Your images are second to none! Thanks for sharing them. I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your kind words!
Great images Rich sadly I haven't done a lot of imaging this year hopefully I cn get more into it again next year.
Thanks! Yeah sometimes life can get in the way, not to mention weather.
Beautiful work. I really like the transitions and blends between slides as well as the floating effect of the stars in contrast to the sky of the single image. Very delicate. Software used for this slideshow?
Thank you very much! I did it all in Davinci Resolve using transitions and key frames.
Wow , that's a lot of DSO's ! So I guess you're done now ? Seen everything ? Gonna take up fishing or basket weaving ? LOL . May Santa bring you more clear skies for 2025 . Merry Christmas Rich !
🤣 Deep Ocean Fishing and Basket Weaving does have a nice ring to it for a new TH-cam channel! Merry Xmas!
The amazing thing is that these photos are much better than photos taken with the 200" Hale Telescope on Mount Palomar in the 1950s and 1960s. I remember the first shot of the Horsehead Nebula I saw from that observatory. I was amazed. Whatever I am now, its orders of magnitude more moved.
It's amazing what you we see and do with today's tech!
for real
Thanks for sharing Rich - those are fantastic ! This not only helps me plan for DSO's that I have not tried yet (or even knew about!), but also helps me gauge my progress in this hobby's journey. I have learned a lot from you in this past year and your videos have improved my images, so thank you !
Glad they are helpful! I am always learning too! Thanks!
Now I know what to aspire to for my astro pics! The bar is hi. Thanks for all the tutorials, Im learning a lot.
Glad they're helpful, thanks! The bar is high, but trust me, I'm not the one who set it!
Two thumbs up!
Thanks!
Fantastic! Delighted with the results after following this. Excellent work
Great to hear! Thanks!
Simply stunning. Well done, Rich. 😎
Thank you!
Excellent collection! Thank you!
Thanks!
Great stuff 😍! The universe is a treasure chest 🤩!
Thanks! It sure is!
Excellent work! What a great year of awesome projects!
Thanks!
couldnt find my starmask file and it ruined the whole 2 hour process :(
It's in your working directory with the starless image. If it's not, then maybe you didn't have the create starmask option checked? Nothing is ruined. Your original stack is still in your working directory as well.
awesome 😍and thanks for your videos rich😇
Thanks and you're welcome!
Why is December the Mecca of stargazing…
In Florida I get a handful of clear, dark and cool nights. I don't think this is the favorite part of sky to view, but the weather is possibly great.
@@RockinRobbins13 that may be true but temperature is something to worry about as well..... this entire jhobby you wonder if you are able to even go outsde at all theres friggin clouds, transparency, windspeeds, seeing, smoke, too much to concern for...but yet want to get out to see some FRIGGIN stars.
so useful! thanks
Glad to hear it!
Awesome! I didn't know there were so many nebulas just waiting to be imaged.
Thanks!
And there are many, many more. Last night I got NGC2112, a little open cluster in Orion. Barnard's Loop streams above it and the portion I got with my Seestar (much smaller field of view than many of Rich's shots) showed a part that I couldn't find in any catalog with a density comparable with the California Nebula. A wider angle shot of that would be awesome. Space is littered with hundreds of similar finds. Loved your hidden galaxy. It earns its name and you really showed it off.
Thanks, beautiful work.
Many thanks!
Nice pics. Nice presentation🙂
Thanks!
Thanks
Welcome
Awesome pics in the collection !
Thanks!
Astounding and uplifting. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome, hope some day I may share a collection like yours
You will!
Outstanding! Now if only the clouds would clear out above my head....
Thanks! I hear ya!
Those aren't clouds, Mr Grumpy, that is terrestrial nebulosity!
Nice! You had a lot more clear skies than I did.
Thanks! Yeah it was a decent year
You definitely inspired me for a 2025 collection! I love this idea and with several pieces of new gear from Santa, I think I can do it!!
Awesome!
@ obviously not as good, but doesn’t mean I can’t try! Your work is amazing!
@@jor269 You're going to amaze yourself. Go forth and lose lots of sleep!
Well done. For sure you have got way more clear night than me. Lucky you are
Thanks!
Nicely done!
Thanks Doug!
Beautifiul - just .. beautiful !
Thank you!
Brill, thanks
Thanks!
Awesome
Thanks!
thanks for this video
Glad it was helpful!
Tried this with my Siril 1.2.5 version but it immediately closes the program every time. I have starnet installed. Any ideas what is happening here? Thanks.
Does Startnet work in Siril when you run it from the menu? If it does work, run Siril as shown in step 4 in the link (depends on which OS you're running), run the script, and when it crashes take a look at the log it generates to see if it shows any errors. siril.readthedocs.io/en/stable/Issues.html
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
thanx a lot
Welcome!
Would be great to see an OSC with multiple duo band filters, multiple night tutorial !! SII/OIII , Ha/OIII , Luminance.
