Hi Sil, I can imagine that the rain saves you loads of time watering. The whole place will now start going green again and you get your cooling of spot back in the stream. Peas and tomatoes are my favourite pickings, one for me and one for the basket lol. Peas are so nice straight off the plants 🤤❤️

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the grain goes. You have the right climate and the soil looks amazing. I like about 50km outside of Cape Town and I'm surrounded by wheat growing farms. I have also once had the chance to get flour from a historic watermill and the bread we made was amazing. 👍
I didn't know that about pea's good info, thanks. So glad you got new sheet. What a view to bath, you can take flat stones and make steps to the river - don't know it that will work but would look kinda nice 🙃🙂 Good luck on the grain ... you are definitely one of a kind, see ya soon peace ✌
The peas won't work in all climates like that, here I can go that because we don't really get freezing cold days , just sometimes a slight frost in the early morning...and yeah I'm planning to do that making a stone floor and steps around the bathtub. But got so many projects lined up already 😅
I haven't checked on you in a while. I'm so happy to see you are doing well. It is exciting that you are getting into new things like growing your own grains. Your sheep count is growing. We just had two of our goats give birth to five babies the last few days, and another one will be birthing anytime. She looks like there will be multiples, also. I actually had to help pull the first baby on the first birth, never have done that, so it was scary and exciting. Growing up on the farm, I never wanted to get involved, but now at seventy seven I did. Shortly after, we helped with the second baby thinking she was done, and then, another one came out really easy. Then a couple of days another mother had two all by herself. We are staying busy. So thankful we had a good garden harvest and preserved lots of veggies. My husband is eighty two so I think farm work is keeping us going. Take care and many blessings! Janice from Arkansas USA
Hey Janice! 👋 Happy to hear from you again! Amazing to hear about your goats ! That's really nice! I've had to help loads of sheep in the past getting born. It's always a special experience.. amazing you 2 are still going strong on the farm! That's really inspirational! Thanks again!
Thanks Sil for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you ❤️ good work 👍😁 you looked really angry 😠 wail everything goes really well with you 😁 maybe try smiling a bit more than you will feel better 😀😊
Thank you! And yeah good question. I need to make a fox proof system. I already had chickens and turkeys before, but they went missing 1by1, tried ducklings to but only 1 night and lost all 10. So soon will try and make a fox proof enclosure
Hey Kenny, I'm working on a video now, should be out by Sunday if everything goes according to the plan. Have been to busy with harvesting olives the last month 😅
I would always grow maize/corn (not sweet corn) as a grain. It's much more drought resistant. Grows well in Africa. You need to grow a bunch together or they don't get pollinated the right way.
Yes good idea, the only problem here with that is, that it attracts wild boar go your garden. So far I haven't had any issues with them. But there are many around. So kind a Want to keep them away from my garden
@@leavingbabylonfamily makes sense. Native Americans plant a combination called the three sisters: maize, beans and squash (pumkin). The maize makes a stalk, the beans climb up on it and the big pumkin leaves are great ground cover underneath.
Maize isn't very suitable for the Mediterranean. Droughts are defined differently here. I tried multiple times in different locations and seasons and it never worked out properly.
@moonhunter9993 We've planted the three sisters a few times now and I love how well it works. This year we planted a couple of the three sisters with watermelon instead of pumpkin or squash. It works the same. ❤
Looks like a oystermushroom , but I don't know. Don't think oystermushroom grows on compost like that. Anyway it's over its prime already so either way I'm to late to eat it
Sself-sufficient? It is an amusing goal. I see iron, steel, wire, plastics, fabrics. Do you mine, weave, make glass and pottery? Who makes paper for you so that you knowledge is not word of mouth? Where do your tools come from? Nice looking shoes. When you have a bad crop year and you lose a complete species, can you get it back? My point is, individuals are reliant on others. Not even a village is typically self sufficient, all must trade for something.
Long way to go... Who knows, I might get my own iron out of the soil one day and forge some tools, make clothes out of plant fibers , or wool from my sheep,.. and j don't mind trading either... I'm never going to get there probably, which is fine, I just want to go that direction
@@leavingbabylonfamily Oh, I agree, we have a huge garden, 20 berry bushes in various stages, 14 fruit trees in various stages.Close to 600 canning jars in the house, most filled with food, some with herbs. A compost pile actively fermenting even in the cold. We also fish quite a bit and have panfish in the freezer. For now we have ruled out rabbits and chickens because we sometimes leave town for a week or more. We are influencing our neighbors and friends to garden so that we are not the only ones.I've bought fruit trees and berry bushes from our DNR nursery here in Iowa. $45 for 25 bare root saplings delivered. I've shared more than half and many of the give aways are still alive. I've also tilled gardens for some neighbors and family. But we don't have a "prepping group". We're not ready to lead or follow. We do have contacts for eggs and even goats. We have many other skills that we continue to practice. But we know we are so far from self sufficient.
Do you know that most people watching your TH-cam channel wonder how you save so much money at your age! I could not do that with my £150K ! So please give us your trick!
