Making a Regency Men's Tailcoat - Part 1 | Dressing Mr Bridgerton - Part 5
I make a Bridgerton/Regency/Jane Austen era men's wool Tailcoat. I made a full Regency outfit for my husband to attend the Bridgeton Ball with me in May. I'm making the next piece in the outfit, the Tailcoat, using Laughing Moon pattern 121.
I used Ora Lin's pad stitching tutorial, see here: th-cam.com/video/wZ3NycLWaDI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8FFTQaMlFq6fHki4
I was able to finish the entire outfit in time for the Ball thankfully, so you get to enjoy watching me make it all! Part 6 will be making the rest of the tailcoat and a look at the final outfi, coming soon.

Just One criticism....the music 🎵🎶 is Far Far too loud...
@@time4tea595 i think this one was when I was still experimenting with sound levels 😆😅 I've definitely gotten the music a bit better since this one
I am working on this pattern right now as well! I am at the pad stitching of the lapels step. It’s a bit slow going.
@andreamagee2612 is pretty slow going, but so worth it! I found the instructions to be very detailed, but i suplimented with watching TH-cam to make sure I was doing it right 😆
Stunning! I wish i had the money or the sewing skills to wear that stuff! So beautiful
@@firefly.vae23 thank you so much! It can be an expensive hobby at times, but there are def ways to save money on supplies 😊

Beautiful 😍 amazing work!! Does anyone know what those renaissance arm cuffs are called? With the gaps wear you see the chemise underneath… I’ve always wondered how to make them but don’t know what term to search 🏰🎠❤
@theemilyanomaly thank you! I've always called them Italian Renaissance removable or detachable sleeves, I don't know what they were called otherwise. I did do a video on the process of making mine! th-cam.com/video/LuTURUY5jOc/w-d-xo.html
@ wonderful, thanks so much 😊
Where do you get these long pin from
I put a link to the supplies we used to make these in the description. The wire we used, we got off Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B094QSC385

A super adorable dress 💖
@@SugarChimera-22sg thank you! I really love how it turned out 💚
А почему спинку и перед вы кроите не сложив ткань попроам? 😮🤔
@@OlgaLulko-wv5vn if you're asking why I'm not folding my fabric in half to save cutting time by cutting through 2 layers, for this one i need to follow the chalk line as my stitch line, so I don't need to worry about the piece being even on all sides as I'll be using the chalk line instead.
@OlgaLulko-wv5vn I've been sewing since I was 8, I've not had professional training though. There are multiple ways to trace and cut a pattern. The method I'm using here is used by professionals, even in couture fashion houses. The fold and cut method it definitely a valid method and one I also use most frequently. The reason I use the flat method for this is that I've drafted the pattern and I wanted more space to pin and bring in as needed, but also have the whole thing traced out. The original pattern I made was folded and cut for symmetry.

My company Monah Li made the original dress in 1997. I designed it. The dress was sold at Fred Segal in Los Angeles in many colors because I made all dresses in white and then dyed them. The costume designer from Practical Magic bought the green dress at Fred Segal and exchanged the skirt part. I never even saw the movie until a few days ago because I’m suddenly asked to make this dress again now. You’re doing a very good job how you make your dress and yes! Your red beautiful hair really needs this green color.
@@monahli1597 that is so cool! I had thought that the costume designer just found the dress, I had no idea they edited it as well. And thank you!

@@kellysouter4381 that seems very possible, thick fabric like wool is used a lot, so I don't see why not

Really good trying to follow it. but going too fast if you are not an experienced sewer. Need to slow down the video at points to see it in more detail

I'm attending a Regency Ball soon, for which I have been sewing my first long gown. How far from the floor is recommended in order not to trip on the skirt? I've seen some at ankle length, but do you think that would appear too short?
@rehhaus5857 I would say at least an inch or two off the ground. Ankle length would work, but might look a tad short depending on which decade you're going for
I'm making a dress for the first time. And need some tips! The dress is similar to this pattern. But I need to know how to cut out the pattern pieces. And how to put them together.
@AskAlice24 awesome! What pattern are you using, does it have clear instructions? If so, definitely start there. If not, the way I cut and construct mine is a good place to start. Doubled fabric, cut out the correct size, sew up bodice, fit it, then attach the skirt part.
The pattern has about four styles. I'm attempting to do the short sleeve with long skirt. Thank you for your tips!
@AskAlice24 good luck!
Thank you, I will need it! 😅
Wow nice dog.

Amazing, your husband can jump right into a Regency Period drama with this outfit.
@Julia-rn1ib thank you! And yes, I've been really happy with it, he looks so good!
Use the sun as your light table. Sticky tape your pattern to a window facing the sun, then sticky tape the fabric in place over it, unless your confident you can hold it securely. With the sun behind the windows you should see the pattern through the fabric easily to trace the lines. Good stitching.

@vieve9292 bit rude to say about me, don't you think?
Your iron doesn’t seem to be doing a lot of work
@elizabethwatson71 the outer fabric is synthetic, plus the linen, they both iron easily.

Which type of linen are you using? Would you please let me know?

I use google translate for words like camicia.
Can you use plain paper to trace your hand and then trace it on the fabric?
@user-zj5cj1sk8h yes, that will work. If using paper, make sure it's thin enough to put pins through, or use weights when tracing.

Croeso ! Welcome to Wales! Heck, that's a big move/culture shock. I live near the Gower Peninsula. I'm a complete amateur costumer. I don't know if any costume events here in Wales tho🤔. I'm in awe of all that knitting! It takes me half a year to complete one item. Love the dogs...of course, a Welsh Corgi, and the gorgeous gown hanging up 😊
Thank you! It's def been a big move, I'm really enjoying it here. I've been able to find near by costume events. I'm a part of a few groups, and I do have to travel a bit, but not too bad really. Plus I've been to a few local conventions as well. I'm always on the lookout for more things to do! 🥰💚
