I had a edge hd 8 a few years back and got a great deal on a used hyperstar. Starizona was supercool with doing some tweaks to the lens. Once i got it my scooe, i used it for a year without removing (except for some maintenance). Loved it! I'm saving my duckets now for a v4 for my edge hd 11. Cheers.
Agreed! Great device and great company!
Glad to see you obtained a Hyperstar. Can't wait to see more videos from you about it. I have a v4 with a C8 and love it. I live in Tucson about a 15 min drive from Starizona. Their staff is the best.
I bought my Edge HD rig from Starizona on consignment and it came with the HyperStar V3 and it has been a phenomenal piece of equipment. I live near Starizona and they are a fantastic group. Excellent video.
Thanks! It really is!
Absolutely beautiful results! Thanks for the video!
Thank you!
Nice video. I love those hyperstars. Starizona is a great company to deal with. Have both version 3 & 4 and love them both.
Best regards
Luis from NY
Thanks! I'm a big fan of this thing!
Great vid Rich, definitely has got my want on!
Cheers!
Doug
Thanks Doug!
Thank you for this video. Very informative
Glad it helped! Thanks!
Awesome results! Now I want a hyperstar too :)
Thanks! Get one! You won't be disappointed!
I have the Hyperstar version 4. I tried the shim spacing technique for collimation, but that never worked. I call Starizonia and they recommended starting flush . Collimated on a low magnitude star and now it is perfect.
Yep. I mentioned they recommend that in the video. Shimming just work out better for me.
WOW!! That's stunning!
It really is!
Congratulations! I just recently used my c8/hyperstar v3 for the first time and am thrilled with it. I did align my corrector plate first, and use the hyperstar flush.
I'm really wanting to leave the scope in this configuration now, so thinking about adding a small sensor small pixel camera such as the 715c sensor for some extra magnification and resolution come galaxy season next year.
Great video. I have a C6 "laying around" and I have been wanting to put a hyperstar on it. That might be a fun little rig.
Absolutely! For the 6" new, they're a lot less expensive. I think it's $500. Probably can find a used used too.
I appreicate all your videos. I have ver 4 on order for my 8 inch edge. I was a little confused on how I will use the push, pull screws and how each pair affects collimation.
If eg. I turn the pull screw too far do I then adjust the paired push screw to bring it back. What is the sequence? What filter did you use? Thanks again , Love all your Siril tutorials.
I don't know that there's a sequence. Just start with one and see which way it moves things. If it's not what you expected, turn it back and try the other.
Excellent.... 😊
Thanks!
I also bought a V3 second hand. Was a great investment.
100% agree! I love this thing!
I have a new to me Hyperstar v4 HD for my EdgeHD11 and have not yet had a chance to try it out with my ASI6200MC Pro. Waiting for some decent weather.
Oh man that would drive me crazy having to wait. Hoping you have better weather soon so you can play with the new toy!
Any way I can get the template you use to 3D print the cable management piece?
I just found one online to print. I don't know which one exactly I used. Just search for 'hyperstar loop' and you should find them.
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thank you!
You should sell the cable guides
It's not my design.
Actually the hyperstar doesn't reduce your scope from an f10 to an f2, removing the second f5 magnifying/correcting mirror does. SCT's start off as f2ish reflector scopes and then add a second f5 mirror that multiplies the magnification a LOT which increases the f stop accordingly, f2 x f5 = f10. While removing the second mirror sounds simple its not, a deep dish f2 reflector angles light at the camera sensor/filter which causes a LOT of distortion around the perimeter. This is why an f4 reflector needs a coma corrector and they are not normally built under f3. What the hyperstar does is similar to a coma corrector or a pair of glasses for a case of very bad eyesight. The SCT's second mirror and or lenses normally do the correction but we removed them. While the hyperstar might change the focal length a little its removing the f5 mirror that knocks off 8 stops and greatly reduces the focal length. So with hyperstar you get two scopes in one a short SCT scope with a huge focal length and an f2 reflector with the ability to correct its inherent bad eye sight. The only draw back over a reflector is you can't use it for direct viewing nor with a filter wheel. What I like about low f reflectors is they're short, however, the deeper the mirror the more expensive and harder to correct they become. Be nice to see consumer reflectors built to f2-3 that have a corresponding coma correctors.
Do you still focus with the focus knob when using the Hyperstar or?
You can, but I use an auto focuser.
I use an auto focuser.
That's one massive central obstruction! You now have a 5" scope effectively.
Thanks, I enjoyed this post. I also bought a used Hyperstar from a friend's estate. I bought all the bits and pieces to suit my camera from Starizona and whilst there was a small hiccup the recovery from their side was fantastic. Great considering that I live halfway across the world from them.
You don't seem to be using the Celestron dew ring controller. How are you powering and controlling it? Do you just apply 12v directly or do you have a means of controlling it manually or in software?
Thanks! The ring is controlled by the Pegasus Powerbox.
I have to set up and tear down my equipment every session. I would need to remove the Hyperstar so I could store my C8 in its storage bag. Would I have to check and adjust collimation every time I set up? Hard to get good deals like that on CN because they don’t stat up that long. Do you now use a guide scope on your Edge?
So far I haven't had to recollimate, and I tear down and setup each night as well. I've read where some say that you have to, but others say that's not true. So we'll see...
When you get the collimation like you like it, use a small screwdriver to tighten the screws down a little more than hand tight and it will hold very well. When I first got mine I noticed the screws would loosen themselves after a car ride to a dark sight. Now that I tighten them a little more they stay solid.
Thanks for that tip!
Great pics and video. I guess you can't use a filter wheel when using the hyperstar.
Thanks! I've read posts on Cloudy Nights where people with the 11", not the 8", used ZWO's mini filter wheel successfully.
How do you focus? What are you using?
I have ZWO's Electronic Auto Focuser configured in NINA. I manually used that to get rough focus, and then ran the Autofocus routine.
Thank you for the excellent video, which made me confused, why does everyone who owns a hyperstar make it a simple installation!!!??? Why don't you provide a full explanation for it,,, You make this part easy and simple when it is completely different,,, It is extremely difficult, I hope I don't find anyone who says to contact the responsible company!! I didn't hear from them anything but (measuring the hyperstar) Correct!!!! Oh my God,,, I didn't find the answer to the focus, I didn't find the answer to the tilt of the hyperstar,,, I think and I may be somewhat certain that F2 is the core of the problem and not the focus or the telescope and so on,,, The hyperstar needs a solution to more than one problem, who can solve it??
Thanks? Not sure if you're saying the video helped you, or if it confused you?
@@DeepSpaceAstro It did not cause confusion, but I did not find a solution to the distortion of the stars in Hyper Star???! I applied all the solutions!! But I have not yet reached perfection
hours of data with a hyperstar runnging at F2. That is a lot of data with the super low F value. I have a Gen 4. I bought it a few years ago. but i have been so sick my astrophotograph hobby has not gone anywhere. Hopefully I will finally get to use it soon. Depends on my condition. soon, I hope.
Sorry to hear that... Hope you get back on your feet soon and are able to put that HyperStar to good use!
Well I'm officially jealous
It's just crazy! You have to get one!
@@DeepSpaceAstro well first I need an SCT