It should be pretty much the same. Just select the layers that you need.
Another great how-to video. Would like to see a Ha, O3, S2 to Hubble palette with pixel math processing video in Siril. Thanks for all your videos.
Thanks! I'll have to see if I can get a hold of some SHO data in the future.
Great video! I didn't know about the 'load files with pattern' option. It saves a lot of time! Now, one question: The master frame and bias master frame should be captured with filters, right? In this case, I can't use the 'set biases and darks master for the whole project' option. Am I missing something?
Thanks! Your masters and biases are taken with the cap on, so the filters have no effect and they can be used regardless of the filter you imaged with.
I set up and tear down. Can a master dark flat be created? I use NINA to create a dedicated Flat with each section. I also take dark flats. I understand why you can't have a master Flat but can you have a master Dark Flat?. If you can do you just use the create master bias script? My understanding is you don't check Bias Subtract when using dark flats as Sirilic subtracts Dark Flats from Flats automatically. Thanks
Yes dark flats can be used in place of biases. So you should be able to use the bias script for those. However, your file will contain the word bias still. I don't use dark flats, so haven't tested, but I expect everything would still work.
Wow! Brilliant demo. Thanks a lot, just what I needed.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
Great video Rich, oh and Happy Xmas. Like you I shoot OSC. I do however have both a HaO3 and a S2O3 Narrowband filter. What I'm really struggling to do is combine the sessions from those two filters into a single image. I thought I might be able to do it with Sirilic as that supports both filter types. Nope! If I create a project with both S2O3 and HaO3 data its quite happy to create and load the files but it will not process. It does exactly nothing! Have you seen this before (its happy with either plus standard OSC). Best I've come up with so far is to us Sirilic to process the S2O3 data and use the individual fit files from the working directory to separate out the S2 and O2. I can use the standard Siril script to do the same for HaO3. Can then (attempt) to use pixelmath to combine all 4 fit files. Results however have been less than stella! Any ideas?
So I have to point out that SiriLic uses the seqextract_HaOIII command for not only HaOIII but also S2OIII. So simply extracting the red data regardless of the filter. There's no seqextract_S2OIII in Siril. When you say 'it will not process', & 'it does exactly nothing' do you mean it's not creating a composite image? I don't own a S2OIII filter, but I made copies of some HaOII data, to emulate a multi-night session. Two for HaOII & 2 for S2OII, just to see the behavior. I ended up with these files: final_HaO3_O3_HOO.fit final_M16_cHaO3_Ha.fit final_M16_cHaO3_O3.fit final_M16_cS2O3_O3.fit final_M16_cS2O3_S2.fit final_S2O3_O3_HOO.fit Merry Xmas!
@@DeepSpaceAstro Hey Rich thanks for the response. Yes I do mean exactly nothing!. Action-1 to build the directories works fine Action 2 to build and execute the scripts does nothing at all. You simply get a white screen, no log, no nothing. Certainly not a composite image. If I run just one side or the other they are fine and I would get the same files you do (in total) Its really weird! I'm using Sirilic 1.15.11 and Siril 1.2.4. I picked up one of the Askar ColorMagic C2 filters for less than $100 just to give it a go. I'm surprised by how little S2 it finds TBH.
Lets start with grabbing the latest version of SirilIC. It's currently 1.15.12. Probably wouldn't hurt to update Siril as well to 1.2.5. If you still have issues, jump over to my Discord server and post about the issue there. Then I can have you send screenshots if needed. discord.gg/eK9nEWy2Wf
@@DeepSpaceAstro Morning from the UK. It was a Sirilic 1.15.11 issue. I downloaded 1.15.12 and looked at the fix log and there is only one in there 'fix composition SHO'. Installed the new version and its now running fine (which is more than can be said for my subs). Thanks for the guidance - Simon
I don't agree. When images contain stretched stars and the nebula still look ok, well the nebula is not ok. I can tell you from experience where I have had nights of both stretched stars and good images a comparison of the nebula between the two reveals the nebula loses all fine details. There is no point fixing the stars if adding stretched nebula data makes your good nebula data worse. The stars are never my issue. For the stars I just take a hand full of the best and clearest shots and use them to make the star layer. I discard all nebula data from images with stretched stars. On any given night I lose 10%-80% of my images due to bad tracking or wind shake. Adding the nebula from these bad images has always made the final nebula in the image worse regardless of whether the stars have been fixed.
Now if the algorithm could fix the entire image based on the correction required by the stars then that would be another (awesome) thing.
Great video! Sirilic has been a life saver in the past for me. Siril should make a plan to absorb the functionality of Sirilic into itself. I know it won't be easy but it would be way more user friendly imo.
Thanks Naz, and I agree! Would be great to have this or something similar baked in. Maybe with the new version coming with support to run external python scripts, something like that may happen.
Crying every time he's told "no" needs to be corrected soon!
