine, I just want to go that direction
@@leavingbabylonfamily Oh, I agree, we have a huge garden, 20 berry bushes in various stages, 14 fruit trees in various stages.Close to 600 canning jars in the house, most filled with food, some with herbs. A compost pile actively fermenting even in the cold. We also fish quite a bit and have panfish in the freezer. For now we have ruled out rabbits and chickens because we sometimes leave town for a week or more. We are influencing our neighbors and friends to garden so that we are not the only ones.I've bought fruit trees and berry bushes from our DNR nursery here in Iowa. $45 for 25 bare root saplings delivered. I've shared more than half and many of the give aways are still alive. I've also tilled gardens for some neighbors and family. But we don't have a "prepping group". We're not ready to lead or follow. We do have contacts for eggs and even goats. We have many other skills that we continue to practice. But we know we are so far from self sufficient.
Thanks!
Thank you very much! That's very sweet of you!
You keep on going my brotha. I'm still very much impressed and inspired of your determination and all of your accomplishments 👊👊👊
Do you know that most people watching your TH-cam channel wonder how you save so much money at your age! I could not do that with my £150K ! So please give us your trick! I cannot wait to move away from the UK! What worries me is that we are millions here dreaming of moving to the continent soon it will become too difficult ! I mean on a budget! well if you ve got 3 or 4 mililions well don't worry! but for us with lower capital. pretty hard! I so wish I could live on the continent! I am lost here in the UK I just hate it
Please HELP! I want to move
@@prichards8229 I'm not shure if your being sarcastic or being funny or serious? If I had 150k, I wouldn't be building a cabin for less then 500€ on land that's not mine. Check my older videos, I moved here owning nothing, and I still own nothing...
