Gone
This afternoon, when I realized what had happened, I cried. I fought back the tears for a long time afterwards. I sat down and wrote this piece. Dear Janet, I don't know if you will ever read these words or hear this piece, but it doesn't matter. It's only for you and Yoshi.

Gefällt mir gut. 👏👏 Vor kurzem wurde ich über die Vorträge von Bernado Kastrup auf die Philosophie Schopenhauers und unter anderem auf seine Ansichten zur Metaphysik der Musik aufmerksam gemacht, wo er sagt : "Weil die Musik nicht, gleich allen andern Künsten, die Ideen, oder Stufen der Objektivation des Willens, sondern unmittelbar den Willen selbst darstellt; so ist hieraus auch erklärlich, daß sie auf den Willen, d.i. die Gefühle, Leidenschaften und Affekte des Hörers, unmittelbar einwirkt, so daß sie dieselben schnell erhöht, oder auch umstimmt." Die Musik kann aber auch diesen Willen ( bei Schopenhauer das Sein an sich ) in seinen Manifestationen des Mineralischen, Pflanzlichen oder auch primitiv Tierischen darstellen, hörbar machen. Da seh ich einen gewissen Bezug zu dieser Komposition ( auch deine Ameisenkomposition würde sich hier einreihen ) Liebe Grüße Stefan

I just woke up without his cheerful greetings his morning kisses, I just sat here in bathroom and cry. Stefan, it hurts so much, so painful 😭😭😭. Hach, Aufschlagidiophone kann man ja nie zu viele nehmen! 😄 Wunderbar, wunderbar! Zum einen, weil ich endlich mal einen Begriff verwenden kann, der auf der Liste der ohne Verwendungszweck gelernten Begriffe bislang sehr weit oben stand. 🤭 Und zum andern, weil du hier einen Soundteppich entworfen hast, der beim allerersten Reinhören in die ersten Sekunden wie wild gewebt wirkt, dann aber doch eine musikalische Dichte entwickelt und einen fast schon hypnotischen Sog entwickelt. Klasse, klasse, Stefan! I love it! 😍

I think music that succeeds in not expressing anything is antithetical to music...what separates sound or noise from music is perhaps intention? And the moment you intentionally make musical choices of what note follows another you start a process of expression. I suppose to come closer to the idea of not expressing anything I'm guessing you'd have to eliminate all repetition so that what comes after undermines what comes before...but even then it takes a will to undermine the processes of a motif. I think notes would have to be chosen randomly (then your intentions or descriptive powers would be eliminated, that is to say it should be completely without rigor). Imagine having a top hat full of notes and you just throw them up into the air and whatever lands is your piece. It might also help to eliminate tonality, because the compositions that I've heard that come closest to expressing nothing (at least to the point of incoherence) are certain serialist works. The notion of swarm behavior is an organizing principle that for me ends up being expressive of "something". I'm delighted to say you failed.
Thank you for your thoughts, John! However, this argument would require a precise definition of what expression is in the sense you mean. I used the term in a colloquial sense. No intention to express or achieve an emotion, no intention to make a statement, no intention to tell a story. What the listener perceives is something completely different. The same applies when an expression of the subconscious creeps in. That is all legitimate. Just like aleatoricism or serialism. For me, music should contain ideas, but not ideologies.

Wow, this is a magical & spectacular composition. Like a walk through an enchanted forest, with lots of interesting creatures awakening to the sound of your beautiful melodies. Nature and structures everywhere are an amazing inspiration. The fibonacci series found in nature always interest me a lot. It's basically the pi numbers. Congratulations ❤
