We sure did haha! It was definitely a cracking find, and the situation was perfect with the sellers because they really were desperate to reclaim some money back... win win situation really. I've got mixed feelings about the fascia boards because some people are saying that it really gets too hot with that gap closed, because the heat rising inside here has nowhere to escape, so I'm not sure! I need to check out the gutters because there's some pooling happening, so either they're blocked or just not in very good shape, catching the rain water could be a cool idea, especially if something happens with the mains water unexpectedly! We've almost finished the rain water, the last bit of grouting for the floor tiles remaining, that'll all be shown in the future vids, but we're really happy with it. The kitchen for us is something that's going to wait, we've got the counter-top, sink and a single burner at the moment just to get by... bit by bit and we'll crack everything out, but for now, funds just aren't there haha! I've got a couple of companies based in the UK that operate online, that's our only source of income, I've always got Cambly English teaching as a backup, but the pay on that is terrible. Regine my wife is here every day with me, helping out with everything, cleaning and everything else, she's just not one for wanting to make an appearance in these videos... maybe in the future though! @2132waiola counter signature was just a term that I used to explain that both of our signatures are on all paperwork. However, the laws that apply to myself, as a Foreigner married to a Filipina, is that of the family code. Article 1 and 116 highlight the conjugal aspect of this, property owner by both parties through marriage. Hope that helps. An attorney/lawyer will help you through this, as I don't claim to be one of those

@@LifeAsWestwood maybe next time ask them to sand it down first before applying skimcoat this will save materials and time.. or maybe they just didn't know that they need to sand it down first? loose cement pebble messes up skimcoat application

We just paid for Globe to setup their cable for 500MBPS it cost 35k setup cause we are pretty remote, that includes 6 months WiFi too. After the 6 months, it'll cost 1.7k per month. We couldn't use Globe directly, a reseller and cable service had to do it cause of being so remote. I'm gonna do another vid on this

@john-yt1fm the ply ceiling was already there when we purchased it, it seems to be holding up so far as this house has been here years already lol. I probably will look at other options later down the line though because all the rivets are an eye-sore

@markhammer1902 there is a lot more to it than that though, and it is possible to own land/property. Our marriage is strong anyway, so I'm not worried about that. It's the same in the UK, you lose stuff in divorce, but I can't see divorce happening. If it ever happened, then I'd be more down about losing my marriage than some money on a house, to be honest 😆

@@LifeAsWestwood 15 tears ago that was more than a weeks wages for them, but still worth it. my wife usually goes by herself definitely the thing to do, but as ph you must have husbands name on papers so they know a foreigner is involved, but now I am known we get Philippine rates,, its all fun. i found if you give a little more you get better treatment. and the locals start to support you. oh we had to do that for the local priest to approve papers for marriage and also with the bishops permission in Bacolod to approve and give us the papers as I wasn't catholic , as Vicky wanted to get married in the catholic church.

@@LifeAsWestwood common practice, an example is that there is no divorce in the Philippines. if a Filipino is married to a foreigner and the divorce is from the other country the ph gov recognizes it, but if not the only way is to get an annulment and that is extremely expensive as the catholic church sets the fee but if you pay it you will get one despite how long you were married, the average Filipino cant afford it

@ItsIslandLife always get the lawyer/attorney to do those checks. They give through the title and everything directly with the current owner, you all have to gather in the office together. Well, at least that's what we did! Then the attorney checks through the owners, backdated for hundreds of years, checks for mortgages etc

@ItsIslandLife I did a series of Western Union bank transfers. Don't try to do too much at the same time, do like 200k, 100k, 100k. 50k, 50k etc over the course of a week or 2. Western Union can put blocks on you if you seem like you're doing dodgy transactions, so take as much time as you can to avoid that. I'll cover this in a future vid

Hey Mark, that depends on what you mean by sorting the water haha. We've contacted the water company and reconnected the line, this is for the mains water. I don't think we'll bother with our own elevated water tank setup, not at this location. We're planning on buying/building on 1 hectare of land in future, when money is there, and on that setup we'll do the whole sha-bang, elevated water tank, solar, agriculture, etc etc! There's just not enough space on this plot for those things, as we will be building a small 2nd home on this land for my Father to join us, this will be to the rear of the building. As for air-con, we're just buying one of the setups right now, this should be fitted tomorrow, well get the larger and 2nd unit next month! Insulation, hmm, I'm not sure what we need that for here in the Philippines, as the only insulation that I am aware of is to make the home hotter (being that I'm from UK), so we certainly wouldn't want to achieve that, haha!

We agreed with them to pay a higher day rate, and provide snacks/drinks, they provide their own dinner :) They are Muslim, so we didn't want to offend them in any way by accidentally giving the wrong food!

@@LifeAsWestwood I didn't see when I was there, but I expect there is Halal food, since some Filipinos' are muslim. Good times! I am looking forward to the build with envy.
