Stop Comparing yourself to others. The fact that you can do a chord and melody arrangement for jazz guitar and play over the changes, shows that you have arrived. Just build on it. Be you , good , bad or indifferent. Stay positive don’t let the news of the day distract you from playing. It’s true bad thoughts and feelings are not the truth.
Gut gemacht…ich habe meine seit 2001 und liebe und spiele sie oft……
I did the same. Now I gig daily with Frank, Dweezil, Vai, Prince, Jimi....it's only a matter of scares. If you jump on improvisation without thinking (better with the eyes closed), you can achieve speed & and incredible music lines.
right on!
I try to remember that thoughts and feelings are not facts. With regard to learning guitar, when I get frustrated because I don’t think I’m progressing, I don’t understand how to apply a theoretical concept, and I don’t have the speed, I soothe myself that the strings under my fingers feel so satisfying and soothing. Just playing what I can play and being able to make music at all is a beautiful thing. Playing any music at all, for me, is my healing. When I jam with my friends in our homes once a month, I am on a cloud of joy. That alone keeps me trying.
Well said Tina. Comparisons are toxic, and voices in your head can be too. I think it's valuable to remember that every time you make a sound on the instrument, it strengthens the connection to the ear, even if you're not feeling inspired. Eventually, that begins to pay off.
well said!
Sehr gutes Schlusswort, Tina ✌️🧘♂️🎸
Danke Leon! liebe Grüße!
Your posts are always thought provoking and helpful. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Consider the eastern approach of daoism. This frame of mind is extremely helpful in prace , happiness and a quiet mind.
coltrane concepts of sequencing is probably my favorite approach to improvisation combined with the concept of call and response the melody of autumn leaves is a prefect example of sequencing
I think you put far too much pressure onto yourself. That's when things become compulsive and freeze. I think you are a very good guitarist and teacher but there are many out there. Some are better ; some are worse. The mainpoint is that you keep enyoing what you do. Forget about the goal. The way is the goal. Just play and enjoy your guitar and dont get too involved in Jazz theory. I find all that theory very stifeling. I know all the scales. It took me 30 Years to forget them again. And that was a deliberate choice. Find your own voice. Sit back on the sofa and just play. Detune your guitar from time to time. There are no wrong notes in Jazz. There are only interesting scales. Just loosen up. I still think you should get yourself a small body archtop like the GB10. A guitar you can hug. You will be surprised what that Instrument brings out of you.
yes there is a psychology to being an artist like nothing is ever good enough for me the secret is creative practicing, get lost in your art i often start playing pop tunes because they are so easy spend time learning a new composition, play a new song for 3 hours move on to 2 chord looping and playing over that move on to 4 chord looping and play over that improvise over jam tracks, play it different every time practice your comping transcribe and extract licks from your favorite recordings play a swing tune like there will never be another you play a blues tune like afro blue play a ballad like young and foolish play a modal tune like so what focus on what you stumble on in the changes spend time trying to write something new, record it and write it down experiment with polytonal chords and triad pairs work out of books and videos about improvisation read transcriptions study ted greene and ralph towner study chopin and bach take a break and start over study everything but throw away anything that sounds like someone else find things that aren't like anything else find your own way to do it try to develop your own language find a way to be happy just being you, that unique style no one else has happiness is a decision strength has to come from within and not dependent from something external that person is inside you, no one is going to find that person for you your mind is like an attic you have to clear out the junk and clean it be very careful what you allow to remain you have to believe you can do it before you do it never underestimate the power of positive thinking combined with suggestion the words of a loving nurturing parent people need to hear it everyone is looking for it and all the money in the world cant buy it a teacher can be just as influential on a students life than a parent with this in mind you will find meaning, purpose, and fulfillment in life because all the money in the world cant buy it never underestimate what you have to give to this world, as I said there is a psychology to being an artist
First of all I’m a man , so my feelings and thoughts are governed by different circumstances, but for me to move forward on guitar, as you probably understand , do not compare with others Never doubt. And breaks are great 😊. Thank you Tina for your sharing ✨
I get stressed out too. Yes, keep playing but keep it all in perspective. Sometimes it's not easy to do.
another awesome video!!!

Great Video, Thankyou ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
You’re literally the coolest guitarist ever
Great lesson , thx a lot
thank you !
So many good things but wow, such a good idea to practice straight 8ths no articulation. Great way to boil it down to essentials, just focus on the notes and making lines.
thank you!
Is that Mr. Monk and Mr. Hall behind you?
yes
Very nice…and interestingly with c major scale adding the G# note means you can make what is an E min/min7 into an E dominant 7 arpeggio or chord, an A min maj7 arpeggio or chord, a C augmented chord a Dm7b5, an Fm6 (IV chord)
hey, richtig coole Video. Mega Input !
danke!! liebe Grüße!
This is amazing 🙏
Fantastic book. I found it life changing connecting the structure of common chords with those heard in more interesting and complicated harmony. Drop 2's are more familiar to folks these days perhaps, but regardless, that one opened doors for me and presumably many others. Cheers, D
This might be obvious to Tina, but the dissonant voicings serve as a template for finding other chord qualities through alteration. If one needs an actual major chord voicing in context, one might take that dissonant voicing and change the major seventh into a sixth (A on the lowest string), or replace the root with a ninth (D above the high root). Understanding the construction and getting the shapes under hand opens up a universe of possibilities with a few simple ingredients.
Excellent !
Many thanks!
I highly recommend books bout Barry Harris and even the TH-cam channel “things I’ve learned from Barry Harris”
Jimmy is an entertaining old curmudgeon but he passes a lot of dubious opinion off as fact.
I have the Ibanez JSM 10 and it is amazing! Scofield started playing AS200 at begining of his career, then, when got success, he created his own custom guitar based in old AS200. My favorite teacher, Chema Saiz, owns one of that old vintage As200. The sound is insane!
Very nice!
Your content is fantastic & informative but your channel has very few subscribers and views. I noticed that you regularly upload videos on TH-cam. I checked your channel and found some problems. Your videos are not SEO optimized, videos are not using powerful tags, channels are not properly optimized and Channel tags are not used. As a result, your video doesn't reach the audience.......

your vids are good but you maybe want to publish the full segments. clipping info is frustrating to some audiences. hollywood film editing, in my opinion, has no place in instruction videos. all or nothing. so if the info is restricted i vote nothing.
I'm confused about the way you're playing the Dm7 with the barre at the 5th fret. Isn't that a Dm11? My background is not in jazz, so maybe I am missing something.
hi! the bar is at the third fret 😅
@@tinajackelSorry, I mean the one at 0:32
@@HandPuppet_Official yes ! it is a Dm711 !
